Adding on top of what Balipu and Naunet has already mentioned, this have another glaring issue. You need the ENTIRE set for it to work. Do we even need to go about again how much of a PITA RNJesus can be at times? So before we collect the entire set, the separated pieces will still be laying around taking up inventory slots. So no, I don't think this is a good compromise (along with other reasons already explained).

Overthinking it.

If you have cleared a dungeon, you simply need to deposit "X number of gears from Y" and then all gear from that dungeon is unlocked. It doesn't matter what the gears are. So you have 14 slots which 13 have gear that can be put in, and of them 2 of those slots are your Weapon/Shield, and you can't wear two of the same unique item (rings.) So if you deposit 10 gears from that dungeon, everything is unlocked. Every time you deposit a gear you can drop it on a "player paper doll" of which piece you want. Consider that the belt and accessories tend to be not visible/barely visible, and you'll see that most people who want to just glam four or five left-hand gear slots will unlock those and ignore the rest.

I think this would at least add some incentive to run the old dungeons for completionists.

Another work around this is to simply have a "Glamour Replica Blacksmith" NPC where you can trade in gear for other ilevel gear of the same dungeon set for blueprints. The dungeons just then drop <theme> blueprints in addition to the original gear, or you can trade in the gear you get for theme blueprints. If you want the actual gear, go to the original NPC that you traded in "antique armor/tomes" before. Replica gear retains the original level, but it's ilevel is 1, and has no stats, and can't be turned in for GC's or sold for gil (value 1 gil.) Run a dungeon 10 times on minimum party size and use the blueprints farmed to replace the entire set of gear you need.

That would be viable within the existing shop mechanics we already have, but doesn't help with inventory bloat. But then again, you don't need to keep the blueprints once you have the gear you need to create the glamour in the first place. If for example you want the Demon gear from WoD or the Scylla/Amon gear from Sycrus tower, you'd just turn in the gear for blueprints and once you have 10, you buy the replica version of whatever role you need. I support the OP's message. I have been frustrated with just about every point the OP brought up.

Glamour log, needed. Copy WoW, we'll be happy. need a reference visual? go to WoW. LotRO's system is another approach. So is Wildstars. Even ESO has some good ideas (like unlockable dyes in a table you can simply choose from when dying.) TAKE UR PICK, they all work better then what we have currently.

Move Currencies to the Currency tab. All of them.

Tackle box Plz.

Those alone would alleviate soooo many problems. Can't get into retainers, it makes my brain implode. so many other effective solutions to that...er...mess. Dangit, there goes another brain cell.

Your suggestion seems over-complicated for a compromise to what a glamour log can (and should) achieve, even when compared to what Yoshi-P suggested on the LL (clear X content Y times to unlock everything in X content) or what DarkDedede mentioned earlier (I understand that as how the Garo achievement work).

I thought we were getting +40 slots per inventory, meaning +40 for the character in use and +40 for each of the hired retainers, including the additional ones from the Mog Station!...

I just found out that's not the case, it's just +40 slots for the character in use and nothing more, what a sick joke Square Enix, this doesn't help at all!... :(

My understanding this whole time was that we were getting 40 more inventory slots for our characters and an armoury expansion, but retainers were not getting any more space. I think you just misinterpreted what they said.

As I recall they never said the inventory expansion was specifically just 'for your character'. Retainer inventories up until now have been basically carbon copies of player inventories, it wasn't a massive leap to think that the 'inventory expansion' would apply to them as well. Would have at least enabled them to kick the underlying inventory issues down the road a little further.

How about this hypothetical solution then.

You have a special glamour log "page" item that you can glamour your set pieces to. The "page" only takes one inventory slot. After you have the glamour recorded on the page, you can do with the gear whatever you please (wear it, turn it in, desynth it, etc). Once you have a complete page, then you can record the page in the "glamour log."

The solution would save inventory space and server space.

As for rng wrestling, I'll have to think of a solution for that one.

By the way, has anyone tested this new feature, mentioned in the patch notes?

Do we get gear specific to that dungeon, or a different type of gear? It's it's some sort of normal gear, I'll be disappointed.

I assume it's the same system Yoshi talked about for raids in the live letter.

Where, in raids, one of the drops will be guaranteed to be for one of the jobs in the party.

I'm not sure why you'd suggest putting an intermediary item between obtaining a piece of gear and unlocking it in a glamour log.

I think the reason for these suggestions is that people are trying to give SE the benefit of the doubt, since they have said they can't(won't) make a glamour log in the conventional sense. I'm still not sure they even know what a glamour log is. Contemplating doing a mock-up to spell it out.

The lack of storage and rain more items in SB is really hurting...

Now I am limited to giving/getting items from alts in NA mornings or nights because of high queue times

I feel the storage problem right now with the new dungeon set of the second dungeon..I would want it for each role yet I have no idea where to store it. Wished that they had increased the retainer inventory too.

You would think a thread this big would have garnered some GM attention at least. Why after over 3 years is the dev team still not active doing some kind of QA for its player base. Why can we still not have access and freedom develop addons that correlate with the game. It's of no loss on SE's end to allow people to access how game works and create software that enhances the game.

