Hey, it helps me stand in light and glory.. In Idyllshire
Only if they remove weekly lockouts, else it is just a time sink. And in this case it's actually doable, because if you killed it once in a static, there are no issues to kill it again.

Yeah i'm pretty much done with this game myself. Has nothing new to offer but the same old grind. I can't even make anymore friends in this cus they all have left because of the same reasons the OP said. I called it at release of 2.0 that the game wasn't complex enough to keep players interested in playing for long periods. Patches didn't have enough content cus players we're clearing it too fast cus it wasn't complex enough.
Its quite clear that they aren't working on the patches on the game as much as they should be, but instead investing all their man power on working on getting the next expansion pack out each year. Most of there fans come from XI and they basically toss them to the side. (We stayed around 1.0 so you guys would still have jobs to make ARR.)
I can't believe I just read that. And I know I said I wasn't going to reply, but I'll exit and just leave this here for you guys that apparently don't recall 1.0.

I feel the same as you I predicted this long time ago and made some posts on forum saying that this game didn't have enough content but new players couldn't understand because they were still leveling up and that was keeping them busy.
I see a lot of people leaving the game and very few of them actually stay, of all the people I invited in my FC a lot of them quit and never came back to the game because it wasn't pulling their interest or wasn't fun enough.
I agree but also don't think Uematsu is the kinda guy that would slave over the music remix table for each patch of the game. I do think they should get Uematsu to make more tracks though for the game. I think they aren't because they want the young guy to have a music career & maybe there is some kinda music rights ownership on how they are selling the music discs.
Sigh..you never give up do you? 1.x was a fun game.. aside from the bad server lag/coding it was not that bad and was getting fun.
1.0 YES that was launched with nothing..but when Yoshida took over and Tanaka was still at SE advising stuff and they had the XI dev team..1.23 was a lovely game. I myself started playing 1.0 launch...there was nothing to do so I stopped playing. When I saw the Ifrit patch I thought it looked amazing..1.19, I came back and was having fun every day till the servers went down.
Then 2.0 launched and I see they totally changed the battle system, all my hard earned relic stats were gone, and worst of all my earring from Van Darnus fight was garbage. That was the day nearly all my 1.x friends quit. They went back to XI and have been there ever since.
I agree..I am in the same spot. Like I mentioned in another thread..my main account is only subbed because my friends are paying for it and I am helping them fill a raid spot for now. I can't bring myself to continue to support this game which offers the same old system, same patches reskinned. :( I want to say it'll turn out good or get better but who am I kidding, we are 3 years in now and nothing really has changed at all. All my 1.x friends left so... ._.
FFXIV 1.0 went out extremely quickly cause of Wada who is, luckily, gone.
Terrible servers and the PS3-oriented UI interface aside, I'd never trade 1.0 for ARR. FFXIV 1.0 was the spiritual successor of FFXI everyone been part of that game was waiting for, with one of the greatest OST ever, killed by the server lag and the CEO itself. The feeling of adventure the game had, the feeling of battle and the overall quality gap between 1.0 and ARR is just too huge.
All the people do in ARR is glamour, there's no point for the rest. And yes I am a raider in A8S. I keep raiding because it's the very small hardcore side of the game which gives us basically almost zero rewards.
I've read every page of this thread, and it has to be one of the most asinine things I've ever seen.
Having a history of hardcore gameplay in MMO's such as EQ, FFXI, and even WoW, I can clearly see who's doing this complaining. It's the 8 hours a day players who are looking for this "deeper more involved content" here.
First off, Iromi, I could go back and actually quote your old posts, but I don't really feel like it. In this thread alone you've explained how you've done everything in this game. All while attending college full time and working full time along side a boyfriend who allegedly has the same responsibilities as you. Let's be clear here, there's no need to lie about your out of game activitites.. just be honest. you have played A LOT of FFXIV and have done it all, and that's fine. There's no need to make it sound like the game is SO EASY that ANYONE with a few hours and some determination can complete everything. They can't. So, yea.
