Because "marriage" only carries with it the connotation of tax breaks and climbing up the social ladder, as it should.

The guy just posted his opinion about it and how he dislikes it, why are you attacking him? it's a discussion board, you can't force your opinions on others, it's like you guys are only looking for people who support this Same-Sex marriage to reply, hello? "discussion board", different opinions are always welcome as long as they don't offend anyone.
Just like everyone else in this world, SquareEnix had the option to either go Go-Gays or Go-Straights.. they chose the later, if LGBT was approved of in Japan things would go different, just live with it.
I don't care whether they add this option in the game or not, but if it was for me I'd say "No." Not that I care about peoples' choices, I have friends IRL who chose to be Gay/Bi-sexual, they are good to me even though they know where I stand about their preferences.
You're parting from the premise that we were created. Not everyone believes in that. I understand that your social background doesn't allow same-sex relationships (quick googling tells me you're maybe from Singapore?). I don't think it's too much to ask that you take a step back, and realize that the world is so big, and has so many different people... Why don't you try to broaden the limits of your mind and see that maybe (just maybe) other things than the ones you've been taught exist, and they're equally as beautiful as the ones you like.
You probably play with friends that have your same ideals, and that's just fine. If that's the case, same-sex marriage doesn't have to affect you in any way, and thus I don't see the reason why would you be so against it.
Did you choose to be straight? Guess I missed that day of school, when they allowed us to choose our sexuality.
You don't choose to be gay or straight, this is one reason people who support it get annoyed by these sorts of comments. They come off as ignorant and insulting.
There is a difference between bringing up a constructive comment about why you don't want it, and outright saying things like "it's morally debased" or "it's disgusting".
There have been a lot of good ideas in the thread and constructive comments from both sides, but there are people who are naturally indignant when it comes to unjust comments.
then explain to me the psychological and genetic aspects of a human being and how they don't factor into just being male and female... love is love... no matter sex race whatever... even if on a game love itself should be respected >.>... if we are created men and women... then why are we all not the same... our experiences are all differences people like different things... let them do what they like... I for one love cooking and eating hot animal flesh... steaks = <3 I'm a carnivore o.o some people are vegetarians won't touch meat... NOW IM OFFENDED AT PEOPLE WHO DON'T EAT MEAT but I respect their right to have their damned own opinions... now I think I'm off topic but seriously o.o
do what you like people if it makes you happy so be it... and it will make me happy to see so many more people happy then it shows how many people think its negative... if the majority will be more happy then the people negative its a good thing...
I'm not a very happy person but if I can make another person smile then it was worth it o.o if I can make many people smile then its worth it... if you don't want people to smile then what are you a man a woman or just a dirty rat who believes no ones fit for happiness...
Comment about accepting others and different ideals, and refusing to accept that guy's ideal. I love forums.
For this reason alone I support the "use the church how you want" idea. If I was SE I wouldn't even want to deal with this >.>
lolwut. I also live in an area where SSM isn't allowed (hello Bible Belt of America). Just because my state's laws ban it, doesn't mean I abide by it or believe its just.
I am using my mind, thank you. Male and female sexes were created for reproduction, not as a "standard" for what defines a relationship. Draconian society established that standard based on a book of mostly fairy tales.
The love two people share goes beyond any fairy tale book or law dictates. I urge you to "use your mind" instead of letting society dictate what you consider acceptable or not. And that is all I will say to you on that. :)
I keep seeing this issue of people saying they don't want SSM in FFXIV:ARR with their reasons based from their p.o.v IRL. Then we have the people saying 'keep your RL views out of this in game discussion blah blah'.
Sorry, but in order to have a constructive and coherent discussion, we for all intents and purpose have to use information outside of this game to try and get a clear reason why these people object to it.
If it means informing them, then so be it.
No one chooses. It's not my opinion, it is experience that not only myself, but many (if not every) bisexual/homosexual individuals have. They accept that, that is who they are, and no good will come from hiding or denying it.
I'd really like to see a good reason why they don't want SSM in ARR. All I am seeing is 'AMG ITZ IMMORALLLL'. Killing is immoral too, are you going to stop that in ARR?
But as it goes, I haven't seen one remotely good reason as to why there shouldn't be SSM in ARR.. I don't think a good reason actually exists.. I don't think I've seen more than one.. sort of.. reason.
Also lol, how many abbreviations do I want to use?!
Oh... just awaiting the day when everyone reads modern scholarly literature. For the majority of the gay population it's not a choice; huge research endeavors in genetics and biochemistry (especially neurochemistry) have found that individual will has nothing to do with the issue. (Can't speak for Trans, as that research isn't as well funded or popular.) To avoid derailing the issue: send me a message or something if you want links to the studies.
I dunno it's kind of like dealing with racists or something. Like back in the 50s when racism was far worse but people smartened up over time and equality came into play, and now many people look back on those times like "boy those people sure were assholes". We're entering that time with marriage equality, and 20 years from now things will be even more different. They'll be looking back at us like "boy they sure were assholes".
It's not a matter of what anyone's silly little holy book says, or what their father says, or what their employer says, it's what's common sense says and what's better for people in general. It's a human right to allow it. Hell, we're facing a really bad population problem in the world right now. I almost wish 70% of the population would just magically turn gay to actually give some hope to the world lol. Look what's in your heart.
Unless your heart is a dark, bleak, intolerant place.
