Shame, I did that in a group and found it to be the best expansion story wise. I can deal with half solo/half party but anything on either side is too unfair to both sides of players.

WoTG is a funny bit of FFXI history, a lot were actually tired of doing it because of the gaps in storyline being released, why?
You're posting on the forum of the very reason people gave up in general on doing that. You didn't answer why it's ok to be forced to solo but not vice versa. For a bunch of people who seem to want choices, people sure are defaulting to an option they prefer.
There is more pros than cons solo. You're most likely going to be left behind if you're started late on the scenario if its force group. But, if there is an option to scale the difficulty base on lvl, party size, and an appreciate reward for your efforts then that will be great for everyone.
You and a bunch of whiners about how there should be "challenge" and "struggle" in-game does not equal everybody.
Because businesses are just gonna cater to their little niche populations instead of trying to spread the genre to a bigger demographic to make themselves more money. I benefitted from the change in the MMO genre because for once I could actually see the damn story without throwing away hours of my life. Yeah, the games aren't made around guys with tons of free time anymore, but now keep the working dads, computer unsavy aunts and never-played-a-game-before grandmas in mind. I'm fine with that. Hell, I encourage it because it means more people to play with in group content. If you're finding the changes in the genre dull and boring, perhaps it is you who should find something else to play.Quote:
The MUD/MMO genre has been destroyed by "OMFG I JUST WANNA HAVE FUN!" and this is why pretty much every new MMO is a dull boring piece of shit.
You're never forced to do it solo. You could still group up to make things faster/easier. All it would mean is that if I can't get anyone to help me, I am not stuck at that part of the story for months or years on end.Quote:
Why is it ok to be FORCED TO DO IT SOLO but not to be "Forced to do it in a Party"?
I just don't know what to say about this thread other than wow...just /facepalm.
Look I don't think anyone ever said that this game should be a solo game only. Matter of fact, myself and many want things to be there that are group related content only. People who are able to group up to get the "oober" gear, in my mind deserve it.
On the same token, I do not think story related content should be shut off from any player. Period.
My opinion is that story related content should be large group, small group or solo optional AND the programming should be made to where it recongnizes # of people in party, class/jobs in party and scale difficulty accordingly. On top of that, those who chose to do group related content with 4 players + should ABSOLUTELY be rewarded with either more exp, more gil, special item w/e as opposed to someone doing story related content solo.
No one is saying you HAVE TO DO SOMETHING SOLO! The option however SHOULD be there. Forcing anyone into a group scenario who can't or doesn't want to is wrong. Yes this is an MMO. I get it. However no one is forcing others to solo anything...but by making everything group exclusive only you are then forcing a majority of players to be pigeon holed into grouping, and possibly into a class/job they may not wish to play because people then are going to say "X strategy worked with this...so we only want X jobs". One is being forced into two situations they may not wish to be in, how is that fair to the playerbase? At least with people who wish to group, they can do so and find like minded people and chose strategy and be picky about jobs and such.
What about the player who can't or won't do that? Is one then intentionally trying to force ostracising people because they do not share the same values as another when it comes to gaming? Please provide a legit explanation as to why this is okay? Because frankly, I am just not seeing it or understanding this "party play" only type of view. I mean honestly, I would think the more a game is open to various game play, the more people it would attract. Isn't WoW kinda like this?(Seriously isn't WoW I didn't get far into it to really know or not). Isn't that one of the reasons why that game is so successful and popular with players? IDK, but seriously someone explain, because clearly I am blind here.
And if this flusters one soo much, that someone would prefer to do content solo vs. group, then I highly suggest reevaluating the group of people you play with and your LS, because obviously you are running with the wrong crowd if this type of mindset bothers one.
Bingo.
No thanks.
We already have plenty of soloable content, and there are plenty of other MMORPGs that are all about soloing.
Same here. I did San d'Oria, Bastok, and Windurst long before it was even the "cool" thing to do. It was never hard.
I certainly can agree with this myself, but these people whining about solo will still demand the rest to be soloable. (Of course, I've been fairly moderate in the first place.)
Not forced to do it solo? A few days ago I tried helping a fellow LS-mate with the main scenario, it turned out I couldn't help him. Don't you dare tell me that's not being forced to solo.
Are you serious with this claim? O.o I don't recall anyone ever saying that. You guys are retaliating something imaginary, 'soloers' like group content too we just need to plan for it more which is why it's nice to have some story content we can experience while we schedule to defeat Ifrit or run a dungeon or something. Why do you feel the need to bar people out of all the story? We've never asked for that ourselves, it's always been sked as an option.
Oh the drama. ;) The game is still be redesigned give it a chance to get this stuff sorted out and don't blame casuals for something the original dev team did... I think the main scenario being a soloable only walk in the park is stupid too. I just don't want it to take 5 years to get throuh it though.
Actually, I hate to burst anyone's bubble, but when this game was released it was pinpointed at the casual gamer market. Hence why I jumped on at BETA and played.