Back to the topic at hand... There are many, like myself, who have done the hardcore. For people like myself, the middle of the road difficulty or even outright easy difficulty for some content works just fine. I'm offered enough challenge to keep myself interested (Nidhogg, Mcach), and enough busy work to enjoy myself until the next 3.x. This game, from what I can tell, was never meant to be your FFXI. It's not meant to be your WoW, It's certainly not meant to be your EQ. it's FFXIV:ARR, and it's trying to fit it's own niche.
It has content for crafters, gatherers, RPers, Casuals, Hardcores, and those inbetween. It has an involved FF story arc, and it requires you complete it. It tries to cater mostly to people like myself - those that love FF and are happy to play in a Theme Park MMO that idolizes it. It's supposed to be accessible. It's SUPPOSED to be doable.
If the developers wanted to cater to those hardcores that want to feel like their time was valued, they likely would have already. It's been years thus far. They haven't. Hardcores are given some content that they do complete. To ask them to fundamentally change the game (ilvl jumps, stat distribution, and / or item effects for longevity)so you can feel special is futile.
In short, that's what not what FFXIV:ARR was ever supposed to be. You had some fun in 2.0 and up, there was content there that made you feel special. I'm sorry if you don't today and are tired of the formula. If you're looking for games that have what you want, then listen to what other people say - PLAY THOSE GAMES! They exist BTW. Try some Dark Souls for difficulty. Maybe play EVE online, with unrelenting and punishing space piracy and cutthroat PvP. You could play WoW for your raid focus content... or even go back to the old games, like FFXI or even emulated old school EQ.
Don't try to change FFXIV to something it was never intended to be. It will never work.
no, I was saying you were acting obtuse because you threw out march 10 like every raider was showered with rewards that day. Most raiders in this game are easily 1-3 months behind world 1st groups. Even citing march 10th as something that addresses the majority of the raiding community, or whats left of it, is being obtuse.
If you want to speak on functunality, functionally, most raiders don't clear content at the same pace of world first raiders. Functionally, mentioning march 10th is pointless.
Lastly, the only reward that stands out from midas is the raid weapon. So, no, I was not talking about a7s.
Just because there will be players that can't do it, does not mean that adding raid ilvl accessories would not be a good idea. If anything, putting more low hanging fruit in the raid end game will encourage more active participation in challenging fights.Quote:
To further expound on your point that Extreme Trials should drop BiS rings and other accessories, let's use your aforementioned skill gate. Not everyone is good enough to beat that content. Smaller population servers are sometimes even further at a detriment due to condensation of skill to particular groups of players, and while that is somewhat being addressed through the Raid Finder function SE just implemented, it would still point to your big gripe that my point about being better and obtaining said best items is "obtuse." See how you literally just used a bunch of words to make the same point I made while trying to inflate your argument while being needlessly inflammatory? Great. The thing is, there is best gear in the game. And the sooner you obtain it, the longer it lasts. That's an empirical fact.
If your point is "there is a skill gate so it would be a bad idea", then I disagree with your point. It worked great for the first three EX primals and it would work great again with any trial.
As for that "emprical fact" how about we look at progression functionally rather than using world first groups as your standard. Functionally, raid rewards are poor when most raiders don't get a full clear of the raid until after that catch up patch drops. IE most midas clear came around the time the latest patch was about to come out or a little after it came out.
Which only serves to highlight how pointless investing in any of these activities seems. Functionally, all the rewards in this game are so standardized that nothing feels rewarding anymore. Got a 240 weapon? Big woop, just wait utnil the next patch when you can get a free 250 weapon. Got a 240 BiS chest piece from a8s? No worries, in 2.4 there will be a crafted chest that replaces it immediately even before the new alex progression starts.Quote:
We now have access to the i240 Anima, which can be grinded out through esos and about ten different methods for obtaining sands, the i240 Lore, upgradable through weekly rewards from the Mhach and Void Ark Raid, and through the use of Allied Seals which are those open world hunts I've been hearing so much about.
