We've had 12 years of war stories. There's more than enough already here for you to consume. But this is a fantasy game and not a war game so it would be interesting to finally move on from the same old tired war, especially since now the Garlean military is effectively neutered.


Now that the Hydaelyn-Zodiark and Garlean war arcs are over, we are completely free to explore the wealth of fantasy themes out there that have nothing to do with war or philosophical cosmic forces creating galactic peril.

That's not actually a bad idea. I've been waiting for the Moogle Delivery quests to come back. They were very interesting and explored the lore much more than most other sidequests do. People in this thread have already been complaining about new relic quests potentially not having lore.

Anyway, since this game is straving for content and most if not all of what will launch with 6.2 will be done and over with in a matter of days (can't overwhelm the players, am I right?), I'm looking forward to when Diofield Chronicle releases along with whenever the Tactics Ogre remaster happens. Enjoy your Hildibrand relics.

I will be off playing the stuff that I originally came to this game for instead of what it's fast becoming. Can't wait for the 8.0 relics to be tied to Moogle Delivery quests or to some Diner-Dash mode minigame that takes place at the Sharlayan burger joint.

To be quite fair, that's always been FFXIV. The few serious and dark themes we got I chalked up to getting a side dish to the main course. It's always been tongue in cheek first. I don't think I'd like it as much if it wasn't.

This game has narrative shortcomings for sure, but Hildibrand is as FFXIV as the entire sequence of Garlemald. If you're seeking thematic cohesiveness you chose the wrong game.

Thank you for forgetting that the thing they show you before that scene is Lahabrea for the first time. The "funny" bits have usually been balanced out in previous expansions but Endwalker has completely derailed that. I completely disagree with your statement that Hildibrand is "as FFXIV" as the importance of Garlemald in this game's story.

Yay funny did not sell me this game. The cgi artwork of Gaius and the ARR Black mage did. And I wouldn't have stayed on if the story didn't actually try to do something with itself in ARR/Heavensward.

FFXV as in Final Fantasy XV. Final Fantasy 15.

The game where the world ended, massive swathes of humanity were wiped out and turned into daemons. The car you joke about was the last gift the protagonist's father gave them in a bid to spirit them away to safety as the capital city was attacked. That car was destroyed when the protagonist at last had reached the enemy's stronghold after having carried them halfway across the world.

Amazing how a car at this point has more meaning and development than some of FFXV's characters.

Framing your arguments with costume dlc rather than the actual focus of the story is not making the point you think it is. This kind of stuff isn't in the players face with as much frequency as it has been in FFXIV of late. Your attempt to portray it as such is misleading.

What in Endwalker completely outbalances everything to the "funny" side? Yeah there's lopporits but there's also the entire Garlemald zone before that which is a long war story involving desperation and suicide. Sure there's 5 seconds of a cat boy eating a hamburger, but there's also 5 seconds of a boy being transformed into a monster and then being squished by a larger monster right in front of his dad. Y'shtola says one funny line, but we also get told about how one of the original great wyrms was lost to the Void and her brother has been dwelling on it for thousands of years.

The burger scene, more tea swirling, long drawn out hours of the Loporrits, Estinien and the boot, the Y'shtola magical girl moment, you know the ones that have already been pointed out to you multiple times in the past. This was an expansion of the End of the World. The End of the World should've been more than 2 zones, sorry.

The physical ranged sidequest comes to mind with that little kid being mad at us for killing his friend / relative. That takes me back to that early sidequest in Hyrstmill where that girl hasn't heard from her brother in ages and we end up killing him. Things have always leaned heavily towards the dark side. We're given some humor to balance it out, but it's never 50/50. It's more like 70/30 in favor of the dark.

Why fuss over the semantics and boundaries of "expansions"? This is what we were told it would be: One storyline ending, so another could begin. It's a different way to approach things and I think it works.

As I said in the post you quoted from that had examples you just mentioned, those were balanced out like you said how there's balance in the rest of the story before this but it looks like you just stopped reading my post after the first sentence.

