Post Your Healing Horror Stories.

Well, I only recently started playing this game, but still felt like sharing this.
I only unlocked scholar yesterday, finally becoming a healer in this game (I always play healer in MMOs, so I was really looking forward to this!) and while I was forced to heal once when I was an arcanist (Conjurer thought she was a DD, fun times), I always had really great parties.
I honestly didn't expect much trouble...but the trouble started when I was the healer, of course. Wanting to start with an easy instance, I queued up for Sastasha...
My tank refused to use flash, like the entire run. So me, the pugilist and the archer were all off-tanking the entire thing while the tank just focused one mob at a time...not even trying to pull the mobs off of us.
We somehow made it, but like, it certainly was one hell of an experience for my first healing job >.>

When I first unlocked SCH, I had a similar experience. For what it's worth, if you get whm to lvl 34 you can sub stoneskin for totorak and beyond, you can have it as your first subskill for satasha and low level dungeons and it might be better than protect. Otherwise, yeah, main healing below 30 can be annoying.

I hate to break it to you but this always seems to happen in the low level duty roulettes I run on exclusively on my SCH. I always encourage them to go nuts (just not everybody off to different directions at the same time) because Eos can heal through the entire dungeon by herself 95% of the time. Perhaps it's less of a struggle for me because of my uber high level gear getting synch'd down, but I've always just accepted that most lower level roulette tanks are still learning and therefore ..


Can't tank worth sh---. lol 99% of the low roulettes I wind up in are like this. Even the entry level gear tanks in higher dungeons have a bit of an issue holding aggro from entry level gear blm's. It's good healer training to use for later raids though. SCH's need this kind of experience specifically because we specialize in damage mitigation.

Eos is definitely a badass when it comes to low level healing. I've seen Eos solo heal up to Brayflox when I was playing with my SCH friends. Granted, my tank actually kept aggro.

I was running Stone Vigil for the second time.

The tank and I were at the opposite ends of a long corridor. The tank pulls everything all the way back to me. Not surprisingly, they aggro on me and kill me.

Has this happened to anyone else? I've had some tanks pull directly in to the healer. Is this a common thing to do?

Unless specified, no. We usually run behind the tank. If you catch aggro though, stand close enough to him so he can take it off you sooner than later.

idiot tanks pulling whole floors in haukke manor hard without any defensive cooldowns or enmity abilities ... then the douche complains when people die (due to pulling aggro on him ... emergency heal maybe ? ). Then he does it again and blames my lack of gear (i80) when I just blasted 6 charges of lustrate on his face and he still died ... yeahhhh ... if you could reroll a dps and stfu, that would be nice.

Me playing on Titan story mode due to the low level roulette. At the first geocrush, our bard ran all the way against the wall, apperently hoping to fall off. He didn't fell off yet though and ran back in to the platform, where i explained to him he should stay on the edge on the inside of the circle. He didn't say anything and next geocrush he ran once again to the most outer piece of land. This time the bard fell off the platform though and i thought he didn't spoke english. But then suddenly he started raging and flaming at me for why i didn't raise him. But if that was it.. Tank and other DPS started flaming at me aswell why i didn't raise the bard. They probably didn't knew you cant raise anyone who fell off the platform..

Not really a horror story.

In WP the tank I was with didn't really hold the hate on groups of mobs. He'd overpower like once to get the attention of them at the start, most likely since we had a blm and smn (along with me, WHM) who could do some decent AoE. Ended up that I couldn't really help DPS with holy much since I was keeping the DPS up with heals the entire run. Not that it mattered, WP is easy and everyone was at least ilvl70+, just not used to seeing that happen lol (that said, was my first WP run in over a month).

(Part of this actually rests on the other White Mage not paying attention to the HP of fellow party members.)

Castrum Roulette - first I get DC'd during the Vanguard fight, PS3 takes forever to load back up. (Ugh.)

Finally get back to the party, realize everyone except myself and the MT are fresh 50s. MT had AF+1 gear and I had DL gear. Get targeted by adds, MT tunnel visions and doesn't pull adds off, OT ignores adds as well. Other WHM is not paying attention to the HP of anyone but the MT, so I end up dying in the midst of attempting to cast Cure II on myself.