Nope, I don't have to do any of that, I got my gear, It was unsatisfying. The only thing I am missing is my midan weapon, which is what? A 4% performance gain on average? WHOOO HOOO can't wait to take that 4% performance upgrade and watch it get thrown into the garbage when Midas BiS is obliterated by the next set of crafted battle class gear.Quote:
They did release the highest ilvl in 3.2. It was locked behind the hardest content in the game. If you can't beat it, then you have to wait until they alleviate it with separate solutions, which they did in 3.3 with the tokens I'm casual content. If you weren't Raiding Savage, you've had either your i230 Lore weapon, your i230 Anima weapon, the i220 Sephirot, or the i210 Eso. Depending on which, I'd say that speaks to some longevity.
This game has been unsatisfying, and as I said earlier in this thread, I am done subbing to this game. Keep defending the status quo, the last handful of you will really enjoy yourselves.
You don't have to play this game 8 hrs a day to stay current, at all. You are generating this imaginary raider to plop your argument on top of and it's just not the reality of the situation. And no, there is no content offered to players that are between hardcore and casual, none. There is no real midtier end game. There is just an amalgamation of fights (midas) where the progression curve started off bimodal with an exponential tail. The content is this game either flops or is old after a month of play. The only staying power is in the savage raid which is poorly supported. SE seems to have zero ability to foster a raiding comminity in this game, you only need to look at your average server to get an idea of how poorly raiding is doing in this game.
and that's why hardcore players have been leaving the game in droves since heavenward. Don't worry, we got the hint, we are headed to greener pastures, you guys can have this glamour RP hello kitty grind fest of an MMO>Quote:

The forums exist for players to provide feedback. That's whats happening here. Don't try to change the purpose of the forums only to say not the change the game. Makes you come off as a hypocrite.Quote:

This. XIV feels like a glamour infested game now. I mean ffs...we are getting PET GLAMOUR. Not real pets with different abilities, a perfect chance to add some depth. Naw...why do that we can just have glamour.
I actually saw someone suggest BLM spell glamour in another thread....its just really sad lol.
There is 0 open world group content and nothing to explore, world never feels dangerous and there is no need for groups. Its all enter dungeon > get your tomes/gear with same stats with a higher number > leave.
Then we have dailies..which feels like a chore list.
Edit: ROFL LIE ABOUT MY OUTSIDE GAME ACTIVITIES?? LOL!!! You are saying my BF does not attend NYU Tandon..and I am not an actor...OMG LOL TOO FUNNY!!! What shall I do, post his student ID...hahahah! Post my acting resume with my phone # and address and head shot? omggg I am dying here. You know me SOOO well and know me IRL and totes know I am lying! omg I got to show my friends this they are going to die..just when I said..enough is enough with being called names, accused of stuff and bullied...now apparently I am lying about my IRL.
Let me make it priority number one to prove to some random dude on the internet my real life activities. But its okay, I am used to hate, I am used to this kind of treatment..lol. May you show me proof that you know my BF IRL name and mine and that I have never been on off broadway plays here in NYC, commercials, and such? And how he is not attending NYU tandon..and our game activity..oh man..these people on these forums..smh.
Thing is Yoshi-P is an ENIX man, not Squaresoft.
Hiromichi Tanaka (FFXI and XIV 1.0 director) was part of Squaresoft in the golden age, reason why we had Uematsu for FFXIV itself, they were preserving the original team.
And yeah, Uematsu should work on the whole OST (4.0). I hope he will.
Hello, please post with your main if you must, because right now I can't take you seriously with the character you posted saying you did hardcore and that you cleared nidhogg EX with that character, thanks.
If you are a new FFXIV player instead, I can see why you don't see the issues.
Yoshi said that they aren't willing to take that kinda risk to change the game. Whats gonna happen is the player that raid will all leave and they will get rid of savage to cater to there only player base. Kinda like what happened with XI Seekers of Adoulin, Players left for XIV and noone could do raids so they added NPC party members instead of fixing the main problem. (A better graphical FF has came out, its time for you to upgrade your graphics.)
