So we are a few weeks in, certainly not enough of a "increase" of space. Though one tab has blank spaces clearly mean't for more storage, why not just open those up in one of the updates?

Make an alt character on same server. Level up BTN on the alt. Give one of the 2 free retainers the BTN class. Level him up until lv 60. Send him out to get the mats. Sell it in the MB for 1 gil, switch to main and buy it before someone else do it (this part is easier if you have a house with garden to put your retainer in it). Or ask a friend or FC member to help with trade.
With some extra work no rented retainer is needed for venture.
http://xivdb.com/item/5068/rose+gold+nugget Please check how many recipes this item goes in. Check the level spread of said recipes. I can probably find many more items like this. I just noticed that a level 50 item was in level 61 craft so SB batch of recipes. I will give you people keep stuff. If you people will admit how poorly itemized this game is.
You are missing the point. I can get rose gold. The point is I would keep it because SE punishes me for getting rid of it. That item is something that would fall into sit on because A) its a timer(which includes ventures) B) it keeps coming back. If I have extra gold ore I don't sell it because SE refuses to let old items die to help space management. This is not the only item like this.
Not only that you said venture and voidrake. Last time I checked those also take inventory. The point is to reduce bloat not expand it.
I am also not leveling a second botanist and miner to 60 plus MSQ through HWs, so I can venture time nodes on an alt because SE doesn't understand the limitations of their system.
Exactly. Can get the material quickly enough, no reason to hold on to them.
Personally, unless it's a drop from a dungeon or raid, I don't hold on to stuff I'm not about to use (unless I forget about it, which means it makes it about a week at most before it gets tossed or sold).
You're missing the point where you are making the choice to hold on to an item you can get with relative ease because you find it less annoying.
You're missing the point that such a decision is on you, and SE shouldn't have to waste money to change things to account for your personal preferences.
Relative ease is an hour? Unless I am missing something. It was on a timer. And you are right SE shouldn't have to waste money fixing something. They should do a better job first time around. When it is a simple math for the amount of resources they have. But oh wait they can charge extra, I am sorry.
So it's on the player to have to waste the time to gather the various nonsense to re-craft items for glamour? I'm not with you there. Either a glamour catalog system or better storage is needed at this point. My retainers are loaded. I store everything I can in the armoire and I make it a point of purging anything that's a similar item model to things I want to keep and I'm still running out of space
It took WOW 7 years to get glamour right via their Transmogrification system. Please SE, don't do that. We need a glamour log. I'm really tired of hearing "It puts too much strain on the servers".
Having a proper glamour log would cut down on the necessity for so much bag space (for those using it for glamour purposes). However, more slots are still required on retainers and in our regular bags for things like crafting.
What if they also force the glamour log into one location? Not a programmer but if the worry is stress on the server but its only accessible at an Inn or Housing that would stop the issue wouldn't it? I mean yeah if you get a new armor piece in a dungeon you may look goofy for a bit till you get out but still.
Original Post literally gave developers a gift with all this valid feedback. Why won't they use it?!
in general, Inventory management update needs to happen.
i do think that factors such as grade-based and materia-level bloat could be managed. Add to topic:why not just make them like shards, crystals, and clusters instead? they are already categorized by color and level like crystals, so why not?
with that said, concepts such as this can only grow larger through each expansion: level V materia was just released with SB, so it kind of speaks for itself that this will eventually become a problem.
also, crystals, shards, and clusters; personally, i think they NEED TO GO. they have been an annoyance since i got this game and have only wasted my time and my retainer's progression.
the amount of required items per craft past ARR also could use an update as you have mentioned already. why do i need 3 HQ Wyvern skins to even have a chance to make ONE HQ Wyvern leather? not to mention that one of those required materials (Coerthan Tea Leafs)are time-based.
Can we delete the fishing log and replace it with the glamour log?
im all up for a new cosmetic update with a glamour log.
i have played DCU online and they have a fairly simple cosmetic system that would be perfect for FFXIV. by simply obtaining a piece of clothing/armor, it is automatically saved into a "glamour log" where the player can simply equip the items he/she wants stat-wise, then select an outfit from this log. its simple and easy. SE is just wasting opportunity NOT adding something like this to the game.
