I guess it's time

TBH I'm having a lot more fun with GW2 at the moment. The way it handles things in it's framework structure just make more sense to me. That said I find that most of my current interest in XIV atm is sadly forum bickering instead of actually playing XIV mainly because right now there is nothing for me that I want to do.

After GW1, GW2 is my third favorite MMO (right after Aion when it was paid).

I have at lest 5k hours in GW2, and around 4k in FFXIV, however a lot of FFXIV hours hve been spent doing nothing, just afk in Limsa lol.

GW1 was so much better than GW2, only thing better in GW2 is the combat, the world is extremely small compared to GW1, as is the FFXIV world when compared to GW2 world.

But GW2 is kinda dead now, a lot of people gave up during Living World and temporary content, and to a lot (just like me) the expansion just wasn't enough.

This is exactly what i do, but i'm afraid they only bother with the JP forums so our suggestions here might be worthless. :/

The current formula doesn't work well for some now, but what about newer players that join a year or 2 from now. Why buy ARR and HW when the next expansion is released? The way content is made irrelevant so quickly, why buy a game or expansions that has nothing to currently offer? FFXI still has players doing dynamis, salvage, nyzul isle and einherjar for relics and mythics. And how about the rewards for finishing the main story? A wind up minion. Lol. They missed the boat on jobs as well, there is no flexibility for creativity. Not to mention the gear swapping in 11 is great.

We have had the dose of this FFXIV A WoW Clone Reborn for almost 3 years now to the hardcore community that is a pure flop.
The casual community will continue to love this because it gives them the feel of always beeing able to catch up.

If i wanted to play WoW I would play WoW. FFXIV should have been something unique and continued to use elements from FFXI as it beeing the mothership of SE MMORPG era.

The poll from 4 years ago I think showed the majority of players wanting Horizontal content why SE & Yoshi P didnt listen I guess was mostly because "money > heart of a game?"

Eventually this game will kill itself if it continues this path. It will just be like any other MMORPG out there due to how its build up.

We can all be honest with ourselves here. This game WONT have a lifespan as long as FFXI if its just meant to adapt to a mainstream market of MMORPG jumpers who are only playing FFXIV because its whats "hot" right now.

The game itself does not provide enough content to keep you going that is just facts.

People should not be forced to level different jobs in order for having something to do because the game itself cannot provide enough content to do for their main job.

Capping a currency weekly to obtain gears that are useless so quick will not help anyone. It just teaches you that you can slack and always keep up.

It is a bigger chance of burning a player out than making it fun with how the path of this game is going right now.

Handing out gears from left to right to people just because they have a subscription is only adapting to the player and not forming the actual player after the game telling them if you dont actually devote a little time to acheive something you wont get it either.

Having a gamestyle that teaches gears can get old is just dumb its a hamsterwheel of repetative content with no satisfaction.

This is not a FFXI vs FFXIV convo but instead of using so much elements from everything but actual FFXI playstyle for so many years has showed one type of results maybe its time to go with FFXI type of gaming style from 4.0 and onwards?

Horizontal progression wont kill anyone it will actually make levels and gears feel rewarding instead of a handout.

Same with Sargatanas as well. There is simply nothing to do end game wise :( Wish they'd actually listen to us.. I miss FFXIV, but if I log in I just kinda stand there and chat because there is nothing for me to do and no content has longevity. /sadness

yeap! both are legacy heh...I've seen others post their servers housing menus with 0 houses bought lol...

I dunno about the forums representing a small portion of the game. Yea its true that not everyone posts here, but I can tell you for damn sure there is a TON of people and players who are unhappy with the end game right now in the same ways mentioned in this thread. I've come across so many strangers who bring it up themselves, and low and behold..we have something in common lol.

Whenever I debate with people in my FC who are actually "Final Fantasy" fans we give the game so much venom like you wouldn't believe ha ha. Occasionally we would always go off on what the Dark Knight was turned into. Or what we saw as the splicing of the Black Mage's spell list.

I miss those like-minded discussions. We do love to play this game but we also judge it as not only longtime FF fans but also take into account FF's roots from DnD. That's Dungeons and Dragons.

But the activity on Diabolos is pretty much the same. Very rare do you see over 10 parties looking to do stuff. I would like to see over 20 going on. I think servers/rooms on MH3U and MH4U were more active.