Tanka was one of the founders/been there since day one as a young adult. Think sometime after the first 2 FF's he was the director for FF3.
Be nice if he joined Mistwalker & they actually got around to making a game good as FF. Lost Odd is nice but I hate xbox XD.
Oh I am not sure which quote you quoted me in..but yes he says that a lot. Risk taking is not something we do much around here >.> I remember what happened in Seekers..that was not good. Like I said, I enjoyed XI but even I can admit it had its downfalls..for sure. ^^
Oh ya I've seen plenty of people say they feel the game is going in that direction. I agree. I played Lotro also and am getting a similar vibe..lol
After having 0 hype for 4.0 due to all the um..unfulfilled promises from 3.0 , can't say I really care. When 4.0 is released I will read the patch notes and decide if I am playing then :x
Actually I know this person... and you really shouldnt go assuming things you clearly dont understand, the fact of the matter is what Iromi says is true and ill back it 150%. Just because you dont know how to balance your priorities doesnt mean this game is perfect as is, I like the game but it has a lot of work that is needed
Going off topic a bit, Lost Odyssey was lovely, same goes for the Last Story. We starting to see Sakaguchi around Square-Enix though, finally. That's thanks to Bravely Default (with Akihiko Yoshida as designer, same 1.0 had) which sold -a lot-, showing SE the right way to keep.
I am Setsuna is just the beginning, with XV -gone- already all the hype goes on XVI and I really hope Ito (aka FF9/FF12 director with Matsuno) will lead the game.
I really hope those new vibes will reach FFXIV and/or the next FF online game.
I feel like the real problem with 3.0 is that they hyped it up too much. "We want players to feel like it's a whole new game." However, that choice of words didn't reflect what we got. We got a slightly better version of 2.0. What SE has a problem with right now is execution. They have lofty goals of what the game "should be", but they've stopped factoring how players really are, and that's killed the game this expansion. Maybe 4.0 will be better, maybe it won't. In either event, I believe many people have your attitude. "I'll wait and see what they do, and if I don't like it I'm gone." That is the right attitude to have, but maybe we, as a community, are setting the game up for a big failure if the developers can't get their execution right out of the gate for this one.
Yup, basically! They hyped it up too much and went way over the top..so when it came out it just didn't add up. That is the exact approach I am taking, maybe it will be good maybe not, and yeap...as of right now I am pretty uninterested in the direction the game is going so what more can I say :( If they hear us they hear us..if not then so be it!
Yeap, suggesting people to unsub is a great idea *sarcasm* haha. Eventually we will have no one left lol. Cuz as I said earlier..people unsub and they dont come back :x Once the influx of new people runs out (and it will) then we will see...I've already seen a steady decline in subs from the lucky bancho thing on reddit, not saying omagad gaem dying!!! But..last time he took it there a 100k drop, and even more so massive drop in who completed the story. Only 300k people completed the 3.2 story (I think that was last time he took it)
Sorry to say but if you consider Mhach and Nidhogg challenging content you're not a raider, therefor you're missing the point of this thread and shouldn't be calling yourself hardcore either.
It was never meant to be XI, but seems to me a copy paste of the WoW formula, do you see where WoW went? It's where this game is going because they are following the same formula, WoW worked back then because it was Unique, not the first MMO but did so many things well that if it was today and considering how many more people have internet these days it could have double the subs, FFXIV is trying to be the new WoW but they didn't understand yet that WoW isn't WoW anymore, but a shadow of a once amazing game from what i've seen.
I've predicted Aion and TERA future and people laughed at me on the forums, a few months later they went F2P, while i don't see this game going F2P, not because it won't get into such state, because it can, but because i'd see Square preferring to shut it down than turning it into F2P, even XI is still sub based and how many players does it have? There's a good example why this game won't go F2P, but no way it'll be in good shoes either.