The discussion wasn't about glamour items, it was about the claim that one has to hold on to a ton of different crafting material in general, when most of it can be gathered quickly when needed and those that hold on to it despite the ease with which it can be obtained need to realize that SE does not need to make significant resource investments just because they have a problem with hoarding and are too lazy to go out gather the items when they actually need them (outside of the truly annoying, tough to get, or rare items, of which there are not enough to fill one retainer, much less the bloody eight some claim are necessary to play this game, there is little reason to hold on to most crafting materials you aren't about to use).
It's a couple minutes out of an hour, and then you can go and do other stuff before the next available time.
Also, like me, SE probably expects that you won't hoard materials outside of the really annoying, rare, or tough to get items (of which there aren't enough to fill a single retainer, much less 8) and go and get the items when you need them, since most of them are very easy to get.
Ya'll are just being bloody lazy and wanting to hold on to everything you might maybe possibly need someday, and then whining when you can't do that, and expecting SE to bow to your whims.
It's really that simple.
Just realized today that I'm already carrying around a catalog of thousands of items with a simple "y/n" applied to each one that determines if I've utilized it before. It's called a crafting log. Seriously, if my crafting log was at this moment given the additional function of providing me instant access to glamour for armor and weapon designs that I've previously made, I'd have access to at least 1/3 of the existing models in the game.
SE keeps giving excuses because they've limited their thinking to only one way in which the glamour log would function. They've already got 2 or 3 other good options at their disposal. The only reason to wait to implement a proper glamour log is if they want to make it a selling point of a future expansion.
Lazy? Two minutes of time? It is on a timer TIMER. It has to be planned to gather. If you play for 2 hours a day you have two chances. That does not take into account Oh I don't know a duty popping. If you said hey they removed all that shit from timers go take a teleport and two minutes to hit a node OK.
Actually its really simple I want recipes to be mostly blocked off into expansions. No reason to hold stuff when its done. DESIGN, I want better design that doesn't punish players. Yes I consider redoing a task for no reason but because the devs thought "hey it would be cool to have an item in 161 recipes". I also don't want items added onto old currency. You shouldn't have to think I should hold Ixal oaknots from two years ago because they will be worth all the overmelds in the world.
It is just as much about gear and glamour and that will keep being a core part of the inventory problem. You want to cast the problem as hoarding and it's not. We have 15 combat classes to have gear for, not all of which is shared. So if you're holding on to leveling gear, that takes space.
We have 8 crafters and 3 gatherers we have gear for along with some mats for each. If you are able to keep them all close in level then that will cut down a little, otherwise you're presumably holding on to gear as you level them to swap them into.
If you have just the two retainers then you aren't keeping much in the way of leveling sets or glamour, or you aren't keeping much in the way of mats.
@Berethos: If you craft a lot then its not about some minutes or an hour of time..its about days! I wanted to finish all the items for one crafter job at the end of HW since I like to do everything once (but not housing stuff). I only had one level page of crafting left for this one, so I thought that it might not be too much. At the same time I needed some turn ins for crafting scrips too. I had to collect nearly 1000 items..I bought some from the MB and had some stuff still on retainer but most of it was gathered. It took over a week of only doing this to gather everything and the producing itself went by really fast. I had to do it in steps because I simply could not hold so many items at a time.
I know that this might be a bit much but heck the first crafted item for this job at lvl 61 needs around five items which need even more gathered items..and the next one needs something from the first one too but also something different..this is just for one job!
So never keeping any mats will just mean hours of gathering if you need it. Not everyone has the time to play hours a day/week so we need to store at least the more valuable stuff. On top of that you will have lots of glamour stuff that you cant put away, cant buy again and thus need to store it too. And nobody wants to run dungeons again and again to get a certain piece of equipment another time for glamour.
I do have a good friend (I think I mentioned him some times in this topic too) that bought the collectors edition, buys stuff from the mog station and merchandise..And he feels like he does not want to play the game anymore. He loves to collect dungeon/special gear but even with all retainers and a alt character (which stores mats) its simply not enough. He now has to decide what to throw away (what he got from hours of running dungeons) to make more space for special gear that you cant get again. He has no motivation to start SB and at a time he even asked himself if he still wants to play the game. This is someone that brings in a lot of money for SE..you will lose someone like that if you keep going at it. And I am sure that he will not be the only one that says goodbye somewhere in the future if we get no solution.
