It sucks having to DC travel to just to do things like Bozja/Zadnor and Eureka.

That's the mean reason I left. I gave it loads of time, but it restricts your options, especially if you have limited gameplay time. It's like paying the same subscription as someone on Aether, but having half the features. But it makes them $18 everytime one of us gets fed up with it. So why would they fix it?
Having come from WoW Classic I can tell you this is most likely the reason. They pulled the same thing when they added new servers but in the end all it did was nothing. Once the people on mega servers who aren't serious about sticking around after an expansion dropped left, the people who transferred or rolled on the new servers just transferred back to the mega servers when it was safe, and they were allowed to.
They really should have released Dynamis as a full datacenter. There was no reason to put it out in parts. Doing so created the issue at hand.
We aren't at expansion time yet (and not even close), so the need for new worlds outside of housing was minimal.
As their original plan was to release the final parts of the data center this summer, best bet would have been to wait until right before fanfest, release the servers, then let the hype that will inevitably come from the event draw people toward the new servers and housing.
... Sad thing is, now that the genie is out of the bottle, I don't think that's even possible anymore. The reputation of the servers has been established. Good luck getting rid of it.
I get sad every time I see this thread making the rounds :(
I transferred to Dynamis about a week after it opened. And so far I have absolutely not regretted my decision.
Everyone I've encountered on Dynamis is super nice. Found a great FC, the hunt community is absolutely wonderful, I've never had problems finding groups for anything I need to do.
I used to be on Leviathan and never had problems there, but it's so nice here :)
So, I'm on Aether, but it seems like the majority of people talking about how dead Dynamis is don't play on Dynamis.
That's a really good question.
I can't speak for NA or OCE as I'm in the EU but for ours, it was unfortunate as we needed new servers badly after the EW launch due to covid and chip shortages it was delayed until last summer. I actually anticipated more people to transfer over given the housing issues on large servers but alas, it's pretty dead on that front. Although, we haven't got our new DC yet and these servers were added to the Light and Chaos DC respectively so DF/PF matchup hasn't been affected at all. I feel for anyone playing on a brand new DC where this would be an issue.
While I fully support adding more servers and DC, as the game continues to grow it is just unfortunate with the timing for some regions. It will (hopefully) be much better later this year and next when 7.0 launches.
Sagittarius and Raiden both are barely surviving with an absolute dead marketboard and economy, let alone fc wise, there really isnt much, the population is extremely tiny.
If anything it gives a good idea of what the new EU DC will be like, not only 2 worlds or 4 worlds but 8 entire new worlds, with 2 new servers that they couldnt even fill, I'm sure 8 will go better right ? People might go over for housing, and then it'll be the new Materia, except that it'll have DC travel, the entire DC will be dead and everybody will DC travel to chaos or light to do content or hang out with friends, the fact they are going ahead with spreading an already medium sized community over an entirely new DC is ridiculous, and sure it might peak a little bit at release of 7.0, and then what when it dies down ? People will be stuck there on a dead datacenter and will be forced to pay to move.
Also it really is time to stop talking about this game "growing", it isnt, if anything its stable or trending down slightly thanks to there being barely any content, I could pull up charts number but people will yell that it isnt accurate (yet it is).
It may not grow as much right now but wait until 7.0 and we'll see a rise again, like with EW but that's just speculations.
As for how the experience going to be like when we get brand new servers on a new DC, it's hard to say. It's been over a decade since we had brand new DC for EU playerbase and game has changed a lot since 2013.
Of course there will be a rise with 7.0, and what once these people are disappointed and leave (which is bound to happen, it happens with every single mmo in the industry), what will happen to people on those servers ? They'll be left with a shell of a server and a completely dead datacenter, forced to go over to chaos or light to do any sort of content, why even have it in the first place ? To pretend that the game is full to the brim while it isnt outside of the new expansion release ? Is it really worth spreading the community even more on EU for that reason ? I dont think so
I mean I am xD? My goal was to own multiple plots to decorate and I'd say I been successful with my four plots. That's all I care about.
Players are unsatisfied with a lot of things, some even quit their subscription and it achieves absolutely " Nothing ". Mustering up all players of Dynamis to protest is unrealistic and even if you could Dynamis by default is the minority DC. This problem also isn't new since other Datacenters have had this issue, some? even before Data-Center traveling.
The dissapointment might be significantly less, since the peak might actualy get enough population going to take it to a satisfyable state. Those that would otherwise leave might therefor delay that action by quite some time.
But it becomes better, since at expansion time the popular worlds are that much congested, that even if the DC has a lot of lag, it still is better because you can at least play. There is a good likelyness that a lot of players will DC travel to these, and then discover how good connections actualy are. Who knows how many people will stick to those DCs then?
