Hate the new loot rule, it is now impossible to gear up sub-classes without losing to someone who doesn't erven have the class they took the gear from levelled. It's extremely frustrating.
Having 'greed' as your only option when looting gear in a raid is mind-boggling. Firstly, only using greed supports lazy behaviour. Why should I join as a Tank when I can just join as a Dps and have the same chance of getting gear for my Tank as anyone else? Secondly, it is purely unfair. Why should a different class be able to get my class' gear, which is not even of the same class role? It is ridiculous. Lastly, people will be able to greed on gear which they are not even able to wear on their alternative jobs. What stops them from just greeding on every peice of loot that pops up? And you, who needed one of those pieces, get nothing?
There is a reason for having both 'need' and 'greed': you either need the piece of loot because it is an upgrade to your current equipment, or you quench your greed by getting loot to support sources outside of the current dungeon or raid.

Bring back the Need system.
Just make it so if an item drops an it's a lower ilvl than the one you have currently equipped or in inventory you can't need on it, only greed. You know, because you don't "need" it.
Yeah, it's a bit prone to abuse because you could put something on a retainer (if you want to be a jerk) but it's better than what you got now.
Because if this change was to help "gear up alts" there are PLENTY of ways to go about that.
- The new dungeons drop 345 gear. And the dungeons before that drop equivalent to creation tomes.
- Creation tomes and Mendacity tomes exist.
- Sigmascape is unlocked, easy 350
Checking back in after playing this week to voice my opinion that Greed Only is awful.
Greed only would be fine if people couldn't trade the items in for GC seals. Then, gear would have no use to those who already have it. as things are, people are just loting everything with no real checks anymore.
I can't think of a single scenario where greed only is fine. Never mind better than having need. No one asked for this change. SE wasted resources fixing a fictional problem and created real ones in the process.
There is a reason why mmorpgs have had need/greed/pass on loot for well over a decade - because it's easy to understand, it makes sense and it works.
Here hoping the emergency maintenance make it go away.
There are reasons why greed-only would work, but they apply to exactly the same reason why the lockout timer applies. If you are only going to desynth it, or turn it in for seals, then you shouldn't be able to "need it" at all.
Rather, either the ability to turn the items in for seals/desynth needs to be removed so players won't need on things they won't have any use for, or the developers need to roll out a smarter version of "need" that takes place at the end of the run.
Here's what I mean (and yes tokens would still be better, but I want less token junk inventory bloat overall)
Instead of rolling at every stage of the Alliance raid, hold off until after the final boss is defeated. This has the added bonus of players not getting distracted by the loot roll, and less likely chance of abandoning early.
Instead of individually rolling on each item, have the player rank the items they want with a 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,11,12, or "not important" or "pass". When every player has decided, or the timeout expires, the game rolls each item based on which items players actually want. So the items with highest ranking (Eg main body gear usually) are rolled for first, and whoever wins, is excluded from all other want rolls, or if their inventory is full, they're excluded. For items that players indicate not-important, the game will offer a second chance roll of simple greed-only to players with inventory space for it. For "don't want" or the game knows they have (Eg minions, gear already in inventory or glamored) then they will auto-pass.
The benefit here is that while this is more complicated it ensures that only players who actually want the item roll on it, and aren't just "greed"'ing everything, since if they roll on something they don't get to roll on anything else that players want. So it's in their best interests of selecting "not important" on items they are only going to desynth or risk only getting one item at all.
Post emergency maint, All Greed seems to persist :(
So I guess this is the only solution they fid to keep their game interesting ? Cause with only greed, you have less chance to get that item you need so you'll keep doing the raid again, and again, and again....and keep paying your sub again, and again, and again....
Since this new loot rule I didn't get any loot at all !
Did some Rabanastre to try get some Gear for glamour purposes... nothing ! On many occasions I saw the same person receive nearly every loot on the Raid !
This is much worse than I anticipated, on Ridorana it's not as bad since people have a weekly lock on the Raid but boy... the other Raids. People complaining in chat because of this loot rule is fairly common ( specially at the start of last week ).
Let's be honest, did it really hurt anyone if a person wanted a specific loot to play the Job who can "Need" on it ? If you don't play the Job why would you need the gear in the 1st place ?
I hope they change this rule or I'm doomed to never loot anything with my crappy dice rolls .... ;__;
Yet it seems to have the opposite reaction since people are already posting that they wont farm for glamour or gear that way and will just go into it once per week for the coin. So yeah...great job SE?