No, they did not feel balanced and Endwalker is already noted for having some of the worst story pacing since Stormblood. The focus was not where it needed to be. Endwalker was more of a visual novel than an RPG, and seeing more and more of the RPG being sacrificed to this trend is something I don't feel like staying silent about.

Well, because they were trying to tell two stories, but both become compromised and condensed in order to fit into one expansion. The story would have been more coherent and less rushed if it had happened as originally planned.

Not that I get too deep in story threads specifically, but that's my opinion.

I blame the Tempest and Shadowbringers as a whole.

I remember an interview before ShB where Yoshi-P joked about the players wondering if he revealed too much of the story all at once. Then in a more recent interview he said he realized he revealed too much of the story already and there was only 20% left and after the "player reception of Shadowbringers", whatever that means, he decided to end it in one expansion.

While a lot of Endwalker was definitely rushed and more than a few things had quick explanations that didn't make sense, a part of me is glad that we didn't get Stormblood 2.0. The potential 1 of 2 future expansions would have just been another Garlean war one that probably wouldn't have been different enough from Stormblood, Werlyt, and Bozja to justify concentrating on just that for a whole 2 years or whatever the launch cycle is now. The whole idea to pause the run up to the climax of the Garlean arc that Stormblood was leading to in order to have adventures on the First is as silly to me now as it was back then. While Shadowbringers was a really good expansion, having it in the middle of everything going on and then getting all that exposition at the end threw a wrench in the story pacing.

I honestly think EW should have been extended over the patches, with Zodiark being the final boss of the main MSQ. We're not talking about that here, though.

It's entirely selective to the viewer how much silly/grim the story is because each theme is literally book-ended with the other. Even the darkest themes of FFXIV teeter into the realm of absurdity, and play out wonderfully campy. Just.. Zenos.

Hildibrand is just as FFXIV, and just as deserving of being a relic grind theme as whatever the great googly moogly Bozja was.

I have seen people talk about that as well, in regards to ShB. People do have mixed feelings on a Garlean expansion, but either way it no doubt would have led to a more satisfying ending to the Garlean Empire, and would have freed up the next expansion to be wholly devoted to the final days. ShB for sure destroyed the pacing of the main storyline, and did feel like a filler arc.

I disagree. In fact, this split of stories has generally been the case for expansion releases. Part 1 always has the story that finishes with a moment of triumph and they roll credits. Part 2 ends on some kind of cliffhanger.

Nothing felt particularly rushed, though I'm sure covid still had a substantial impact on things.

I'm fine with it as many people have missed out on some fun trials by skipping the questline. At least they've given people a pretty big heads up so they have plenty of time to get caught up. People that aren't into it can just skip the cut scenes and it's relatively easy to get through it all. At least they aren't locking stuff behind doing the delivery moogle questline. I'm pretty sure that's the most lengthy and time consuming quest in the game, and it isn't always clear how to get the next quest.

Doesn't sound like you actually did those either because many tied into old world FATE stories and characters and were rather nice additions to the lore. My favorite was probably the one about that old drunk from the FATE at Buscarron's Druthers, because it's not immediately obvious who is involved.

I liked the one with the aesthetician's brother. (The free haircut voucher didn't hurt either.)

Same, I just mostly glade SE is adding content locks to its new stuff to get people to unlock it an widen up the roulettes. Now if only there was a fix on the naked queuers

I had a solution that would fix the bonkers scaling issue. Just create stat templates for everyone once the series is past expansion, and remove the ilvl requirement for getting in. This fixes the issue of sprouts trying to do their Alliance Raid questlines in the expansion they're doing the MSQ in without having to farm tome gear, gives people the ability to complete these quests in a reasonable que time, bosses will retain at least some of their mechanics, and you won't be in CT every single day for roulettes.

Sounds good to me, my held suggestion was lock the roulette unless your level and item level meet to a proper scale based on level. So if you were lv90 you'd need all roulettes unlocked and whatever ilvl you need for Agala. People complain they'd be locked out of that roulette while leveling a job, if they were over level but the suggestion would be to play a different job for that roulette then as if your over leveled you don't need more exp on that current job if your still doing the story lol
