Just too bad there isn't anything to find in the open world of FFXIV. No loot to find, no NM's to discover, it's just... empty space. Maybe it's too early to tell where SE is going with FFXIV. The sad part is, maybe not many will still be on board by the time they get there.

I completely agree; however, this doesn't simply apply to MMOs. In looking at the industry as a whole, think of the changes that have taken place in gaming over the past 13 years.

If anything, I would say gaming as a whole has lost its magic. Though that could just be the 'old man' in me talking. I can say this much though, nowadays I don't really branch out so much in gaming as I did in the past. I stick to very specific things now, and I do that for a reason.

I have to agree running the same content over and over again to get better gear is not an adventure. Every FF game ever (Since FF1) has had that feeling of foreboding danger if you leave a city, this really doesn't have that most of the time. Once you hit 50 there is really very little to do but run the same content over and over to get cool looking gear so you can run more content over and over again. Or you can level a new class but you are still doing the same content over and over. I get bored quick when things get repetitive and I am sure others do to.

what is funny is that I have been buying DL armor for my alts not even level 50 yet because ive been capping Philosophy tomes from grinding the 300 Mythology tomes each week .

Kinda lame when you think about it , should have to gear up on the job you are playing not use another job to gear up other jobs right ? I guess all it does it speed up the end game even faster.

Pretty much all I need to do is farm Relics on those jobs when I hit 50 .

I enjoy FFXI during it release but now with exam/assignment/classes I rather not have the route of FFXIV: camp a 24hr pop HNM, waiting hours and hours in Jueno for a XP pty.

That's because there are now forums, and social media and this crazy epidemic where if enough people bitch, game development will ultimately change. "Feedback" actually ruined games.

Also i don't think FFXI had commercials and years of hype like FFXIV. But let the defenders have their fun. In the end we'll see which one was better by how many subs FFXIV can maintain consistently compared to FFXI.

As an FFXI player since 2003 I so agree with this post (OP). I feel the same way! Though each thought I have about what it is that's "missing" I just know it would "upset" all the younger players use to wow and what not.
Imagine it taking 1 year or so to reach maxlevel, or tank losing aggro = into the player having hate dying in 1 hit. Or monsters so tough they're not really farmable til the game has been out 3 years. Those areas you dare not go into.
I mean every thing that takes longer than 5 min = a new complain thread on the forums. The devs today hardly have any choice.

Also FFXI had about the same subs from first week til 7-10 years later. Says a lot about it.

Yeah, pretty much, I seriously wish more than just a few of these artists would just stick to THEIR vision; and ignore the internet hate machine.
