6.0 Story Speculations

All this talk of the Dreamer, and here I am thinking it will be the key to finishing off the entire end of the world scenario, probably with us using its power and wielding the greatest Limit Break that would work for it...Final Fantasy. Because we literally have a dreamer, we're dealing with the End of the Days, and the dream of the 14 worlds may in fact be the last fantasy it will dream.

The solo instance will be pre-death Scarmiglione and his zombie hordes. Then we get the real fight as a trial.

With the mention of "gate of the gods", and since Ascian have become Zilart v2 in ShB, I wouldn't be surprised if Endwalker rips off some more FFXI plot points. Like, whatever our 2 clowns are planning, they're pumping aether directly from the mothercrystal and it creates emptiness so one or two dungeons would be promyvion.

Well, from what they have been saying, unlike other expansions, 6.3 is not going to conclude a story arc.
So maybe we will not get a "final boss" in the 6.3 MSQ, which would make room for 4 trials in a side story.

Yeah, they're saying 6.0 will conclude Endwalker (and the whole HvZ story arc as a whole), and 6.1 will be a completely new story.

I have no idea what that would even look like in the context of moving into 7.0, but if I had to speculate (on zero evidence), I'd say 6.x is the clean-up for whatever goes down in Endwalker, which might include fighting certain enemies left over from the Final Days Recreation that just happen to look like the FF4 Four Fiends.

I'm kind of hoping that the rest of the Telophoroi are Ascians who decided to get all flamboyant like Fandaniel, and are now taking on reimagined forms of the Four Fiends >_> Do we have enough Ascians left to do that?

I'm, not sure, quick google search says we've 5 still unaccounted for, so yes, it would seem, though given they've kinda "ended" their's and the Garlean plot I'm not sure what they plan for them, if they'll just be "killed off" off screen, they'll show up as minor/major bosses or hell, perhaps we'll even work with them, if Gaia and Danny showed us, it's they really only were all kept on the same page loosely by the unsundered and it feels like that may have been less willing and more, "here have memories, ignore what I may or may not have done to the last shard of you." *zap*

6.X seems likely to be a wrap-up for leftover plot threads from the entire Hydaelyn/Zodiark saga.

The remaining Ascians seem more likely to appear in Pandaemonium than a trial series though.

I desperately want you to be right! Between Fanboy talking about how he wants everything destroyed, and the background of the last segment of Amaurot looking like the planet getting wrecked in FFVI, I’ve been sitting here with my fingers crossed for them to not go that far on this world.

And at the risk of sounding like a Heroic Comedic Sociopath, I have also been hoping most of the damage will happen in areas that aren’t full of characters I care about. I mean, Eorzea is still cleaning up the catastrophe from five years ago, plus Ishgard/Dravania just agreed to end a millennium’s worth of lies and death, Ala Mhigo and Doma just went Garlean-free... and I just plain like Idyllshire and the Steppe.

Well at least we can take comfort in the fact that our own little island sanctuary that we seemingly will be able to start with 6.0 will be save from it all. So even if there is destruction everywhere else, all will be well there. ;) (Yes I still find it funny that we will be able to take this up while the world is fighting against the end)

It's been announced as 6.1 content, so technically it's where we can retire to after saving the world. I imagine it will be unlocked by the level 90 MSQ, just to prevent that disconnect.

Isn’t emmerololth still alive since we see her in ARR which takes place after the events of eureka

I believe Moose refered to it as "Schrodinger's Emmerololth", and has her with a big ol' "WTF" on his spreadsheet. Basically from what we know of her she's dead. Like, really dead, "Galuf and friends scattered her essence in such a way that she shouldn't be able to reform" dead. But we DO see her in ARR, which may have been an oversight, or maybe someone else got raised to the seat of Emmerololth and the one in Eureka's backstory was the previous one.