Actually, I've completed 3.2 story two days before 3.3. I don't really like reading those walls of text, and I had all 3.2 dungeons\trials unlocked without doing all 3.2 story to the end. Had to do it before 3.3 of course to not have my static wait for me for nidhogg.
I came back sometime recently and my free company has hollowed out with just 5-7 active players left, the leader citing lack of content each patch as his reason for not coming back and /randoming lead to another fc member. He's playing granblue fantasy now apparently. It didn't take long before i was back to the F2P esque repeat everyday incentives model from 2.0. Only now they've expanded it into every facet of the game x.x battle content, gathering, crafting, daily quests. I'm hoping deep dungeons will keep me going as i loved Nyzul isle in XI, it's excruciating waiting for it to come out.
This is the big thing for me as well. With things like new jobs (in comparison to the fact that we got ninja during the 2.x series), MCH (and by the same context, BRD) feels like a shell-out of what htye had intially previewed. FC crafting is anything but, and in general the expansion itself hasn't set a lot of framework that allows for better implementation. Airship exploration has been beaten enough, we still don't have much of FC activties, and things like summoner glamours and GC rank expansions have been put in back burners for quite a while now (looking at 3.4 which is over half the expansion's timeframe)
Would people be against the dev team coming out and saying "Enough with the holy trinity, we don't need to copy WoW 100% this is a Final Fantasy game"
And then they added to it so we have Tanks, Healers, DPS and support classes! I always thought the game would be better and maybe have a bit more depth if hypothetically party set up was like this
1/1/1/1
1 Tank = Paladin
1 Healer = White Mage
1 DPS = Dragoon
1 Support = Time Mage
or would be now be hearing stuff like "Time Mages shouldn't DPS!" ???
The game would have to undergo lots of coding and balancing so it will never happen most likely but I always assumed the 4 party dungeons were a little nod to how party set up was in the older games where you would have a healer and a support class with you.
The problem with having a support role is that they;d have to redo the entire dungeon/party system to include it. It's way too small of a party pool espesically with how many dps we have now. The moment you introduce jobs that are support oriented with relatively much weaker dps abilities, it becomes an issue where they're either too weak to justify a party slot, too good to not have one in your party, or taking away a party slot from the queue and significantly increase match-up timers.
yah it's what I mentioned in the other parts I'm content with keeping it as is but adding in more hybrid jobs like Bard. (I never played Bard but people say it's a hybrid job) I suppose proposing a what if scenario would be best life if it was like it from the start.
they could just up mob damage/hp by a tiny bit and add support to the party make up. so itd still be a tank/healer/melee/ranged/support thing is a single support job being added would maybe make queues even longer after the first few weeks when everyones got the new new levelled and either ditch it or go level with something else
I ask the same thing as well. Since rerelease I've lost entire guilds and so many friends.
The game is just too easy and simple so people lose interest. They also kill content so fast that people give up on gearing up because as soon as they're done the gear is dead. Yes mmos are a gear treadmill however, no mmo kills off it's gear this fast.
This game is also really restrictive, you can't really play how you want. You have to play how the devs want, you have to do quests, you have to use these stats, you have to use this set, etc.
I'm only here because Aion is full of BRs and the crafting in Blade and Soul is horrible.
Two things:
1) AST is practically Time Mage.
2) Wouldn't the addition of a Support role downplay AST, BRD, and MCH's supports' importance? I mean, they could shift BRD and MCH to Support, but then we would loose both our Physical Ranged DPS, while AST is too set in as a Healer to change.
Ok, the underlying questions to this support class nonsense. What can a support class provide that you can't just put on another role and be done with it?
Also, if their support is all they have, there's a balancing issue, if the support is less than 1 dps class then it will be a leper. If it does more, it's a requirement and needs to be entirely balanced around. If it's the same or equivalent, then it is pointless.
Thing is, I can't see this game getting any better even with PS3 support dropped. Unless they are secretly developing a second version of XIV. I mean they refuse to give us little things like an HD textures.