Rest of the run is incident free until the second half of the Livia fight. OT is attempting to pull all the adds and the Colossi, but cannot hold aggro (I'm only using Cure at this point, attempting to keep aggro off myself as long as possible without dying.) OT regains aggro after I waste Benediction to keep myself from dying (again, the other WHM is not paying attention to anyone but the MT.) I go back to healing the party and almost immediately pull aggro off the OT AGAIN, take two hits from the Colossi and die while trying to heal myself.

This is the *only* run of Castrum where I have ever died.

I'm going to place this as "I'm a bad/lazy healer" story, rather than a horror story. Ooh...Ifrit EX healer swapping...you have to run into the middle to AoE heal anyway (esp as a SCH), so swapping isn't even anything extra for you.

And...4 melee in Titan EX is much, much better than 4 ranged.

Healed Extreme Ifrit today. We didn't win. Other healer ran in with Searing wind too early killed everyone. Then mind you asked me to next to keep succor up on everyone because clearly I'm not doing my job right. I was kicked from party - wut?

Luckily I reformed later and won but still wut?

I think it's safe to assume that all my ifrit ex tries have been horror stories. Still haven't won on my whm, I've gotten it plenty of times on my bard easy, but man healing that fight is hard D:

Pharos Sirius? No problem! The fight's wwaaaaaaaayyy too easy. Let's EAT all the dashes! Give adds to the healer! Expect her to heal through the stun! Then tell her she's an obvious troll because of her gear!


Umm .. no. Reality check: even with OP gear, I can't heal stupid. So you can go %$#@ yourself, stupid dragoon. Clearly you don't have to have a healer to know how to play one and of course, you have the hardest job in this bloody dungeon cuz how hard can it be to SIT THERE AND SPAM A BUTTON SO THAT EVERYBODYS HP IS 100%??? (sarcasm)



Ohh that feels so much better now. :(

For those curious, I am a end game WHM/SCH who has multiple twintania wins but never bothered to do any dungeons I didn't have to do - namely, Pharos Sirius, Thornmarch, Minstrel's Ballad: The Ultima and Copperbell (HM).

Recently, I've decided to go back to do the little stuff that I had skipped before the patch. Ultima + thornmarch were a breeze till I got to Pharos.

Haha, I'll NEVER forget this one. I wish I streamed so I had this on video!! In fact I might start streaming in case another incident like this happens.
Ok, I have to skip ahead to right before the last boss, in the room with all the different mobs in the corners since SE has a limit on this. Almost wiped there because the tank doesn't know how to pull right. So by this point me and my hubby are on the verge of laughing. Once we clear the room the pally starts casting cure on my hubby, I cracked up...I think it was this whole experience, I just started laughing.
So last boss...the tank is running around in a circle the whole time like doing this will make him dodge the bosses moves or something. The poor DRG has to keep moving to stay behind the boss. I busted out laughing, I was laughing so hard I was crying...I had to control myself or we would have died.
How do you get to that level as a tank? That was absolutly horrible

Other stories: DF Ultima HM, pretty much all the DPS died to Ifrit's charge. Other WHM didn't have SC, I had already used it on one of the other DPS...it started to become apparent we weren't going to win that round so I stopped healing and we wiped. At the end the tank blames me and the other WHM for not SC raising people. Other WHM says they don't have it, and he says he doesn't think I have it either...
I informed him of the issue, told them to have fun, and left.
Another Ultima HM, Tank gets hit by Garuda...we all get knocked back, me and SCH can't make it to him in time and he dies. Afterwards the SCH goes "were u healing?"

While I understand your frustration, in those levels it can actually be fun. Some of my funniest / best dungeons low level were stuff like:

Cleared Totorak with 3 DDs ; also cleared with 2 SMN only
Halatali as: BLM, DRG, WHM (sleep is however absolutely mandatory^^)
Hauke as: PLD, SMN, MNK

All of these groups were actually levelling (tho I always knew one of my mates) and not overgeared, and every one of those runs took like 60 minutes (besides the 2x SMN only run, which took actual 83 minutes), but we talked a lot, had tons of fun, and had a way of gameplay you normally don't get. Like, really, who sleeps mobs? :P (and if you do, chances are they will get woken in an instant^^)

My horror story...
Me, a new healer, CNJ level 15, ques up first real dungeon Satasha, it was disastrous!
Tank died twice, party wipes once and it was all due to my inexperience!
It is a very hard road as a new healer to grasp the nuance of being a good healer and being a great healer!