If it WAS an oversight, at that point they should've just used Deudalaphon, who hasn't been mentioned, or Halmarut, who's only mentioned in Akademia Anyder. If there's a new Deudalaphon... guess that actually leaves us with 5 Ascians for (likely) 5 dungeons between 81 and 89 (plus the lvl 90 dungeon), but it feels like a very important plot point to not have been picked up again.

We have to keep in mind at the time they had an unsundered who specialized in the underworld. Idk if Moose mentioned that or not but it’s the more likely thing imo.

At this point it's a race to respond to the CLEAN-UP ON AISLE 2.3 page.

On one hand you've got the explicit phrase "consigning her essence to be scattered within that raging torrent of aether, never again to reform." Val was confirmed destroyed by 2.2, and Emmerololth was in 2.3. There are ways to make sense of that IN-WORLD (Oh, another shard was re-risen very very quickly.) but the most sensible explanation OUT-OF-WORLD is that the writer of Eureka forgot one or both of those plot point positions, and also perhaps that Elidibus and Lahabrea were SHOCKED an Ascian could be ganked in 2.5 (which is already weird alongside Emet-Selch mentioning how many times he's overseen "changes of the guard"). So there's a lot to clean up there, not the least of which the matter of, if they go the route of Emmerololth being re-risen, why not Nabriales? Why not Igeyorhm? Why not rush another Mitron and Loghrif out that the ones in Eden didn't know about? Tried to get an extra Ascian off the board and possibly resurrected most of them! WHOOPS.

Other than that, we've got Pashtarot, Halmarut, Deudalaphon and Altima in the wind. Fandaniel in our face. Two unexplained masks on Gaius's belt. And two extra overlords who shouldn't exist in the 2.0/2.3 scenes.

As much as I hate subtraction retcons and celebrate SE's use of addition retcons (aka good writing), this might be a Nael van Darnus situation; things are so out of hand the pros outweigh the cons as pertains to getting a little iron-fisty with the lore for a minute, lol.

Insert lore book line that can be summed up as “Elidibus forgot Ascians could be killed by 2.5 after raising one in 2.3 and Lahabreas body switching and scenery chewing made him too crazy to have a logical reaction.”

Honestly, if they really wanted to address it perhaps Pandemonium might be a good time, especially if we get some interesting lore revelations on Lahabrea.

As far as Emmerololth goes, I would posit that in Galuf's memo it states that they first set the Isle of Val to drown in the Lifestream, and then gave the evacuation order. After that they combined forces to beat Emmerololth, also using the Lifestream. I always sorta took this vague rendition of, "Yeah, then we beat an Ascian while drowning out home in the Lifestream." as a sort of, "Yeah, we beat her by jettisoning her into the stream."

Either way, island disappears, and Emmerololth doesn't come back, but is then there in the post Ramuh scene. I'm sure Moose has gone over it all with a fine toothed comb many a time, but I can't help but wonder if the Emmerololth in the 2.3 scene is a lady or not. I'd also wager that the Ascians chocked having to raise another Emmerololth up to, "Yeah, ain't nobody live through getting trapped in the Lifestream without aid (except plot armored cat girls, of course)."

Also I always took the Ascian's surprise at us killing Nabriales as more of a surprise that, "Oh hey, they killed one of us with their own power. That is doing me a concern!" Rather than, you know, killing them by getting them to walk off a cliff, so to speak.

Clearly what actually happened here is while they were re-setting up the Convocation, someone fricked up so now we have two Emmeroloth and two [insert sundered Ascian of your choosing].

I doubt the remaining Ascians would actually support what Fandaniel is doing.

If Lahabrea really is still alive in some capacity, I expect them to show up in Pandemonium so they can all be conveniently dealt with in one fell swoop as he's the closest thing to a leader they have left to rally under.

6.x was mentioned as being the end of the Ascian story, so I think they're more likely wrap up their role entirely by the end of the patch cycle then have them continue to be a catalyst for future storylines.

