Because horses are the perfect beings! That being said, the name itself is an actual name, so I doubt they drew inspiration from what you're thinking of.

The viera are an attractive race...and one of my current favorites. If they released viera, i have a feeling it would reduce the number of cats running around too. If only by a little bit. I would love this option. Plus, imo.. Fran and Balthier made ff12 >.>

I'd be happy with Viera being added, personally. It'd make my S/O extremely happy since it's their favorite race in FF. For those that say it'd be just "another humanlike race with animal ears", I say, they could easily give it a more animal-inspired face set, have the nose, mouth etc be more rabbit like, with humanesque (not solid black) eyes, and the bunny ears, taller like the elezen are, they could look really good imo and could fit into the "slightly less human looking" box at the same time if done proper

I would like to see Viera added. I would also like them to stick with the concept art.. The Au Ra concept art looks much better than the crap they put out. Bring the resources back to the game, knock out a few new races and fix the content and watch the subs come pouring in. SE your welcome now.. make it happen.

Not a fan of the viera. They seem too similair to miqote and (female) au ra. I wouldnt mind any new race in the selection though but personally i'd prefer to see something less human looking like Ronso.

They have similarities with miqote but theyre sized like roegadyns, have dark skin by default and more catlike faces. The horns would be their defining feature as it really stands out. I can already imagine a broken horn option as a reference to Khimari. The females share the same traits (tall and muscular) but look feminine enough to be appealing to anyone already playing femroe imo.

I certainly would've wanted a tall beautiful race that's all about isolation and keeping up appeasing the Wood. Elezens could have been that, but they're not since they're just transferred over Elvaan.

Other than the males, it should not be too hard creating the race since Viera already exists in other game... And we know how many of FF12 mobs have made it too FF14. As for male they have plenty of examples:

The only reason why it's "Weird" to have male viera is that people like to sexualize female rabbits

The thing is, most people agree that they could do it. Would they do it is another matter entirely and the issue some of us have. They could have easily made the Au Ra less human looking (I hate to keep beating this dead horse, but let us once again remember the concept art...), but they ultimately opted not to.

Lol! I really..REALLY dislike the Au Ra! There needs to be an option to turn those ugly scales off completely. They ended up looking like scabs.

I disliked the concept art, personally. Much prefer the way Au Ra ended up being, myself. Had they looked like the concept, I'd probably have stayed a midlander.

Given that there are actually two rabbit races in the franchise and the thought being Viera looks to much like a reskinned miqote/mithra . Has it ever been a possibility that a remodeled Hummingway could be an alternative to the Viera? Or perhaps were the Viera a remodeled Hummingway in the same manner Quirrin are loosely derived from Burmecian?

Either way if the writers do any future cut scenes on the moon at least one of them would be likely. Although you'd think they would have been on Dalamund or Azys lla given everything.

Now that I think about it. If the Hummingways are made into a race about the size of Lalafell's and used the same body type but had the fuzzy looking skins of moogles instead. They could take the legacy noses for Tarutaru and make a variety of them as a default selection. This could in a way make a more beast like race that fits into the current gear and may make them look similar to Moogles in Tactics but with out the pompom and wings. That would be at least an interesting compromise for something rabbit based and a nod to Moogles in the tactics and possibly FF12 as being playable.

Dude, Yoshi himself said that Au Ra could look like succubi, he's already sexualizing the races himself. Not to mention the miqote/catgirls that are sexualized in nearly every anime everrrrrrr so where's the reason to not have viera in here again?

But anyway, of course the "Sexualizing" would be dumbed down by removing any existence of a butt of any kind, and a fairly limited boob slider, which right now highlander hyur sized is the biggest so far and its far from oversexualized. surprised no one mentioned the hempen shirt for fem highlanders, is that not overly sexualized too since the viera race is too much??

How I'd like to see them is more like an Elezen, even taller if you count the ears. Beast-like stance on the feet, though I'd imagine they wouldn't do that sadly, on account of current shoes needing to touch the ground. :(

Nah I got it, I was adding info for the other guy based on your correction for him. Basically there's still no reason to not have the race inside the game because they would be "sexualized" since the designers themselves sexualize all the races in the game all the time and really isn't a valid reason for Viera to not be in the game.

I'm expecting some strong disagreement but I think the majority (read: not all!) of people asking for a more beast-like tribe wouldn't really take advantage of it or use it, just like how I don't think the people asking for Snowboarding or Blitzball in the Gold Saucer would play those things for maybe a week. It's an idea that seems popular on paper just because it's an "obvious inclusion" but at the same time I don't think it would garner much long-time love. Guaranteed that after a month or two passes and the "new race smell" diminishes, we'd be back to having the streets flooded with Miqote and Au Ra, with some Lalafells sprinkled in.

all of the races will always be 95% human. They flattened our characters' butts out and made their body types as similar as possible in order to quickly get new gear out. they claim it's too hard to even shrink the boob socks on most gear so men and women can have the same nubmer of gear options. If the race was completely different, it would take much longer than female to male alerations to get armor out.

Seeing how they handled Triple Triad and Verminion and their tournaments, I kind of hope they don't include Blitzball... >x>()

If anything, we'll likely get the much less popular FFX-2 version where we don't really control our teams. That would be my guess, anyway.

Honestly, the foot thing is probably what will make Viera worse than Au Ra, if they get made. The only interesting thing they'd have going for them is their feet (Viera don't have a tail and rabbit ears are just longer cat ears. Oh yeah, I went there). Considering the XIV team didn't seem to redesign head gear for Au Ras (their horns kinda clip through hoods and helmets, yeah?), SE will not design Viera with their unique feet (since that would require redesigning every bit of foot gear).

Yap, that's exactly the problem I see with it and I fear that Viera will be the same, if they decide for them to be the new race. Like some people mentioned before, I'd much rather want to see a race like wolf or dragon instead of another humanoid one, but thanks to the gear problem we have, we will most likely never get them. That kinda sucks. :(

I would love to see the Viera in this, but would love even more an not so humanoid looking race, maybe like the Burmecians or the Nu Mou

viera really aren't that different from miqo'te though, you could just make a miqo'te bard and wear similar clothing for a similar effect.

Why not beast races? If gear is a problem they could just make different models that fit the look of the race, suddenly they only need a handful of models for gear

I was a bit disappointed with the Au Ra. Was hoping for something much more reptilian.

I think dolls would make an interesting playable race. Thinking about the black mages of FFIX, the automatons, etc. Could still give them customisable bodies with hair, etc, but it would just be a shell with an open face that's deep black with the little glowy eyes.

I like the tall ones and these small ones, so the best thing to do would be to have them be the tribes?
Highlander and Midlander are different enough from each other for example (more so than any other tribe)

Viera and Vierafell <3

I would actually be so happy for a Garlean playable race, even it came with class restrictions due to the magic thing (unless that gets fixed in he future). I adore them and would play the race so quickly.