I'm straight and i can say that health issue is a two way street my friend and it only view as shameless if your religious person. I don't follow what a book tell me what i should or not do and i also don't care if it's ban where i live people should be allow to love who they want that my view.
But i understand your views and i get where you coming from if it disgust you so much then it better if you just don't read this topic anymore. your vote is taken into account if there a real poll you can view your point there also if it make you feel any better i don't see it happening just for the fact all the issue is happening here.
Nah. I'll tell you a secret (shhh don't tell anyone though we don't want everyone getting smart): guys can give and receive sexual diseases to and from girls too. SHHHH keep it down. I know it's shocking. But that's not all. It's just as common (if not more common) than the spread of disease through homosexual behaviour.
The more you know.
What you call shameless is what I call normal. But what's the definition of normal, exactly? Not everyone is going to be alike, whether in relationships or personality or favorite foods. But that's what makes us unique.
By thinking the way you do, you are NOT being open-minded to other people, their cultures and their habits. You don't have to LIKE what someone else does, just as you don't have to LIKE vegetables on your dinner plate. But you ACCEPT and you TOLERATE that hey, my friend/sister/cousin loves vegetables on their dinner plate!
You seem to think that only gay people suffer from health issues. Straight people also get STD's too you know.
Because you live in a place that doesnt support same sex marriage you just go with it, and let it disgust you. Weak minded man that lets other peoples ideals become your ideals without a care about the right or wrong about it.
You are part of the problem there.
How did this get back to real world issues again anyways :/ Eorzia people, Eorzia
I'm not sure if talking about STIs is relevant (so at least try to add some relevance to your post while you argue that in the background), because you can't catch those online.. sorry to burst your bubble.
I'm sorry, it seems you don't understand how these things work. We appreciate that you posted your opinion, but until you can actually provide details that can be discussed besides how you feel or what you think, there's nothing anyone can do.
I'd just like to remind you that no matter what they call it in game, we will be getting married. We'll be in a union together. We'll be recognised as a COUPLE. A romantic couple.
How does that make you feel?
Anyway, I need to move away from this thread :x I don't want the forum mods getting mad at meee.
How about:
Despite the similarities between the appearances of humanoids in Hydaelyn compared with those of Earth, the biological make up of the former is radically different. In matter of Hydaelia every molecule carries a gender signature along with an individual identifying marker. Like-gender signatures, if brought in close proximity to one another and with different identifying markers, without exception attempt to destroy each other.
Biological life, especially that which is sentient, has managed to exist largely due to what is known as Aetheric-filtering; that is, a type of aether shield around biological life forms which dampens or insulates a molecule's genetic signature. This effect is independent of any being's will. However, fluctuations have been found in the filtering effect concurrent with heightened emotional states; complete temporary erosion has even been observed in individuals with romantic or procreatic relationships when in the company of their partners.
In same-gender creatures some degree of erosion can occur. However, once erosion has reached a certain (rather low) threshold, the beings display increasing enmity and aggression (often unperceived by the beings themselves) until the filter is restored.
If you want others to be so open minded about accepting the issue why can't you be open minded as well and accept their refusal?
Either way, we are what we are because we chose to believe what we are, some have the will-power to change some don't and SquareEnix will not look at this subject as long as Japan itself is ignoring it and in noway even trying to accept LGBT.
@Yellow I posted a response to your challenge, but it's probably gonna get lost in the arguments of opposing viewpoints.
Sorry if this feels like I'm stoking a fire here, but please believe that I am not^^;
I'm not sure what you mean by 'the aspect of their ideal is based upon a human ideal rather than a natural occurrence' D: You'll have to elaborate if you could, please^^;;
@Valk: I know that you said that first sentence was sarcastic, but you bring up a valid point.
As humans, we all have differing ideas, viewpoints whether it's something that's been taught to us or something that we have built our own conclusions on and while we do not have to agree with them, we must accept that people do have different stances on things.
Now, while I don't share Kona4me's view, I can accept that he has that view. We won't get anywhere butting heads over this, let's work together to find a positive solution that will work for everyone
Nix, your ClickyForAwesomes doesn't clicky ; ;
I tried to fix it but apparently I can't put a bbcode url into my sig! :( If you have any idea how to do that I would be most grateful for assistance! haha
Well there is exactly one SSM thread on JP side. Mostly they are talking about abolishing marriage and making partnerships or soul brother/sister because they do not want to rock the boat. It is much more civil than here for sure.
Natural occurrence: homosexual relationships occur in nature among different species. There is nothing inherently harmful to their relationship, provided they follow norms of consent and decency.(i:e: thing heterosexual couples cannot do anyway.). The population is not threatened with their existence because A: we are in the BILLIONS. And B: sexual orientation does not effect fertility.
Human ideal: homosexuals do not exist in a perfect world. Their existence keeps us and others from what the world was intended to be. It is supposed to be (insert outdated celestial decree number 44). And we must correct this, or the nation will "fall apart". To spontaneous terrorists popping up from the ether, and regular weather patterns.
Also @Rina - Tell me how you added a link to your siganture please D: I cannot do it with bbcode/html ._. lol

Awww Rina, it's clicky! haha
Thanks so much Rina! You're awesome<3
Back on topic:
I can understand the JPs opinion of not rocking the boat. Iirc, Their opposition to same sex relationships was of a different variety (ideas of maturity in Japan instead of the religious opposition in the West), not to mention feudal japan has had a history with same sex relations.
I wouldn't be surprised if it is a bigger deal here than there.(and thus, less civil here)
