Oh i'm sure us Highlanders are going to get a lot more popular for the first few months of Stormblood, It's just a shame that there's only really 2.5 races that aren't tiny little girls.

Main reason why this will never happen is because what you ask for is Viera from FFXII and what you will get instead is a human body with rabbit ears and a rabbit tail.

You wont get the Viera from FFXII because that would be extra work for dev team when it comes to making the gear. They would always have to make gear specifically for Viera i.e changing the feat and the hands.

I'm ok with that.

So then why not just make a third clan of Hyur who have the exact same features a Viera have in XII, sans the rabbit bits. That way it potentially appeals to more people (particularly those who do not want permanent animal accessories).

I'd prefer it to be its own race with different facial features and unique lore. I also mentioned how I would like this viera race to have one short clan and one tall clan (like midlanders and highlanders). Although I wouldn't really complain if the viera females were taller than male vieras, like how au ra females are shorter than their male counterparts.

Rarely see Viera depictions with ears down. Something i think can be taken advantage of not needing a large overhaul of head gear ect...

Then I don't think you are asking for Viera. You are asking for a unique eorzean race that somewhat shares charactaristics of Viera. You want an amazonian race (perhaps with smaller males) that have rabbit ears, which is not all that Viera is. Under your logic you would be fine with Viera having a different aestheric to ivalice viera (like the difference between ivalice moogles and regular moogles), a different name, and a completely different background within the world (they could be technologically advanced with their own city in 5.0, or allagan creations with a sci-fi theme). However, considering your title is "Viera as the next new race", I don't think that is what you are implying, and if they did make Viera as something completely different, people would complain (not me though, you are asking for what I want, which is an original race).

I don't really care what this race would be called. I would be interested in what kind of lore this new race would have in ffxiv. I call them viera because it's just easier referring to them that way.

Fair enough, but those two images doesn't represent the entirety of what makes up a race. The final product, while it will resemble those images, will have lore, regional aesthetic, and in engine modifications. The process from concept to finish is lengthy and a lot changes in the process. My fear is that you are pitching this as "wanting Viera" and the final product will be nothing like Viera, and thus people complain that it isn't "their Viera". As it is, that is a concept for what is now Au ra.

Just remember that concept art doesn't mean a whole lot. Take Au Ra concept art for example. Started off looking pretty cool and then they were reduced to bland humanoids... but with horns and tails, oooooh.

Elezen
Roegadyn
Hyur
Lalafel
and Miqo'te art turned out almost the same

The only exception is au ra. Remember that just like Lalafel/Roegadyn the viera have a previous version that they just copy/make more human. So the transition is more like galka/roegadyn than au ra art to game.

I just completely ruled out the "viera art" won't be like how it is in game.

I'll never leave roegadyn (they're the cutest race) but I'd love to make a viera alt!

Probably because most of them are humans with slight adjustments here and there (remove the ears from the Miqo'te and you have a Midlander. The Elezen neck also appears to be shorter in that art, or I'm being thrown off by the gear he's wearing). The concept art for Viera that we've seen shows them with feet that no other race has, which means SE will either have to chop those feet off and replace them with normal human feet, or redesign every piece of foot gear (which would annoy Roegadyn, Miqo'te and Au Ra. Most gear on Roegadyn is stretched and looks bad. Miqo'te and Au Ra tails clip through everything. Au Ra horns clip through head gear). The same may have to apply to their hands in some way as well.

Then there's the whole issue with their ears.

We've lived with those issues with au ra/miqo'te. Those won't change just because they add viera. It's an issue we have to accept. The only thing that won't be like the viera art are the feet and that's ok. Galka didn't make it with tails to FFXIV. Missing 1 thing isn't going to cause a calamity.

Galka are also called Roegadyn in this game and can come in female flavour (that was actually new and different). Will the 'Viera' (if they ever be a thing) still be called Viera? or something completely different?

It is MORE of a concern for Viera. Any original race can be whatever it wants to be because it doesn't have any standards to live up to. People looked at Au ra and went "cool, the new race is lizard people with goku hair", if Viera isn't announced, half the people will go "yay viera!" and half the people will go "thats not what Viera is supposed to be", and as I have learnt, if there is anything where existing standards exist, not everyone will be happy (triple triad is a prime example). This applies to all existing races that they may want to implement.

Those races represent the MMO archetypes of final fantasy MMOs, you can be human, cat-person, elf, giant, or gnome. There is variety there, and they just used the same template for 1.0 as they did in XI (remember that these jobs were designed in 1.0 when the game was more of a sequel to XI), so the argument is different. Viera is literally taking an iconic race from final fantasy lore and implementing it into the game, its not an archetype, it is a reference.