However, there is 1 thing that i think should be done to realy make it work even better. We alreay have a language selection for the duty finder, imagine also having DCs as an option in them. Then the base DC doesnt matter since for the duty it can enable a mixture of DCs. And especialy when the queues on 1 DC are quite empty, it can use the other DCs to assist. Which in practice means that the emptier DC will for a single duty place their players on a diffirent DC. In these duties there is no trading etc going on, so on that there is no full travel requirement anyway.
Once queue times become normal regardless of DC, the DC choise wont hurt anymore. Either you have the further DC which is more populated, but face a constant situation of latecy. Or you have the close DC and end up with significantly less lag, unless player counts went low and you are now put to your old DC. At which point it doesnt hurt since at least being able to play is better than not being able at all.
Well that would be my opinion honestly, I just think and this is just my point of view, that the EU region doesnt have anywhere near enough players for an entirely new datacenter, we just don't, and there wont be any significant changes in population anytime soon aside from the peak with the new expansion which as I said is fair, but wont bring long term numbers to the new datacenter.
Take in mind and take as example that the NA region, that has a LOT more players than us europeans, is barely managing 4 new worlds, 1 is pretty packed, and the other 3 are pretty close to ghost towns or at best Halicarnassus medium populated, leaving the last 2 in an extra low pop state.
Now put us europeans, with barely 2 DC and 2 almost dead worlds (Raiden / Sagi) and imagine what would happen with 8 new worlds.
Its just not realistic and they really should reconsider the plan for the new EU DC, they really should, for the sake of existing and future players.
If I got it right, you are asking for cross DC duty finder, which I absolutely approve of and should have been a feature a long time ago already, honestly.
The majority of people in here probably don't even play on the characters they use for their forum avatars so it's hard to say. Currently I spend more time on my Marilith characters than I do on this character and my other characters on Coeurl.
Dynamis isn't dead but it is low pop with players focused more around leveling content than end game content. It's only to be expected that it will be harder to get a party for end game activity. And yet if you actually try, you can usually get that party. PF is a very good way to go if it's showing a long queue time.
As someone who has been there on main since Day 1, the population of Limsa in Marilith is a lot larger than it used to be. Is it wall to wall packed like the other 3 DCs? No and frankly I never expected it to be. However, considering where we are now to where we were at the beginning, there's a noticeable increase especially in the afternoon/night hours.
As far as I'm aware of, the game is still putting new players into Dynamis automatically so it's not really a shock to me that end-game content isn't pulling the same crowd as the others, we got a large portion of the population still getting through everything else and they still would have to be interested in raiding to begin with.
Everyone there seems to like congregating in Gridania I've noticed, at least when I've logged in. I chose Twin Adder so I have reason to be there a lot. Lags me a little sometimes with just how many peeps there are around. So many sprouts still. People are still working their way through the story.
Dynamis is the chillest DC in my opinion. I've had chars on every DC and I've never felt more cozy than I do in Dyna. Aether is full of raiders and elitists now, Primal is kind of okay but I've had more bad experiences there than any other. (and their raid scene is apparently dying slowly because everyone just goes to Aether now), Crystal is basically just RP (I had an ex that literally had to go make a boosted char on Crystal to help his friends with raiding because they couldn't ever get a full PF of people in a timely manner).
The thing also with Eureka is that I rarely ever see people partying up unless it's a group that's come from a Discord. I met a really nice group while in the second zone that helped me farm and they were ironically on Dynamis lol. They even offered afterwards to have one of their more experienced group members powerlevel me. If you ever wanted to venture back to Dyna I (and most likely my partner) would be happy to help you out with leveling.
You were in a good place, I'll be honest. It might not be to the standards that people have coming from the DCs that have existed for years now, but I've never met more kind people than those on Dynamis. The people who wanted something different from the norm were the ones that went there (outside of trying to get easy housing of course).
It just seemed like nobody cared so I left. I tried to do stuff with them, but I didn't make it into the clique I guess. I don't know I've been unhappy since I came to Aether. The queues are way better, but the people are the worst. Or at least the ones I have interacted with.
The downside to be the same thing that happened in WoW. The cross realm ability to que while helps que time, that led to a vast increase in toxicity, a lot of community who at the time before was welcoming to teach and for new players to learn became a burden to them because they could just leave and req faster. Shortly after this Wow sub progression stagnated and declined after. The player base season is one of the worst patches and one of the leading causes to the downfall and the one big difference between vanilla and retail. Despite hearing this he's ignored this and said there's no relation between the two just cuz it doesn't agree with his argument.