All you need to do is make three things: Glamour book (does not have to be something complicated, can be at one place to avoid server stress), tackle box for fishers and put all the beastman and primal currencies under the currency tab. With that you have done a lot to go against inventory problems. Maybe a free retainer each expansion and I am sure that barely anyone would complain about inventory ever again. (And as a good side effect people might run older dungeons again to get every glamour option) If you have created a good system once you just have to add all the new gear per patch/expansion to it and be done with that.
There will be a time, maybe two expansion in the future, where even those that are fine with space right now will either need to buy retainers or will have problems too because you create more and more stuff that you either will never get again (but cant store), or that people will need to buy for real life money if they want it again. (All those event housing stuff..) If you only react then, it will probably be too late and you might lose lots of customers which means loss of a lot of money.
You are quoting someone that has 2 crafting at 70, one gathering at 70 and 2 combat jobs at 70. Then also note in progress PLD and BTN. This is not how I define someone that puts in effort in crafting and really crafts every day. Anyone can "buy" 2 level 70s by now though leves, hard core crafters had them all to 70 within the first week or 2. (even midcore crafters/gathers have them all to 70 this point, or very close to it) I also feel the need to state the current gear set for miner is not even glammed while having level 50 right side (besides offhand) Just because someone has something at 70 does not mean they are using it like the people that are complaining about space.
There is a lot of repetitive items as well. For example, Koppranickel Sand is well done, used in inks, nuggets, so on, gathered from one node. Then we have Durium Sand, Palladium Sand, and Doman Iron Sand all from the same node (Azim Steppe lv 70 node) There is no reason to do that in a game that is hurting with item bloat. At that point you need to have one sand from that node and just mix it with other existing stuff for the different level items.
The problem for crafters is simply this, there is too much items in the game, while needing too much different types of items to craft something. Also when you need say 4 items to go in a nugget, have one of those nugget +4 other items go in an ingot, then have that ingot +4 more items to go in another type of ingot, people should see the item bloat stuff like this causes. Now that yellow scripts are out, and note this calumniation was based on first day, I think they increased the turn in values but the thing is this existed. On the first day when I decided scripts are not worth the effort, you would need 1500 or so Twincoons for the full weaver set. THAT IS INSANE! we do not have the proper space to manage something like that. The op did well offer different suggestions to deal with this and that is simply, increase stack size, if that can't be done, slow down the rate people gain items, while making crafts require less items in proportion, if that can't be done, simply remove repetitive/rarely used items like the sand example I gave or the OP's suggestion removing all Obsidian type ores and items like that. There is not even new Obsidian type ores in SB, so that tells me SE realized how fail that material was.
Anyone that makes full use of the game, multiple glams, collecting stuff that can't be stored for glams like Alleo pointed out, and people that do that along with being a real crafter have inventory issues. Everyone that commented they have no room problems had only a few jobs leveled to 60 (the posts before SB came out) and wonder why people have room problems. Yes the game gives you more then enough space if you only play 1 or 2 jobs while doing limited glams/crafting/gather. However those that make full use of the game, it should be easy to understand they need more room without being called hoarders. Also, PS, the new delta raids, more currency bloat that needs to be in a currency tab, SE is just repeating the same inventory problems, making the matters worse, without giving any relief.
I am wondering why no one from the staff posted in a thread that has 166 likes with 63 pages long?
Also there is stuff that should be storable in the Armoire but isn't, like MSQ based stuff like the Scion set and Manderville gear. I do not understand why barrage us with so much items with no place to put it. Either make the game have less items, or give us more options to put things in.
Why can't we store the wedding set in the armoire? Any item that comes from an event/item/cash should have an in game way to store or a cheesey way to recover.
It would be bad PR to respond. They need to wait for the dev team to deliberate a solution, which they are apparently doing, assuming they do anything at all. If they do nothing, obviously it would be bad form to draw attention to it. If they do do something, they will need time to frame it as favorably for themselves as possible.
As for CUL, if your alrdy at endgame 1/2 a retainer can do for endgame craft, I main CUL and doing just fine with one and not even moved on to tab 5,6,7,8 yet. The only Non SB food I still make is Seafood, bec player still by it for the control/Cp buff, we don't have any more with new food.