Mithra =/= miqote, mithra = animal-girl archetype = miqote

It really doesn't matter what your expectations for viera are to me. The only difference between XII viera and XIV viera would be different feet. A calamity won't happen because of that. And that's the last time I'll repeat that since at this point there's no arguing against that. That would be the only major difference. Au ra had no creation of them before, they're the exception. Using au ra as an example can't be used ever again.

I would rather just have hybrids of current races, like Hyur/Kitties Lala/Kitties or something. Would make more sense then a sudden influx of rabbit people.

I don't care if they implement viera, I don't care how they implement viera, but if they make a race that is only linked to viera by virtue of having rabbit ears then that is not viera, that is a unique race that has taken inspiration from Viera. When you have a thread that is titled "Viera as the new race", you are going to get people that want very different things, and stepping on the toes of something as iconic as Viera (read: the FFXI races aren't iconic, they are formulaic - i.e. elvaan = elf, mithra = cat-girl, hume = human, and even then, they are very different from races in XIV) will cause complaints from those who had a clear vision in their head of what "Viera" means to them, I'm just calling the community out before that happens.

That's what I said. I hope they do a good job. I can't pretend I know the limitations SE has when creating a new race, but we may have to compromise for normal human hands and feet. I am ok with this.

If they can only do human hands and feet, then why not nix the rabbit ears as well and just make them a third clan of Elezen? Would probably appeal to more people who want to play as an Elezen without an awkwardly long neck (maybe even push them out of the second most unpopular race spot, since elves tend to be the most played races in games, from what I've heard).

Elezen and their predecessors Elvaan, while similar were introduced as a proud people strong of arm and faith of their militaristic way of life (almost to the point of arrogant). Bound by their views of honor and duty, so it was with San 'd Oria so it is was Ishgard.

Viera have been portrayed as guarded, secretive, wise, proud, in tune with nature, and fierce warriors both elegant and deadly. In terms of lore they share more in common with the Seedseers than anyone else. In my head i see them living in the Twelves Wood almost in a pocket dimension destroyed by the calamity now secreted in the West Shroud, inaccessible to all, but for upper echelons of Grindanian forces. However this dose not mean they cannot come from other lands (my theory was made before my own knowledge of Hydaelyn was expanded).

I have my own additions to the Elezen roster as it is (Half Elezen Hyur+Elezen already supported as possible by in game story lore), and feel Viera can and should stand as it's own race. They could represent the possibility for a more docile or petite build for males and a taller more athletic but still graceful look for females (something terribly handled with Au Ra that could be fixed with simply adding new tribes as options).

That's kinda describing elves in fantasy fiction. "Post-Tolkien fantasy elves (popularized by the Dungeons & Dragons role-playing game) are often portrayed as being wiser and more beautiful than humans, with sharper senses and perceptions as well. They are said to be gifted in magic, mentally sharp and lovers of nature, art, and song. They are often skilled archers. A hallmark of many fantasy elves is their pointed ears."

So what that boils down to is you JUST want the ears. If thats the case, why don't SE just add Viera ears as a glamour option for existing jobs (and maybe a fran hairstyle that could potentially cover the ears), that way you can be a roe or elezen with Viera ears, and look like fran. This would save a hell of a lot of resources, and if you request THIS then you are far more likely to get it.

Aye, they do indeed fit the bill as you say, they very much are in place of "post-Tolkien fantasy elves" i would hazard to claim that our current Elezen do not, and as such a Viera race could fill that niche.

They have been represented as a unique people, with unique beliefs and culture. Why can they not be a race unto themselves? So many times people claimed they wanted more "bestial" races, only to say they didn't want to play them only have them as lore sinks. Unlike that proposal people would play Viera, they shouldn't have to share emotes character model rigging with any of the existing races or for that matter be a sub race to any aswell. Such a thing would only limit additions that could be added to current race selection (more tribes. sub races, expanded character creation/ customization, ect...).

I do not want Viera with Miqo 'te/ Elezen movement sets/ emotes, i would like them to have not only their own movement to convey their personality but also their own lore not shared with current race options. Again it's about subtlety, the way female Hyur Midlanders run matters to people, he cute playful nature of Miqo 'Te is paramount for others, still there are those that hate the pre-pubescent Midlander male and want to look the part of an adult male human, it's the whole reason i chose Highlander male. Then you have the potato people...

I will not speak for all, for my own part I want Viera to be as the concept art denotes, as a unique race.