Fabrico, Iromi, Beetle, Magius: That is usually the result when you have almost the entire game on a very easy difficulty.

Casuals should not always be compared with the casuals that seem to be raging teenager wow players. It seems that the majority of FFXIV playerbase is still adults because of the envoirment. To me this is a good way and is still a chance of hope.

A party finder would not be so empty if people havent done all content. Its not even about Rushing anything do stuff daily and eventually you will run out of things to do due to how the core of the game actually is.

I have no idea when a change is going to happen or if its going to happen. I'm playing FFXIV because of my friends and that its a final fantasy envoirment I'm not playing this because its some sort of amazing game.

Like you guys I seem to spend most of my time chatting or afking because I've run out of things to do aside from thinking bashing your head to a wall for nidhogg extreme or savage for items that are useless by november is a good formula of gaming?

Let's not forget how the relic continues to be an unrewarding disaster that will just be a disappointment to everyone who spent countless runs for the HW story dungeon farming wich will be nerfed.

The feeling of stuff beeing nerfed or echo beeing presented will always be something on the back mind of players. It causes lazyness. Remember when I said you can always catch up? It is a good thing that you can always catch up but alot of things should still remain sacred and untouched and be hard to obtain so it makes your time invested be worthwhile.

Whats the point of doing all these HW dungeon runs for the relic when a few weeks or months later the cost ont he items will just be nerfed? It only teaches that player one who doesnt have it can have the same item as player two eventually and actually if player one invests as much time as player two he would have the same stuff for putting less effort in.

How is that gaming mentality fair to the current players? That part I do not know. How can the customer who loves the brand/product the most be the one that continues getting the short end of the stick?

The satisfaction of beeing "first" does not give anything. Surely some sort of competition would do this game good wouldn't it?

I have not done savage at all but guess what? I'm ok with that. I'm ok with not beeing good enough to do certain things BUT I know the content is there for me waiting should I want to give it a try thats the part players don't get.

Its always crying for a nerf when some things should just remain untouched.

I would not be surprised if these Experience Points Potions from the cash shop will be put in motion.

I would not be surprised if 4.0 Expansions offers a new player instant level 60.

Only way we can stop this is if we unite speak up and say this is not what we want out of FFXIV.

Problem is though. They only gave JP speakers the fax machine if you will.

I did the HW relic for DRK but to me....+1 Weapon damage and on average a +6 to your selected stats and main stats from the Hyper weapon IMO is not worth a 1-2 month grindfest investment. Judging from the 2.0 relic it eventually became obsolete and had no unique weapon ability to set it apart from any other weapon. So a "impressive looking weapon but nothing more". Especially when in later patchs they essentially hand you a weapon equally as powerful at a much cheaper cost of investment.

Which at this point I have to wonder if any new steps are added if I should even bother.

As for Savage I won't do it. Harder versions of fights you already have done with essential "do this much damage within this time limit" parses just isn't my thing.

I'll check out Deep Dungeon...but right now I'm just going to enjoy this GW2 ride I've been having. A bunch of design decisions just say "yes" to me. It's gonna be hard to come back to XIV after seeing how GW2 handles level syncing. One allows you to use all your skills....anywhere. And another is oh no them skills too hard to balance lock em out pronto.

I guess the one thing XIV does have over GW2 is an actual Aggro management system.

I do feel the lack of party finding groups is mostly because duty finder is pretty much the bonafide buy out option where you don't really need to form actual parties and communicate. It's more "hope for the best".

I disagree. I find most content unrewarding and mostly rides it's way on smoke, mirrors, and spectacle. That said the most rewarding thing to come out of this topic is knowing that there are those who share my sentiments. "Preaching to the choir" I suppose.

Is it really worth paying a monthly fee for not doing much? when the game PROVIDES you with a lot of content. Because it is clear people only do bits and bats and don't actually bother with the rest cause they find it boring and not for their liking. Or you could see it openly that the game is not perfect and not everything SE feeds you is accepted. White knighting a thread won't solve any problems. This thread brings positivity and is shedding light on certain things that seems to be a problem.
Players (SE customers) are discussing and debating here because they want to contribute and voice their opinion to help the game improve on what they think is wrong.
If the game was so perfect as you claim it to be these discussions would not be here.
If you can't see that everyone here typing actually cares about the game and love SE and the FF franchise by debating these things then I don't know what to say.
The random casual is currently running out of content because there is not enough content provided.
You seem to think that you should intentionally start levling other jobs in this game because that counts as something to do? It shouldnt, the game should keep you occupied to continue playing your current job and never give you the feeling of now you have nothing to do so it bores you out.
Weekly capps prevents you from playing the game as much as you like because you cant even persue your goal without feeling limited.
Maps are currently empty with not world content cause we spend our life in duty finder.
If even the casual joe is starting to feel burned out with nothing to do then you are the one refusing to see the problem.
Current state of the game does burn you out with a feeling of whatever you acheive is useless eventually killing the actual feeling of making levels items and progress feeling rewarding.
Again people writing in this thread care about SE and the FFXIV product or else they wouldnt be here and leave without saying a word.