Dumbest idea I have seen in this game after 4 years playing it.
Running Ridorana for the 3rd time, back to back, my chest drops, and the tank gets it.
What motivation do I have to replay it?
They should, at least, give us an option to choose what class gear we can roll NEED, before enter a raid.
Adding more kindling to the fire, I think it's a horrible idea too and can't fathom what they were thinking. It's bad enough that RNG may not smile on you enough for whatever piece you need to drop, but now you have to roll against 7 other people for it every time?
Here's hoping they repeal this ridiculous BS in the next patch.

I'm only running it for the coin, minion and orchestration rolls... the gear isn't worth the frustration
when at least we could use our own loot rules in pre-formed alliance... this forced greed only is just stupid. and why in the 24 man raids?
but whatever... what's with dungeons? the dungeon gear is already useless on release, so we only get it for selling it for grand company seals anyway. with all greed there it would be more fair. lvling dungeons have a failsafe mechanic anyway with their guaranteed loot at the end. and below lvl 50 we can buy gear from the grand company.
what's with 8 man story raid? the need button is useless there anyway since everyone can roll need on the tokens. and ex primals? they too have a token system already in place to get the gear and for the mounts again everyone has the need button available. they could even remove the need button from savage raids, since you can set up your own loot rules there or you have a static.
but no, they removed the need button from the 24 man raids... the one content wich needed the need button the most...
Week 2 lost again on a gear that was an upgrade for me to someone on another class :/
I am 2/2 on drops for Samurai running on Warrior which is pretty nice and from what I have seen there has never been more then 2 people rolling a piece of loot and even in the old system you could potentially have up to 5 people rolling against you as dps if your unlucky so this system is a bit more fair for everyone, its more the older raids that suffer more because there is no restriction on rolling and it kind of removes it as an option for returning players to gear up.
tbh I think the past raids suffer most because of it. With Lighthouse at least there's a weekly lockout, so anyone that rolls you KNOW wants it, but the old ones people will just greed everything and call it a day lol. Sucks for people wanting the glams. I've been dying for the tank chest piece in Rabanastre and wasn't lucky enough when it was current, I'm already resigned to never getting it.

i asurem this has been said all ready and if it has just pay me no mind but i think the greed only should apply to past content not current just my option. hell truth be told the system was fine as is you didn't need a greed olny

I'm not a forum poster, but I just wanted to add to the pile that Greed Only is terrible. I don't understand why anyone thought this was a good idea. Please bring back Need.
It's also quite frustrating that there's been no official word on this after a week and people are clearly unhappy with the change.
Ensures I only run once per week and don't even bother with attempting to get gear. I swear, the QA and testing at SE is non-existent. I think FFXIV is a test server and patch x.y is production.
Yeah the fear of having to run it 100 times just makes me want to not run it much for something I actually want. It means people never run it throughout the week and just roll for the first thing they might like and not run it again.
I ran Rabanastre more because I kept trying to get specific gear. Now....the fear of rolling against 7 people makes me roll early in the week and never going into it again.
I kinda liked the idea that WoW adopted where you were rolling for a chance to get loot instead of rolling on loot that dropped. It was something that was implemented in MoP, iirc, where if you won, you got a piece of gear in accordance with the class you played.
Edit: In other words, there was no more loot dropping for classes no one wanted.