For most of this sure, bnt #7, hell no... It not a SHORTCOMING, SE will not stop doing something they make a lot of money off just bec ppl want more free shit...This is in place so players will not try to do it all with out paying for it.. You want to be a solo craft with no life and do it all your self.. Then pay for it! Other way work with you're guild and stop being a loner. ( I'm on of them who payed for it, all fucking 8)
Are you talking about 1 craft here? As in, you're only stockpiling mats for one craft?
Try having a few extra at 70, then tell me there are no inventory space issues.
I have 6 retainers total.
1. One of them is filled with levelling gear for the near-future, that I have collected while levelling other jobs.
2. Another is filled with dungeon drops including green/blue gear that I like the look of (for glamour purposes).
3. Another is filled with stuff like primal tokens, materia, glamour prisms, all of that stuff that you don't really want to just toss.
4. One is filled with bound housing items from the various times I have shuffled around my furniture and replaced certain items. This also includes a number of exclusive event furnishings that I cannot re-obtain without purchasing from the mog station..
5. One is filled with a bunch of desynth items that I am not quite high enough to desynth (Admittedly I could just toss this)
6. And my final retainer, which is full and actually overflowing onto the other 5 retainers - filled with crafting mats for lv 60+ gear, that I craft on a daily basis.
My inventory is also constantly at 135+ with the majority of the items being crafting mats.
Yes, admittedly I am a bit of a hoarder for rare/exclusive items that you can't simply go out and buy off a marketboard - but this is a big part of the problem.
Many other games solve this issue by having a unique storage method for a lot of this stuff that accumulates.
Furthermore, many other games don't have the multi-armory system that this game does, and you don't actually have any reason to store gear for other classes.
Some examples:
- Armoire storage or some form of glamour wardrobe, which allowed us to store all non-tradeable/marketable gear.
- Items such as primal tokens, ventures, raid book pages etc could be stored as a currency, rather than a physical item. Or place these items in the large "Key Items" storage that we have but don't use.
- Materia could be stored in a similar form as crystals.
- Crafting mats could be stored in a crafting log, similar to guildwars 2.
There are a number of already in-game storage methods for a lot of this stuff.. They just have to be adjusted to cater toward a lot of these physical items we tend to accumulate.
But people are willing to pay for it (and yes I'm part of the problem too). If they fix the inventory problems and offer more space for free, I wouldn't need those extra retainers and that's lost revenue for the company, and I bet I'm far from the only one there. If they tried that their shareholders would have them fired on the spot. But let's say they did it and doubled the sub fee for everyone, that could work, but then people would complain about "I don't need all this extra space, why should I have to pay extra for my sub?" - because yes, if SE takes out the renting option for retainers, expect the sub fee to go up for everyone to account for the lost revenue. SE is a business. It has one purpose. Make as much profit as possible.
Now, that is a fair point and one I hadn't truly accounted for. However, at this time, I don't think it's hurting SE's back pocket too much. In time, things may get worse and therefore the pendulum swings, but that is for the future and I'll cross that bridge if we get to it. It all depends on the playerbase.
Yes SE is a business but they need people that are playing the game. If they do not provide us with a good solution people will quit in the future. Thus lost money too. They already have lots of income thanks to the cash shop..if they cant provide us with enough space without sold retainers or higher fee, then I do question if this game is even truly profitable.
Be too greedy and you will lose too much money.
I had to buy another retainer that is 3 now :( I don't understand how they calculate space requirements with all the amount of items you need to craft or gather. Item bloat I think.
Willing? no, they pay for it because they(we/me) HAVE TO to be functional in the game. People are approaching more and more to that line of simply quitting because of lack of room for stuff.
This is plain ridiculous, I too have a retainer purely dedicated to currencies. We should not be forced to rent space for currencies.
From ventues to blue/red/Regional Folklore tokens, so on, all these items should simply not exist or be in a currency tab.
How are they "working on a solution" when all they do is keep adding to the problem?? (like the 3 sands from the same node example I gave, or the new delta currencies and the Regional Folklore tokens. I want to know why they keep ADDING to the problem and not fixing it.
Is is another alt Ama? How many do you have lol.