Unless they intend to keep one or two of the lessers around, as without the unsundered they're not major threats for future one of plot line shenanigans, then KageTokage is likely right, they'll either all be in Pandemonium with Lahabrea, if that ends up being a "He's back" thing and not some other means we interact with him, or we might just find out that Zenos and Fandaniel got to them and they've been twisted into monstrosities and they'll be dungeon/trial/solo/some already just killed off. I mean those two (mostly Zenos) pretty much axed Garlemald off screen as a main antagonist to clear the way from the finally, wouldn't be surprised to learn they've done the some to the Ascians.

Yes. I have very strong suspicions that the entire point of Pandaemonium is to not only clean up a few loose ends, but to reverse Lahabrea's villain decay. What he was has been redefined since he ceased to be that thing, so we have to find a way to add some addendums that help him feel on-par with Emet-Selch and Elidibus as much as we're told he was. I'm expecting a wild, and probably at least partially sad (in a "We definitely had to kill him. Tragic life, tho, bro." kind of way), ride.

I think that's almost guaranteed. Even if Fandaniel's master plan were actually to recreate the Final Days to empower Zodiark by giving Him back His purpose, only to enable him to eat everything and start over; a new Genesis in his image, a Kingdom worthy of His Dark Radiance or whatever, something any tempered mook like Nabriales could get on board with, why would any of the others agree with letting that dramatic nitwit sit at Zodiark's right hand when it could be them? Nabriales hated that Lahabrea was going to look good in front of Zodiark, lol.

The biggest twist for me would be if they were all in on it.

Would it really be a twist though? After all, not all of the convocation were Nabriales, and are supposed to be individuals. You'd think we'd have seen a lot more gambits like Nabriales's given how often we weren't at the Rising Stones afterwards if they were all horny to prove themselves/be the biggest bad for Zodiark. Perhaps there's a reason for why there are still Convocation members left alive. Perhaps more of them than we know weren't full of fervor and ready to die trying to accelerate Zodiark's return. Perhaps even less so now. It could be that our victory over Emet-selch and Elidibus drove them to doubt their implanted memories, however accurately they resonate with them, such that even those tempered find gentler solace in Fandaniel's insanity.

I've rewatched the post Ramuh scene with the Convocation, and I'm quite curious about this seemingly dropped line, "All that remains is to nurture the strength of the gifted... to forge the final key."

What the heck does that even mean? What is the final key? Who are the gifted to be nurtured? @,@ We're never gonna know now, are we?

IIRC Nabriales was also talking about a key. I think it was either Minfilia or Tupsimati.

Basically it's one of the points that really looks like they were setting up for the Ascians to go a very different direction to where they eventually ended up going – or rather, set a plot hook (without a solid follow-up plan at the time) that should have pointed in a different direction if they'd actually connected to it instead of ignoring it and trying to paint over the gaps.

To me, the early beginnings of the Ascians painted them more as a cult of individuals, brought together in purpose "The one true god!" but very much having their own goals and interests and even seeming that actively going against one another to pursue their own agendas was going to be a thing.
Obviously that's not what they ultimately decided on and so we get the unsundered having to "keep them in line" as an explanation for these transgressions, in addtion to us still not really knowing how the "raising up" processed really works. from Gaia's flashback they seem to lose their current memories, get their "old" ones back, but are confused and almost need to be lead or have someone "fill in the blanks."

I'm just going to throw in here what I think, could be completely wrong and I think it will be but...

