It's a shitty change, and it's even worse for the pre-70 Raids where there's no weekly lockout on items. Terrible idea.

I...do hope people "rolling for seals" realise they'll be holding onto this gear until like 4.5/4.6. You can't turn it in or desynth it until then.
Because separate changes require maintaining separate codebases. This has never, ever, worked out to be beneficial in any way. See NA versions of JP and KR games. It's always NA that gets the nerf bat.
That's why Korea and China versions are different. Korea and Chinese versions have government ID requirements and data storage requirements that can't be met if the game is isn't in their country. That is all. The problem with doing this is that it balkanizes the playerbase. Now in some cases this is a good thing. Players from Brazil and Russia tend to play on NA servers, and as a result have to know English to really play it. Players in China or Korea get their own localized version, but are behind in patches or even have nerfed content due to government rules.
The minute JP balkanizes from the NA/EU base, is the minute NA ends up being a P2W wasteland.
Selective variations on portions of the game that don't have complex interactions with other pieces of content is fine. See: Blizzard games like Diablo 3 offering certain different models in order to be sold in China, or certain games censoring particularly violent content in order to be sold in countries like Germany.
We're not talking about job mechanics or server-client communication or things like that. It's a component of the game code that literally goes untouched for years at a time once it's set in place, just like a particular model's textures. They could easily implement different policies across different data centres.
Got healer boots today. The summoner who kept dying and standing out of range of heals also rolled on them. I was pretty disgusted by that. Even though I won them I got really annoyed that someone who doesn't even know the basic range of aoe healing and didn't play a healer had the same priority on the boots as I do.
What the hell is wrong with giving prio to the role the gear is for? Wtf are SE thinking with this stupid loot change...
So many players saying they're done tanking this, but not enough of them since I had a wait time as tank...
My first run went pretty well. Had some wipes on the robot but we did it in the end. About 3 or 4 pieces dropped to the floor so I guess people can afford to be picky. I won a melee dps piece (legs?) on the last boss over someone else who wasn't on that job. A tank piece was taken by someone who wanted it (I didn't) and 5 people rolled on a SAM chest.
yea, i just lost my tank armor to a healer.
im not doing any raid till this shit get fixed
I don't understand what 'problem' they were trying to solve here. A FC mate explained that the JP like to run as their best geared class because that is 'more polite' and want to be able to get loot for other classes, but doesn't it follow that they could just use the 'polite' option and announce they are interested in lotting on gear and would the other players pass? Or better yet, create a party finder then they can have the loot rules beforehand. The greed button was already there for all players that agreed to use it.
I just don't see what the actual problem was with being able to lot on gear for the class you are running on. Again SE makes a forced change that creates a really hostile environment for no good reason.
Flawed logic if this is SE's reasoning. It's hardly polite to roll on gear when you haven't the courtesy to even play as a class that can equip it.
Certainly not polite in the case of the summoner in my alliance who kept dying because they constantly stood far beyond the limits of aoe healing but rolled on healing gear despite clearly demonstrating they're clueless about the role. Polite my a**.
I hate it. Finally had a piece of gear drop for my monk that i've been waiting for months to win and lose to someone who is going to turn it in for seals. Great change SE...
You are right. I spoke ignorantly from a place of frustration. I just wish that we could find some happy medium to satisfy both sides instead of constantly being set aside, as this isn't the first time the developers have specified Japanese player preferences as the reason why certain mechanics were changed without considering the NA or EU side of the coin.
No matter the loot method, they really should let people buy this gear with the weekly coin and give us a choice between upgrading tome gear and bypassing RNG in alliance raids. That way those who don't have tome gear to upgrade on their main can catch up to 260 easier and others have an option to boost their alts more or buy glamours.
So, consideringh augmented crafted gear exist and that you don't really need to HQ the craft either or craft it yourself, plus the non weekly locked thing......why 24 man raids gear exist at all? and why the loot changes?
If they roll on stuff they probably want it.
I also never understood that reasoning. So if someone does not even feel good to play other jobs in the 24 man raid..then how big is the chance that they suddenly play other jobs in raid or extreme trials? Because thats also not polite right? So why do they even need that gear? Do they feel the need to gear up every single job they play even if they dont use it? And if that is the case, why not gear them up with dungeon drops or older stones? Or like you say make up a party finder or just ask for pieces? (Or just simply hope that they won the greed roll)
So dear SE, the OP has over 250 likes, which is probably one of the most highest recent liked post in this forum and people are already losing stuff to others in the first week...please change it back! (And no dont wait till the next patch for this x_x)
The 'logic' behind it was to make sure that the run is as smooth as possible, they will do it as their most geared class. So then they can't roll need on an off-class's equipment, but I don't even understand this in these group dungeons. By the time you have geared that main class, aren't you already using the tomes that rain from the sky to work on the off class?
To me the whole thing is stupid and just another toxic solution to a something that wasn't a problem in the first place. Same as letting people 'choose' whether they want a fresh run in a 'random' dungeon or will 'allow' themselves to be queued into a partially completed one. It increases queue times, it causes content to not get completed, and in the end I'm starting to think that SE just doesn't actually want us playing this game anymore. So now I will only do the 24 man once for completion, I won't do the story alliance roulettes anymore because of the cutscene change in those, I barely touch dungeons anymore because the queue times are out of this world...so, mission accomplished?
I guess they just want us all to be crafters and play an economy mmo.
