Suggestion: As marriage is a perfect gil sink.. why not make it something people can benefit from?

Expensive gil fee for the ceremony and invitations, Disciples of Hand can craft the outfits and any other things wanted in the ceremony.

Yeah I was thinking you would be able to get a couple of friends to help set up the ceremony. Maybe have a weaver craft the dresses with special mats given to you, a goldsmith for the rings, and they can finally put a use to the multi-craft giant cake for culinarians.

Well I play a female character and so does my fiance, guess it would be good for us to be able to take the plunge in game too :D

This what the exact reason i brought up country issue, so yes i care about if i will be unable to play because of country's restriction and close mindedness, although the chance of it being issue is probably not big, i am still not taking chances.

I came here to play not get married, get off the game if u want to experience marriage.

"Pact" would work brilliantly. That's a fantastic idea at pulling it off without marring SE's reputation and allowing individuals to roleplay it out as they want.

I read through about 10 pages of this...and not one person has mentioned this:

There are different RACES in this game...is it taboo to mix within completely different species?!

I mean is a Rog going to be able to marry a Miq or Taru(lol)?
If so, then why is same sex even on the table...
seems like you should be able to marry whoever the F you want, or even make a pledge of celibacy/be single.

S.E.: Just put it in from the beginning and never mention it again. Not many will care, and adding it later due to political pressure or whatever will have made you seem outdated, or weak. If someone asks why you allow it, ask them if they oppose Human and Rog unions, and make no more comments.

Speaking in archaic terminology does not make you an enigma, it really doesn't. That you think you're special because you can understand words you see in cutscenes does not make you enlightened either.

Also, as you yourself say, I am allowed to believe what I want, and no amount of roundabout insults is going to make you less of a bigot, nor any amount of repeating your sentences using different words make you less of an idiot.

Kiroh, let it go, seriously. Why do you feel the need to attack people? I understand some people will not share the same view as you, but labeling them things like "Republican, anti-women, uninformed idiot" does not make you the bigger person. You come off as a fool. We get it, you want SSM in this game, you've been heard. Give suggestions on how to make it happen other than getting hot headed and stalking people for their first-born if they say something remotely offensive.

And if something someone says bothers you, explain to them WHY, constructively, without all the attacking bullshit pls.

The lore team has already said stuff like that can happen. They've also said Eorzeans are open-minded... I think in response to same-gender couples. So this stuff does happen in Eorzea, it's just implementation could be a hindrance to SE. It's not the first time I've seen a company tiptoe.

What about the nerves of others you've already agitated with your shit flinging? I've corrected insensitive people all the time, it's not hard. Infact, without resorting to immature name calling, they're usually left speechless because they can't ANSWER why they disagree with it. Which gives YOU the advantage to give them the proper information.

I wasn't calling you coldhearted. That part was concerning treatment to gay people, as in just because something they do is disagreeable doesn't give one the right to treat them so discourteously.

Want to bump a few things I liked / maybe remix..

1. Name
This is FFXIV this is not "in real life" - they dont have marriage like we do (unless we force them to, which would be silly since they arent us). Without arguing the origins of marriage (because that could be a fun unrelated topic in itself) FFXIV needs to make its own origins and it needs its own laws and formalities as already has its own gods.

Give it a different damn name so people cant cry as easy (they always will cry but the less zealous wont notice / or care as it isn't specifically referring to marriage since it will be a different union - and i mean crying in both directions (homosexuals and anti-homosexuals)).

2. Options
I want to make a brotherhood - specially if they add benefits to do so (and while I wouldn't die at a wedding theme, It would be fun to see other theme options that seal the binding - but dont exclude a wedding theme for same sexes). I love someone talking about making it a gil sink - obviously less then housing.

Could go crazy and make different tiers of binding (Soul bound singular binding, blood bound multiple, and then you have free companies and linkshells as lesser bounds). - Adding too many levels of social casting could turn into a more elitist community though.. would have to be well thought of - an MMORPG community, unless you are playing EVE or other cut throat(y) games, should always feel welcoming.

3.
There are a lot of males choosing female characters and a lot of females that choose female characters.. lol For those who actually wanted to do it "straight" its pretty damn impossible unless everyone in their one time race choice makes sure they match up (and that is if they knew each other in the first place to meet up).



Regardless of what happens benefits would have to be carefully chosen to be fun and relevant whilst not being over powered and "required" to play well.

I'm pretty sure I read either a dev post or something in an interview saying there wouldn't be benefits, but I haven't had luck with searches finding it again.

Oh well that makes it not over powered :P lol. I'd believe there were no benefits - I'm pretty sure that's how they did it in FFXI.

I only thought perhaps this time was the exception as Yoshi seems to push into the new.

I agree there are a lot of guys playing female characters, especially cats. It was even a running joke in XI how you couldn't trust mithra because more often than not they turned out to be "manthra".

And I also think that they should ad SSM from the beginning, but not really announce it with all the fanfare they do for other things. Just say something like "Couples can now get married in this cathedral" without even having to mention the SSM part.

If they add it later, they'd have to do some kind of announcement of the adjustment, or nobody will realize it's been implemented. Then that's where the "fun" would begin.

I don't mind this idea (pact of friendship) but i feel disgusted whenever i hear this same-sex marriage honestly :3 in real life or game .

pact of friendship can be with more people~ maybe 3 or 4 .

I can understand people who dislike it but people like that guy should not even post stuff like that if you don't agree don't view the topic lol.

You should understand some of what I first said... I'm assuming the initial interpretation to closely represent how a number will see it. Same-gender marriage an oxymoron? I didn't invent that. Morally debased? That was around before I was even born! (Though excuse me, as I can't claim I don't feel the sentiment.)

That's what SE is up against, and it just plain wouldn't make them look good. The mentions of alternative ways to work around it were quite good, though. That's where the discussion would best be headed to produce results.

I don't live in a place which allows same-sex marriage :3 . Also, we were created a male & female for a reason so try to use your mind please, thats about real life, for this game i see friendship or whatever close to it... is good enough .

Finally, i see that we have to focus on other important things in game to make it more fun .

I understand your views and seeing how you live in a country where they don't see same-sex marriage. I can understand why you feel that way you grow up knowing right from wrong from your country. But it's time to stop living in the dark ages yoshi-p live in japan where they don't even recognized same-sex marriage and he still having a open mind about it due to the fact that it's time to move from it
