Accumulating gil. There's no barrier to entry other than completing the first 2 quests every new character gets and accepting the third. There are multiple options to enhance a player's experience with the content. Reach gil cap, move part of the gil elsewhere and keep going.

There is nothing wrong with having content that actually takes a long time to progress through.
If you have a poor attention span, MMOs shouldn't be for you.
Being behind isn't a bad thing either, if people have emotional issues due to this, they shouldn't do anything with people then, they need to seek therapy.