Add-ons sadly would not help with this particular issue. I think SE is concerned about releasing their API and people using it to exploit the game. It's a lot of extra work for them, and they understandably want to devote resources to things people play. The lesson the industry seems to have taken from WoW's Cataclysm expansion is that even if you give people a lot of content, it has to be playable and new or people don't appreciate it.

I ended up hiring a second extra retainer (so, four in total). I seriously kind of resent having to rent storage in a subscription game.

They should have given everyone a 3rd retainer this expansion.

even with all of the shisui gear, and leveling crafters to 70, i still havent even gone over 25 slots used in all but 1 of my armory chest sections, and im still only about half full on personal inventory

I'm not very good about space efficiency, I have 8 retainers in total, 6 of which are paid ones and I'm down to 12 free slots on my personal inventory, my retainers don't have more than 20 free slots in total (all the 8 together) and SE doesn't help solve the issue!...

The Armory Chest expansion is a real blessing for glamours but the inventory expansion is just not enough of an improvement, however, the Producer said this was the first of a two-step increment so I'm really hoping they'll increase the inventory further by a generous amount not only for the personal bag but for all retainers as well!...

SE could easily allow for stacks of x999 or even x9999 but for some cheap reason they haven't done it yet when that would clearly be one of the best ways to increase inventory space!...

The game has too many items to deal with, the current glamour system being the one that uses most of my space, SE's misery with the the lack of Armoire support for most of them (gear sets, DLCs, etc.) is hurting everyone, I have no idea of how they pretend to have us enjoy everything with only two retainers by default, unless you live day by day you can't possibly have enough space!...

I've been careless about inventory management so far this expansion, and I'm not anywhere close to filling up my inventory, armory, or the four retainers I use (don't even need the extra space from the two extra, I just want more exploration venture opportunities and to be able to sell more on the MB)...

Honestly, it's not on SE to solve the problems hoarders create for themselves.

I have 7...and 2 more level 17 plus alts for a total of 21 retainers - still won't be enough (I would have 8 toons if it didn't take 4-5 hours to get them through the story to 17, ugh!) When they add 100's of new gathering/crafting/useless fish/etc. every expansion it quickly becomes not my fault I never have space. Yes, I need to keep it, ALL.

1) You don't need to keep it all. Keep on hand only what is both annoying to get and used in frequently used/high price items. That cuts out most of the items.

2) Even holding on to most stuff, how in the world are you actually filling up 3675 inventory slots and finding that amount to still not be enough?

3) Hoarding to that level is both your fault and it's not the responsibility of SE to make significant development changes that would take both time and resources to cater to a behavior that is engaged in by only a fraction of the playerbase.

You must be a light crafter then...most people who focus on crafting don't spend hours a day gathering 200 items from 50 different sources or rely on the volatile MB supply/prices. We stockpile...

Seriously. Waiting until you need something to go get it is how you wind up paying out the nose for something like gold ore, or dravanian paprikas. Admittedly, the additional abilities gained by DoL in SB have made milk runs of that sort much less time consuming, but still, there's no way I'd be a Goddess of the Hand right now if I had needed to waste time fetching old world mats everytime I needed them.

I have one whole retainer (paid one sadly..) just for glamour and housing stuff and I had to throw away some weapons to store some new glamour...the other ones are full with gathering stuff and other currencies..I am not going to throw these items away to have more space and have to gather it all again if I need it..If you do not have space problems then its good for you but not everyone is that way.

Some people love to just collect dungeon gear because they like the look or maybe want to appreciate the work that SE put in them. So like a lot of people said, a glamour book would be a real deal breaker with the inventory problems.

If you craft one item or two its mostly not that time consuming but I want to craft at least each item once so I did a whole lot of crafting at one time and all I can say is: It took days to just collect the raw material that I needed for this and I could not craft everything once because I did not have enough space for the raw items so I had to split that too. Its a lot of work and time if you craft more than one item. Also some need items that are rare or timed, so no I will not throw those away..

Since we're employing anecdotal evidence, I don't even craft, my retainers have nothing but spare housing items and glamour pieces. They are all full, and my inventory is nearly so. The only thing the space increased helped with was armory chest space, of which I currently have an abundance.

This is so funny, I cried inside. Inventory/retainers are an issue because of recipes requiring older mats all the time not letting us move on. So the solution is to have more retainers so you can venture them to get the mats. I will probably be gone but if trend continues old beast tribes will have something added to them in the 4.0 series which in turn will punish people who didn't sit on tokens or fate turn in items. I in no way greatly benefited from having close to 600 ixal knots when they added materia to that vendor.

Again if SE would just say no more forcing players backwards dump those items. I could get behind don't keep it. Stormblood mats should probably fit on one retainer. One retainer for glamor. A solution for seasonal housing items (not the mogstation). Reduction of food/potion recipes, the 3 per craft is an improvement, but not enough. Most people could probably get down to two.

Thank you OP for compiling all those lovely suggestions, maybe if the community keep asking for it SE will finally do something about it, and yet, there are people who are against reducing item bloat, apparently some people find spending hours on sorting out all the junk we get and rerunning old dungeons every time you need to glamour fun?

I put crafting on hold since HW because it's too much of a hassle to make space and the problem will only get worse with each new set of dungeon\glamour gear we get, really disappointed that we didn't get any extra free retainer after 2 expansions yet we can rent them for $$
