Can we get modern english translation?

In the end, I'm not even entirely sure what you are hoping to accomplish with your pointless tirades. The person your complaint should be directed towards, Koji Fox, is the second in command of lore development for the series beneath Oda. To suggest the changes he makes are errors born of ignorance of the source material is a rather foolish position to take.

I dislike the old text. I understand what they say, but I do not like it. I hate it, to me its bothersome to read. This is my opinion. Why must I like something that someone else likes? Can I dislike a fictional characters dialogue? Or must I say oh well these people likes how these fictional characters talk and I must accept it and go with this and deal with this dialogue without complaint? Im fine if you like it, but accept the fact I don't like it and I'd rather have just regular English as an option. How does old speak or what ever benefit me in any way? I work at a factory doing hard manual labor. Im not some desk jockey pushing papers or stocking shelves or some actor or some burger flipper. Im in a very hot factory doing hard manual labor with machinery.

(English Translated to old ye language) Thou art powerless to silence us, mortal. Yet thou shalt not live to labor in vain. Thy reprieve is at an end.


(Japanese translated to English) As Ishgard doesn't want to repent, my child and their people will not delay the retribution. The land shall burn, their people shall die, the justice will be done.

The bottom line to me sounds so much cooler and just imo more welcomed.

I hope not. The time and money needed to do two English translations is better spent elsewhere.

where else could it be spent its not like the lore team is creating models and working directly with the coding in this game... considering how much money this game makes a month you really think they are hurting that bad they can't give 2 language options for users speaking english

How can they be different if they were never translated. This is what you're not getting. Its the simple fact that parts of the script were completely left out, and in some cases completely altered to the point that it doesn't even match the original. At that point you can't even call it a translation.

The English translation isn't an exact, word for word, but it doesn't leave out anything important either. I get the feeling that you probably know just enough Japanese to be dangerous. The main issue I noticed with the reddit link is that whoever translated it was doing so line for line and wasn't taking into account that Japanese sentence order is reversed compared to English. A lot of the complaints about them not matching up were silly since the info was included in a different "line".

Suffice it to say, the English translation provides all the information, just expressed differently than the literal translation.

I lived in Japan for several years. Its safe to say I'm pretty fluent in the language. That said, no the english translation did not provide enough information. Its not even a matter of being expressed differently. The way it was translated in english isn't even coherent to the story. Thank goodness I play in Japanese audio.

Living in Japan =/= gaining fluency. I live in Japan currently and have been for about a decade. I'm married to a Japanese woman as well. And I can tell you from experience that simply living here doesn't do anything to help your Japanese fluency. That only comes with active practice and study... which is easier if you're in Japan than somewhere else, certainly, but does not make it a forgone conclusion.

Measuring contest aside, you're wrong. The English translation provides all pertinent information and doesn't leave anything important out. Some things are expressed in an older style of English speech, so perhaps that's where you're getting confused? Or perhaps, like the Reddit poster, you are confused by the fact that Japanese sentence order is reversed.