Not gonna jump too much into the debate here, but I do think that if you play this game solely for power acquisition/gear progression it's pretty understandable that you'd get burned out quickly. Who knows if the developers will change it or not, but FFXIV so far just isn't designed as a "gear grinder" type of game.

I have read 60% of this thread waiting for constructive posts suggesting improvements with a in-depth analysis how to implement it so far all I found is "We need to make X to make FFXIV great again!".
Before suggesting something put youself in the place of a game director/designer/developer and etc... "How would I implement it?", "How long would it take?", "How hard it is to do it?", "Would it affect previous expansions?"...

If I resume what I saw, is just a bunch of "Hey! You need to remove cap and create more stuff with higher quality every 3 months while totally rewriting your game mechanics!".

If I wanted to play a gear grinder I would have played a gear grinder. Luckily FFXIV is more than that.

I have 2 days left on my subscription I believe, though I haven't logged in for a while. That said I do not plan on returning for a long time. I wanted to help this game as I am 99% sure it's on the decline, but if some of you believe that the majority think the game is fine (the declining majority) then so be it.

I don't know how you expect subscribers of this game to act and think like a game developer when developing a game has different departments, especially those that have little knowledge of how development actually works.

Is it wrong for players to aspire to want their product made better or is it about making the dev's jobs easier at the expense of veteran players moving on after seeing how hollow the MMO turns out to be because of several imposed restrictions?

The problem I see mostly with people in here is they think some revamp is going to happen within a patch of expansion when they have no idea how development works or what resources they have to pull out to make the entire game's fundamentals change. Nor do they take in the fact despite even if they have a good idea or something that may help, it isn't simply the snap of a finger. Nor do they take into fact that what they do is controversial at best and has a potential to lose a ton a subs because the game changes so drastic. They think what is best for them, not what is good for the overall balance of the game.

Ideas that bring QoL improvements to the current systems or new game concepts that can work in the context of the game's setup. I am 100% for. But things that make absolutely no sense unless you revamp the game again is just unrealistic and asinine unless the developers can think of a way to work it in, even then it gets changed to meet the backbone of FFXIV's structure.

People in here are going to complain till the game becomes FFXI-2. Even then they will still complain going "its not the same!" or "why copying FFXI so much? Be your own thing, 14!", because you can't make people happy no matter what. They are even going to come after me for making this with the usual arguments that make no sense, usually leading to "It will work because I say it will work." without giving any real argument or data showing why it works. When most in here including myself point out the history of said systems not working or balancing properly. They will swear it works because "they say so."

Because not everyone actually thought xi was better? I absolutely hated the combat system, the pace and the fact that everything in the game is obfuscated. I'm not alone in that, I even know people that played it for years that feel the same way.

By all accounts XI and XIV appeal to different audiences.
I personally had no interest in XI since from what I read it sounded tedious and that it took ages to make any progress.

I'd rather that XIV stay the way it is with quick and frequent upgrades. I certainly wouldn't be happy with using the same equipment for years on end or spending months farming for one piece.

im sick of doing the same runs over and over with different backdrops, that to me, is tedious.

I'm also not a fan of one hit kos, but I guess repetitive death and judgemental parties is what all the kids are into these days.

But since we are at the blanket generalizations stage of this thread, let me say that these are not recent complaints, they've just been gettting louder and louder as the game boils down into the same thing patch after patch and people in both the hardcore and casual camps have noticed it. They cannot all be FFXI fans.

This is a rather melodramatic response.

Calling this whole situation a betrayal is seriously over the top / blown out of proportion.

The fact they even remade the game from the ground up in the first place when they could have just closed up shop and left it as a dead project is hardly a betrayal.