Rolled in last night, actually needed the tank chest piece that dropped, and was playing tank. While I got it thanks to people letting me greed roll it I had a sudden realization in the frustration this is going to bring. I rolled in as a Tank, took the responsibility of MT through the entire lock out, and still had to beg for my own gear drop.
Not a fan at all. I give it the second week before the curtesy wears off and any other tank pieces I'll need are going to become more frustrating to get.
I got a tank piece last night, while healing, only because I was grouped with the tank and knew he didn't need it. If he did and I took away an upgrade? That would suck.
This system is a dumpster fire.
On any raid whose gear is no more reasonable to wear for the ilevel but used for seals, glamour, anything else, everyone can use it that way.
So, greed for all is ok.
And on latest raid, when gear still matters for the ilevel, in a raid with ONE FULL WEEK LOCKOUT on the item, I doubt someone will roll for a piece he doesn't care much.
Keep in mind, this change seems to not be liked by the Japanese side of the forums either in it's current iteration. People seem to be calling for tokens or increased loot drops from every chest if SE is going to buckle down on Greed. Because it sucks.

Y'all can translate more if you want.
P.S. I used to heal Alliance raids all the time because I used Alliance to gear my healers. Got my healer top on a DPS instead outrolling both the other healers. Feels a little bad but, just using the system as intended. I hope they see that top within the next 20 or so runs.
Took a character of mine on a alliance roulette for tomes and the kind, and had gotten Rabanaste.
At the final boss, the healer pants dropped, which was a decent upgrade from Skallic pants at the time and would've saved me some tomes for other pieces. The other healer didn't needed them, so I rolled.
Freakin' Summoner took them.
They said in patch notes that if Greed Only wasn't well received, they would remove it.
So... yeah, we played it.
It's not good. Nobody likes it. Some people will say they don't care but no one actually LIKES the change.
When will the game be rid of this feature?
I don't like the greed option, too. For old content like Void Ark or Crystal Tower I might be okay with it, but they really need to change it for current content. It is terrible for all ppl who play this with their main jobs and need the loot. Pls SE, give us back the need option for current content or give the option for get gear with totems.
I don't mind the greed option if they would make it so people cannot roll again on items they already have, I'M LOOKING AT YOU TRIPLE TRIAD CARDS.
Glamour exist and is probably a big reason why quite some people even still run the older raids..but now its even harder for those because next to having no weekly limit that will stop people from rolling on all gear, they can now not even count on the need button..so its also really bad for older raids. And for the newest, just read the last page or last two pages and you will see that people rolling on stuff they dont need right now and people losing it that needed it as an upgrade is already happening.
4 runs of Rabanastre today, won lot once out of 32 drops. I should just stop running this content.
Rabanastre loot also NPCs for quite a lot.. which means probably everyone is going to roll to do the donation "content".. good luck getting anything from there I guess.
Not a fan of this system. Lost out on a pair of boots that were a great upgrade for me to the tank... and the tank doesn't even have a MNK or SAM leveled at all, so he can't even use them.
Terrible system and if their intent was to get people to run it more well they failed. I just recently started up my sub a week from 4.3 after taking a few months off, bought three months straight and I already feel ripped off. I'm now a casual, no hardcore raids even though I pugged through deltascape to V4S farm in 4.1. With enough time in a day to really play for 2 hrs, if I have the time, Ridorana was gonna make the bulk of my gameplay since I love FFXII, FFT and the lore but after going through it twice I just rolled on something I can use and now I'm done. Luckily I got the Vaan chest after two runs but after seeing how this game now punishes you for playing a class you like by not allowing you to "NEED" on equipment you need then I just feel like SE is treating me like cattle instead of a customer.
I feel like they have no regard to the gamer and their personal time by adding such egregious RNG and "fluff" content to keep them hooked on an otherwise pretty meh patch with the 4.2-4.4 gear being pretty ugly in my opinion. I guess I'm just tired of being in a group of 8 and seeing double drops for brd or nin when there isn't one in our party. Needless to say this patch woke me up to how SE is cutting content from their games and unfortunately I wasted almost $60 CAD on a game. They clearly learned nothing from Dissida NT, which I thankfully canceled my pre-order after I found out they removed Gabranth.
This system is just bad. People who don't play that long or just returned get kicked in the butt with that.
My husband the ONLY bard in the group rolled a 1 on the bard chest and lost them to another player. Why did you put something into the game that a small minority of players wanted. I have been playing this game since ARR and just based on principle this is not a great decision and has me question your logic.
Hotfix this now!
I hate this system. I want to see a riot and hope they see how stupid this is and change it back in the next small patch.
I have a feeling they might bring back the “old rule” back by next week.
Finger crossed but not gonna count on it.
This is a ridiculous solution to a "problem" that didn't exist, made worse by creating a plethora of new, actual problems at the same time. It's tough to hit a double like that, but somehow SE found a way.
I ran the content as the only BRD in the party. I passed on all of the stuff I don't want or need. Last boss drops a BRD chest piece. I rolled a 1, got beat by someone else who rolled a 4. Womp womp. I can't imagine how many versions of this story are out there, none of them positive or encouraging. I really hate this "feature" already and am struggling to think of any pros.
I'm only going to run Ridorana once a week because of this, don't care if I don't get anything and lose out on my one weekly lot. It was already a huge pain just to hope an item for my class even dropped in a reasonable amount of runs.
Maybe if they increased the number of drops per chest and deleted the dumb belts from the loot table, then maybe you could make a change like this. But making zero positive changes and one big negative change means an overall worse experience, so no thank you.