A few levels later and making sure that I read (reddit/google) hints and tips and understand my class/job that I am becoming a better healer.

Running Titan HM on my scholar trying to unlock the relic...

Things go bad AFTER the heart phase, four players dirt napping including a paladin tank who is shouting in chat "JUST JUMP OFF THE EDGE AND GIVE UP WE CAN'T MAKE IT". This paladin had previously said he could raise people people so I swiftcast and rez him. He proceeds to... jump off the edge. I get the others up and...

Doing a T5 practice party last night. The other healer (a SCH) tells me just focus on the OT holding the adds in phase 1 and we go in. Both tanks are getting mashed, but luckily most of the DPS are avoiding damage. I'm having to chain-cast Cure 2 on both of them to keep them alive; their HP staying about 2/3. Then I inevitably pull from the OT (again, cast heals or they die so no choice) and quickly dump aggro with shroud. Shortly after a Death Sentence+plummet puts the MT down and we wipe.

Here's the fun part, I'm booted for being a bad healer and not knowing my role. This is based off the fact (I asked) that I hadn't been casting Regen. I didn't cast it because every cast needed to be a Cure 2. Whether I play my role well in a high-damage phase, I think, should be based off of total healing done. The SCH stuck to just healing the MT, who died even with my help, and when he did go down I got Twin's aggro.

Again- I got the healing aggro from the other healer's tank-focus _after_ applying shroud.

Sorry guys, that was totally on me; I'm such a bad healz. I bet your next run went great.

A quite bad experience which unfortunately is moving to the PF. Though i haven't done coil1 yet i get a similar attitude doing a much easier content. The way i understand it, some people are busy watching other's flaws while remain blind to own ones, so if things go wrong - they will blame the person they were watching all time while remaining blind to the real cause of the problem (most likely own flaws). Those people cannot progress past the content where they can be carried by others because #1 - they are bad and #2 - they remain blind to own flaws. If i get in such team i just get out asap and blacklist them if it was a PF team.

Did my first runs of both AK and Pharos after their 2.2 nerfs and both dungeons when I said I was new and would appreciate any tips I got a reply along the lines of "this dungeon is easy now" "just heal", with little to no information about boss mechanics until after we wiped, and frequently very little even then. After wipe on Siren, a dps literally told me to "use w/e the sch for asuna is" (misspelling of esuna included), even though I'd been using leeches on every status effect I saw in the fight because I didn't know which ones would come off and which wouldn't, and obviously they had no idea what the spell was or that I was already doing it. We won on 3rd try, after having to basically figure everything out for myself.

I'll make my debut with this post.

Background. I've almost always played a healer in all the MMORPG games that I've played. For FFXIV I had the same intention, until I found out that my FC already had to many healers for end game. So I switched over to BLM and leveled it all the way to 50. As an asside, I had forgotten how much easier being a DPS is in a group from the other rolls. About the only things I have to worry about is "is my DPS high enough", and "is my threat below the tanks"... oh and of course the obvious one "don't stand in the glowy things on the ground. :P"

Anyway I came back to my CNJ as I have every intention of leveling it to 50 as well.

So I'm doing open world content and decide, I should get back into the group dynamic and queue up for a "Guildhest". And the one for "Basic Training: Enemy Parties" pops. Ok this should be easy. We get going and no one is needing any heals. So I make my first major mistake. I switch into Cleric Stance.

I'm really not sure what happened but apparently when I switched into CS, not only did my character switch, but there must have been some internal switch in my mind that go flipped. For some reason my mind went: "OK I'm now a DPS".

So the fight goes on and the "boss" spawns.
The tank gets clobbered and goes down to 50%.
I'm thinking "ok the healer will get him".
The tank get's hit again and goes down to 25%.
I'm thinking "man this healer is slow, why hasn't he healed the tank".
The tank get's scratched again and is down to 5-10% health.
I'm thinking "wow this healer is bad, who is he so I can make note.....oh $h!t....It's me"
At this point the tank is running at me and jumping up and down.
I switch out of cleric stance and then have another brain failure. "what heal is best here...cure I/Medica...cure I/Medica..."
I decide to switftcast Medica.....Unfortunately It's to late for the tank.
The tank is down, and I'm thinking. "Well I just cost this group, as I'm not high enough for a raise, let a lone a raise in combat".
I did at least manage to get all the hate on myself. (probably also all of the player hate as well)
So I'm running around, keeping myself alive and keeping the hate.
The tank did release and was able to come back in. (mental note didn't realize that was possible in guildhests, but oh well).
We did manage to beat the event.
I've never felt so ashamed of my performance.
I did give the tank my commendation, but wow was that bad.