With the defeat of Elidibus in 5.3 and now Zodiark without its heart, the balance of the world is fluctuating rapidly, causing the End of Days to occur again. The balance everything back out, Zodiark will need its heart replaced. A lot of people think Zenos will 'eat' Zodiark and us with Hydaelyn but I think instead that at the end, following the big calamity where we defeat the final boss, Zenos turned into Anima, Zodiark will still need its heart due to Elidibus not existing and instead of Zenos filling the heart, it will be the person who has had a lot of focus on them again. Someone who has been struggling with how everything turned out on The First, The Source, the days through The Bloody Banquet, Heavensward and now the Telophori... and the final scene of Endwalker and the end of the original arc is that Alphinaud will make the ultimate sacrifice and become Zodiark's heart to re-balance the world, stopping the End of Days and ending the original Hydaelyn/Zodiark/Louisoix/Ascian storyline

I don't really see this, as Elidibus's balance he spoke of turned out to really be his own role as mediator for the convocation bleeding into everything he did, as he lost more and more of himself that core principle became something he clung ever tightly, Zodiark himself hasn't really done anything since the sundering, which is kind of the point, he's often blamed for a lot of things he's had no direct or even indirect part in, we've yet to even ascertain his motivations, if he even has any. The final days 2.0 are no more his doing than the first ones were, Danny boy and Zenos are kicking these ones off, and while his heart is "dead"/trapped, he's been separated from it and effectively in a coma for 12000 years, so pretty much nothing has changed for him.
I don't see them going out of their way to of all things need Zodiark to suddenly need his heart back, they'll likely either have them fuse, they'll both stick around, or both need to go or one of them might remain, though given parts of Zodiark are still technically sealed in the other shards, I'm not even sure if he can be destroyed in the traditional sense.

I feel like Anima is going to end up getting snuffed out sooner then later if it's the primal responsible for all the tower shenanigans, but I'm expecting it will also have already fulfilled its purpose of gathering aether to activate Fandaniel's "gate of the gods" and the Final Days will return in spite of its demise.

I’m leaning more and more towards this. I was super excited to have Hydaelyn supporting me and talking to me in the beginning, but as time went on I wasn’t very happy with her saying unhelpful things and/or playing Captain Obvious. While I could very much see them taking this path with the story, we need to remember the only one who called them Primal's called them, them "in terms you'd understand" really neither of them functions at all like what we've come to understand at as a Primal. Both exist and can take and be given aether, but neither simply drain the land of it by existing. As for tempering, while again, Emet says he's tempered he takes a lot of actions against the revival of his Primal so we don't even know what that means in relation to them, it certainly doesn't seem to mean the same thing it does for all the Primals we see today.
Outside of the name and the fact they were summoned, they don't really share anything with conventional Primals.

That's why I posited that one of them would remain, Zodiark being destroyed/sacrificing itself is kind of a big deal given he is still kind of bound to the planet so if he did make the ultimate sacrifice, Hydaelyn would then take his place as the will of the star, letting them both save the world.

But either way they take it, I was never too sold on the Primal bit in ShB, it always felt like a "yes, but no" kind of wow moment, Emet didn't lie but them being called Primals in the context he gave and given their creation magic feels moot, Primals are bad because of their limitations and tempering, both of which seem to be a mix of the races of today's limited ability to creation magic and deliberate Ascian chaos sewing, neither of witch effects Zodiark and Hydaelyn.

Scions' airship will break irreparably and later we will have to travel the usual way.

That’s fair. I admit I want to learn more about them before I go fight them.

Really, there are a few things from ShB I don’t yet get but would like to: exactly how the “super-primals” work; whether the star can get along without one; thinning aether, the extent to which it will affect the magic people are doing (if it’s giving freaking Matoya trouble, we need to be concerned), and how it can be fixed... and as long as I’m here, why the story starts all but yelling “DON’T WORRY BE HAPPY” at the point when it was just established you have a few minutes left before you shift and start killing people.

Okay so this is just a theory i contemplated recently but what if Fandaniel's real name is

Thanatos

It would fit with the Ascians having names based on the Greek Pantheon and Fandaniels ultimate plan being to kill everything, what with Thanatos being the god of death plus it would further tie in with Zenos being a reaper. They could also do a Secret of Mana reference with his final form perhaps even being fought in that Lapuda like zone as a callback to the fortress of mana.