To be fair, that's conjecture. This game doesn't have a cross realm queing yet, and it still has the same issues as retail Wow has now. People just prop up their FC as a community when really the majority of players on your given realm couldn't care less about you. I can say hello to a stranger and be absolutely apathetic to their issues. Party chat, shout chat, and yell. It doesn't matter. People are cruel it's in our nature. My idea, which isn't even my idea as stated above by you in Wow, is still a solution to the problem of Dynamis being dead. Again, we agree to disagree, but you can qoute me properly if you want to talk some smack. At least I have the good grace to quote you.
So you said, actually, nothing in this comment. No new ideas. Just the same vitriol you are claiming doesn't exist here. If anything, you're proving my point. I'm not going to argue with you. I can see the pigeon knocking over the chess pieces now.
I really don't understand this obsessive need to prop this game up above Wow. It's literally the same genre that attracts the same players. It is lunacy. And if you're right and it is so different, then let's try my idea and see if FF can weather the storm of it. What do you have to lose? What is so important to protect while my servers shout chat is dead. Filled with nightclub adverts and gil sellers. Omg the horror of it all.
Your idea has been proven a failure in the past....its like Why doesn't America adopt socialism..because history has shown that it fails and leads to negative experiences. I know you struggle to grasp this because you didn't live it just like how there are Americans who for some reason think Cuba is a great successful socialist country with great socialist programs and no idea why their citizens constantly flee to the US yet you are so FIXED on your idea it you can only spout it till it you watch it completely fail and negatively affect the game. Complaining shout chat is dead is pretty weird considering EVEN on Aether (since i started on Jenova) it wasn't super active most of it was in say. Also idk why you are having SOOOO much issue with people on Aether i never had a issue at all when there, not in any content, so far the only common denominator to the problem seems to be you are involved so what do YOU do when this so called all negative behaivor is happening before and after.
Sorry but this is peak FF14 fanboy. "WoW bad am i right?"
Its a multiplayer game, they all have toxicity problem. Just in different forms or towards a different group
I play both, i rarely experience toxicity in WoW. 1) Because i dont consider getting called dumb as toxic and 2) i can pull my weight so people have no reason to get mad at me.
Yes you wont get yelled at for playing 3000 hours and still failing your 1-2-3 combo in FF14. But ever dare to imply the story is meh at best, or ever expect someone to put in bare minimum effort in a dungeon run. Lets not forget LazyPeon (dont even like him) getting death threats for daring to skip the story cause he got bored by it.
These people are the unique WoW Exodus shavings we got left over that unfortunately decided to stay in XIV.
They're so upset with WoW, that their hatred shines the brightest light on XIV, no matter it's faults. In their eyes, they don't come close to WoW's toxicity dredged into all systems and all people. XIV can do no wrong, and WoW can do no right. Even if Yoshi-P himself pissed directly into his mouth. He'd thank him for the lemonade, and argue WoW has never quenched his thirst so effectively.
It always bothers me when people equate x game into toxicity. I've played both for years. I've played FFXIV since 2013 with Wow sprinkled in am I a Wow refugee? I've always thought that people who painted us with such a broad brush were morons at best.
Anyway, back on the Dynamis being dead train, has SE said anything about our situation? Do they even care? Do they hope that 7.0 is going to make us popular? Because I don't see it. 90% of my FC is in a state of constant dc visit. I don't think I've seen post 50 content in weeks. It's grim, at least in the now.
This isn't a Dyna only issue atm, most are flooding to Aether to do content and all other DCs are taking a hit from it. It's what happens when DCs start getting reputations for doing certain things, like Crystal has the massive bulk of RP. They need to just provide incentive to stay on your DC tbh.
This is exactly what they need.
Reduce XP/rewards gained from roulettes and dungeons by 75% while not on your home datacenter and Disable the Road to 80 buff while you are not on your home world.
This way people will stay and do content on their own home worlds, and if they get super desperate, can DC travel to complete a dungeon/raid on another DC at a reduced XP/reward gain.
I am an ex WoW player who quit in Shadowlands. I wouldn't go as far as to say that FF14 is perfect or massively superior to WoW, however the toxic mentality is reined in more in FF14. It is only recently that WoW has decided to address the more toxic elements of the game, in comparison FF14 seems to more actively try and control toxic behaviour. As a result any toxic behaviour I have encounter in FF14 has more passive aggressive compared to the more aggressive toxicity I saw in WoW.
Imagine playing WoW past Wrath
Even though I already have the mentor mount on one of my characters, I’m half tempted to see what mentor roulette looks like on Dynamis…
That's the big issue. DC travel has really murdered the games community at this point. So why not do something radical? I had said previously that I think Cross DC queuing should be a thing, and I think the current problem with everyone clustering on certain servers isn't helping. Currently outside of housing, Dynamis is a net loss for the player. Our economy sucks, our queues suck and our population sucks. And what makes it worse is that leaving is always the best choice. And at that point, why play here? Outside of housing, I don't see it. Again, it's a net loss. If my FC disbanded, I would leave. This place is a joke.