I also learned a couple of things. Primarily, make sure your mind is ON THE ROLE YOU CHOSE. You can't just phone it in.

I think this is the norm now after the nerf. I used to like PS....but now, post-nerf, this strat makes me hate it!
The first time it happened I was mostly thinking: WTF? as I scampered around every boss fight with adds on my ass. Had to raise too, and tank just took everything in the face! The first 2 boss fights ended with me face down in the dirt (fair, I died right near the end when I could take no more).

At the end, I didnt commend, because I was just so shocked at the way they left me to get pounded, every time...I didnt like it. I stood there too long (they all left sharp)
When I exited, I had 2 x commendation. Once again, I thought: WTF? I thought it was terrible. Shows what I know.....
I get it now, this strat....but the first time....maaaaaan, I was confused and mortified - lol

MY story is of a blm who said they didn't know how to operate cannons in stone vigil 2nd boss room, and when told how to they tried twice then simply quit using them. I ended up manning them and healing, then ate a tornado while manning one of the cannons then died. Tank died right after. Somehow they dpsed down the boss though so yay?

This weekend...Castrum Roulette
It was the WHM's first run and we advised her that this is a speed run and she needs to keep up and if possible to skip cuts scenes...she refused.
Since she has us by our collective balls and tits, we could not really continue without her...so we swallowed our chagrin and waited...each and every cut scene.

Noting her staff, I asked her about her staff (ilvl41) and she advised me that it's not her fault that she doesn't ????ing loot...clearly not the chatty kind...so I moved on.
I am not a pro with only ilvl75 but I have accepted long time ago that you r gear level has to be on par to your level and preferably higher.
For some reason, we wipe...too far apart and tanks pulling too hard and too fast. It happens.
Never wiped on my first run but it does happen.

1st Run WHM starts calling the tanks n00bs...I think tanking is a thankless job and it is hard at times to control a 8 man run...but they werent n00bs.
She then started bitching and moaning about the tanks and the n00bs but she stood there and didnt heal!
I had to slow cast raise on the scholar and bard while she stood there bitching.

It was the first time that I saw a vote to kick for a healer...ever.
I denied, thinking about the hassle of getting another one mid-duty and I wanted the myths for my zenith.

She carried on bitching and complaining and hassling the tanks, that's when the one tank decided enough is enough and actively tried to kill the 1st Run WHM by pulling the boss AOE towards the healer.
I can understand low gear. I can understand 1st runs and wanting to watch the cut scenes. I do not understand a bad attitude.
I am more than happy to help and give advice and assist where possible during duties and even outside of duties but dont give shitty attitude or you will die and we will dance on your corpse.

I've had a few runs where I'm pushed to heal harder by an inexperienced ally, but I don't usually consider than to be a nightmare (in fact I enjoy the extra challenge). For me a nightmare is where I drop a real derpy clanger of my own, and wipe everyone, like my first run of cape westwind...

It was the first time co-healing in a full party and I was so nervous I didn't notice I was in Cleric Stance for the whole first attempt. The other healer got killed and then I was in a frenzy wondering why the hell my healz were so pathetic :confused: After the wipe I noticed in the chat log everyone shouting "TAKE CLERIC STANCE OFF" "CLERIC STANCE!!!" "OMG" "HEALZ PLZ!!", etc .__. oops...

Anyway, thankfully everyone was sympathetic to my apologies, and I got a bunch of nods and "good jobs" after we cleared the 2nd attempt, which helped redeem a morsel or two of my self esteem ^^;;

I hate when I mess up my rotation and wind up turning on CS, DPS, then turn it off and heal. I'm sure the rest of the party is shouting at their screen thinking that I am just the worst. I try to shrug it off and just continue.

I'm still fairly new to healing, so I'm sure there are more horrors to come, but my two LEAST favorite things to heal for are Thousand Maws of Toto-Rak and Brayflox's Longstop. Why? Both are low-ish level AND heavily poison based :3 . That means I have to spam ensuna as well as heal the 3 other party members. Within 3~4 minutes I'm OOM and the bosses are only half dead, especially when the tank has no idea that Aiatar is both a tanking and healing check and just stands in the puddles.