As for the current state of the game, there's plenty of work that needs to be done for sure but the way people are asking for it or just the way you're expecting it all to be done right now is just silly.

The only way to really expect any major changes now is to await 4.0, you might say its not a solution but a lot of the game changing solutions people are clamouring for, they can't just squeeze that in during the pre-expansion patch cycle.

Redesigning the entire game again before a major expansion is highly unlikely and downright insane to even remotely ask for.

He's online now so it looks as though he has decided to stay. :)

Honestly, XI wasn't that great unless you were playing on pc and many people can probably conclude why without me explaining. It does have a degree of depth that this game and many MMORPGs on the market do not have, such as the merit and job point system, persistent rewards (relics/mythics/etc), and flexible classes that weren't neatly packed into a little category. There are several ways to improve the game slowly without altering content much but the excuses given by the 'devs' (I use it that way since everything is translated anyway so no one can really say if they are understanding everything or responding accurately or not) is a bit amateurish. Prime example is set bonuses for gear that they did for a while with free company gear. They could easily make it so that having x number of a set equipped gives a bonus, but their excuses have been "balancing issues" etc.


These threads honestly wont get any changes going, especially if many of the people posting are 'adults' then it should be known that companies dont respond to complaints/threats/suggestions etc but actual money loss. Its already been hypothiesized that the JP population is about twice the size of the NA/EU population. Assuming that is true, unless they complain chances are nothing will happen. Plus its easier for devs to give and get accurate feed back since its their native tongue and not having to wait on translators like they have to do for other regions. People wanting the game to drastically change into something like XI have a better chance or repopulating that game versus trying to change this one.

So here's my issue with this senseless arguing.

Why not just allow this to be a brainstorming thread, instead of bickering back and forth creating bad analogies and throwing around fancy words while riding a high horse. If you don't think there's anything wrong with the game, then don't be on this thread, simple as that, your arguments will be ignored by most people in here as they feel differently. Agree to disagree.

Suggest your ideas whether logical or illogical. Similar to how IDEAS WORK, If you throw out enough ideas eventually one will catch your eye and you'll think, "yeah, yeah that will work, let's try working with that".

So let's stop white knighting and arguing against ideas being posted and instead focus on actual thought and progress, because to be honest there was a period on this thread where I was happy with what I was seeing. Enough of this "you're wrong" => "No you're wrong " bull.

If you very specifically want to disagree then I would like a few things followed with the disagreement; Source of proof, Date, and the Game.
If you wish to make an alternative point, then do so instead of being condescending of another fellow player.

Now I should state where I lie in this debate. I'm on the side of adding things like set bonuses, tweaking classes to reduce homogenization, revamping diadem to be more alive and fun etc etc... I also believe that the rewards in this game aren't sufficient for many and that if the rewards are going to stay the same then the content should be more varied and appealing to longtime players. It's not healthy for a game to rely solely on newcomers or newer players while alienating its veterans. That's a good way to get little to no recommendations and little to no praise.

P.S. If you couldn't tell by my change of tone I'm annoyed by people acting like they're better than others and that their opinions are more important (applies to all sides of this). Let bygones be bygones.

Personally I'd Love to see content with greater longevity. Honestly you only really need to do each piece of content once. The freshness of each patch (imo) last for about a week (week and a half tops) and then just turns into a grind fest to farm tombs or weekly gear pieces for the next three months. It would be nice if Dungeons had more versatility then just the same basic track, same mobs, same bosses. Same with open world. Dailies aside, I really just find my self just running around mindlessly. I like exploration, I love secret caves, dungeons and buildings, temples ( some of which warrants caution before entering ) Not every thing has to be Instanced! :(

Also implement more then just mechanic heavy content like savage. Seems to be the only real thing that keeps small groups playing longer. It feels like more of a chore than an actual experience one can enjoy.

They didn't remake the game for free, they took their fan's money to do it. The fans they then chose to ignore in beta and beyound in favour of chasing Wow's subscriber base. Which even after all this they have failed to do. I think alot of us would be happy with just having an acknowledgement of the issues and a nod that they will work on fixing those issues as they move forward.

I'm not trying to say that my opinion is better or that yours is wrong.
I'm simply providing my own feedback for the game.
Suggestions are all well and good but the developers need to know both the amount of support and the amount of opposition for new ideas and changes to know if they're worth trying to implement.