People also like to ignore the ignore markers and wake up the mobs I put to sleep. They're usually the mandragora things too, so now there are 3 mobs awake and everyone has 2 stacks of poison.

Haha, I sympathise! You can try to suggest at least to the ranged DPS to stay out of the range of the mobs poison cloud, but often it takes a wipe or two if they're new for them to get it.

If you've communicated about sleeping to ease your healing burndens, but the players still struggle to notice the slept enemy, or prefer to aoe, or simply don't care, I found there's a way to "encourage" (ie force :P) your strategy even more. Run into to the pack and push one far outside it with fluid aura, followed by sleep. The aoe's won't hit him anymore and people will be less likely to hit it by mistake. I macro this with a message to the party (sound effects included ^^):

I'm going to turn this around and tell a horror story about other people healing, because this is driving me nutty lately running low dungeons on my dps classes xD

New healers rarely seem to read their skill descriptions, as they inevitably use Medica in place of Cure and then wonder why they get all the aggro and die when they run out of mp ...
Just did a run of Satasha where, no word of a lie, myself (as LNC) and an archer were having to heal the dungeon. Let that sink in for a moment.
Trying to keep myself alive with no actual healing capability was so much fun xD

Just entered the guildhest More than a Feeler and there were two lvl 50 dps. Guess what they didn't kill? The bubbles. Which spawned a bunch of slimes which then killed me and proceeded to kill everyone else.
Then after reviving, they decided the best course of action was to run in and pull everything. Which meant that by healing them I got the aggro and died again, which led to them dying. Multiple times this happened before I just decided they were idiots and left.

Every time I got this one while grinding my WHM - exact same story...every time.

After playing SCH for so long decided to lvls WHM to 50 finally from 34 since had a alt at 50 WHM and really liked it, now the fun part new tanks and dps on Titan story mode( thx roulette I hate you for this)which isn't hard by any means but had some real winners here. So as soon as we could go while I was buffing us the tank decides to go and face pull Titan no defiance, no protect thinking ok new tank I'll forgive so swiftcasted protect on him and told him to activate defiance, took telling him 8 times before he did it ( and had to repeat this every attempt) tho when he did it again I just let him die said that's your reward for playing without buffs. Now his method of tanking was so bad it was funny he circled Titan and managed to get himself landslided off 4 times. His circling making it impossible for the drg to really do much, tho he wasn't any good anyway he ignored the gaols every time. So as healer I dps'ed them when blm was trapped tho the blm who had done this ofc ignored it when I was trapped so they all died that attempt. This repeated even when I tried to explain to them he just pulled and didn't care, in the end I tanked Titan after he went on a nice trip down under managed to win with just me and blm. Needless to say not my fav moment as a healer.

Last night I was doing low level roulettes on WHM. The tank decided that using overpower was a foreign concept so after every heal. I took threat. I asked him politely to take control of the adds. No dice luckily there was a blm and dragoon who noticed what was going on and assisted. After awhile I told the tank... "If you aren't going to tank I am not going to heal you." so he died and almost died, then I felt bad after 3 mobs beat on him with no heals so I would toss a heal right as the first one died. But then we locked him out of the last boss and honestly was probably way smoother than having him in there since it was way easier to protect where things would go. The BLM did his best to keep things off of me with sleep or nuking. It made me cringe and die a little on the inside...

I have a Horror? story about Story Mode Garuda.

It was my first time running Garuda, but I knew her gimmicks and had good gear. At the start were doing fine but once she summons the feathers the DPS completely ignore them and I'm scrambling to keep the rock towers and the party alive. All the rocks fall, so when shes uses her *Instant death with no rock towers* move we get wiped. The third time this happens the tank tells me that right before she uses this move I have to use swiftcast, sprint to the center (right on top of garuda) and medica us from the brink of death. We ended up getting wiped many more times with the DPS cursing my name for being a terrible healer and rage quitting.

Never understood why people hated duty finder until this happened.

I had something like that happen was healing as slow as I could to not take hate because the tank would not hit flash I asked could you please use flash so I don't pull hate he said I was a shetty healer and how flash henders my heals and how I need to learn my job :/ ..
