We will never agree. I consider not waiting rude and are unable to accept the argument "You over estimate just how much content is missed" as a valid excuse for rude behaviour. Your moral compass is clearly different (not sure if that is the right word. Ethics? Consideration? Education? Something along those lines). Which is basically what this threads boils down to. Difference in values

Did you join MSQ roulette recently? There are always players running that although it has the longest cutscenes.
People even run guildheists which don't give a worthwhile reward.

Rolling need on everything only works if people have the same understanding of need. FFXIV is different, people roll need because they can. Not necessarily because there is actually a "need"

I can foresee this as well. Alliance roulette isn’t worth a significant amount of experience as is. In my personal opinion, the value of this roulette only increases as the time spent shortens. Getting a Nier raid for example over a CT diminishes the value of the exp received due to how much longer the raid could potentially take. Add more time by making the cutscenes mandatory and the value of the exp gain diminishes in the same manner.

It may end up looking a lot like level 80 roulette in shadowbringers with long queues due to low participation as people didn’t want the time sink of amaurot for the paltry rewards

Not waiting on others is rude in almost every situation I can think of in life. Especially when its literal seconds. But like you said earlier, other people in this game are nothing more to you than a means to an end. I only hope that perspective is only in game.

You can't backtrack and say that you weren't saying someone is uneducated for not waiting while your previous post said "Your moral compass is clearly different (not sure if that is the right word. Do you know why that is? Because they had to buff it twice following the forced cutscene change. When that were first implemented, the roulette immediately died.

Even if they were to slightly buff Alliance Roulette's EXP, it has another problem: naked queuing. If we're all suddenly forced to watch Nier cutscenes, I can all but guarantee even more people will simply force Crystal Tower to spawn. Why wouldn't they? Crystal Tower is already 50% faster for the same reward. Now you wanna make it 60% faster.

It's not about "education". Taking mathematics in school versus geography isn't going to change what kind of human being you are. Going to post-secondary for a medical degree isn't going to make you a better or worse person than someone who went to trade school. If you're going to imply that you meant to say upbringing and personal experiences, then say that. But saying education is you making a statement that people who differ from your opinions are lacking in intelligence.

Yes, thank you. "upbringing and personal experiences" is what I was looking for

Just based on the few dungeons I've done, I anticipated this was probably going to be an issue going forward. My WoW instincts are to skip cutscenes or face some sort of negative consequence for being "selfish". My recently acquired FFXIV instincts say otherwise.

Harriks probably attended a school, likely not in the U.S. where in schools, "education" is more than learning math, science etc. and includes learning how to be a decent human being.

We often don't see our own faults and are incapable of viewing ourselves in a negative light. But I can tell you, if someone were to talk to you the way you are talking to other people, you wouldn't react well.

Also, not all Americans are rude, as you want to bring up the US. And not everyone you disagree with is from the US. You even bringing that up tells me a lot about you.

It's a lot easier to get away with bullying as long as you're doing it under the illusion of 'standing up to bad people'. The problem is that this creates a perpetual need to find ways to depict the people you'd like to target as 'bad', so you'll frequently see opportunists making moral mountains out of molehills, as with this thread. People are legitimately trying to argue that pulling a boss in a video game at the wrong time somehow precludes you from being a 'decent human being'.

Don't skip (unless you personally want to) or let someone make you skip. Watch your cutscenes. They may do the fight without you and that sucks, but don't let that pressure you. If you're an essential role and they do that and die, that's on them entirely. The vast majority of players won't care. Many will wait for you just out of politeness. So don't let the random jerk or two you get force you to ruin your experience.

This is the GD way.

Quick and easy solution is for the devs to code in unskippable cutscenes whenever the game detects new players within that raid. Its unbelievable how people are selfish in this community where "its only ok to take your time as a new player, but NOT on my time". What a crappy double standard. I know at least for me, I respect and care more about giving others their time to see the boss cinematic at least. At least this is my mindset whenever I do content with new folk (which Im sorry its bound to happen considering the wave of new people playing this game for the first time). Whenever I get queued up with veterans though then who cares at that point I mean its just obvious lol.

I swear the whole "FF has the best community" is just a joke. You are all terrible people................................. but I love you all anyway.

I mean, if you gave me the choice to pick between XIV community vs other MMO communities that I’ve experienced in the past, I’d lean toward XIV’s by large margin. It is the best of the bunch. But if you know the nature of communities, it will and has always been fostering their own brand of toxicities regardless. No communities are clean 100%.

These dumpster fire reactions typically do not happen in-game. It’s pretty rare (at least in my experience) to see people throwing fit when people pull early or are ‘forced’ to watch cutscenes. Mostly when this happens people would just express their discomfort in non-confrontational ways or putting a reminder that first timers exists and just join in afterward. People generally just don’t care enough… except when you’re paired with few special individuals.

It’s not a big deal.

Yeah its honestly generally not a big deal if a few people are missing from the first minute or two of the boss encounter watching cutscenes, (Unless they happen to be healers or tanks which may or may not lead to a quick alliance wipe).

I hate how 'vets' expect new players to research a boss before fighting it.

If it makes them so mad why can't the 'vets' just explain the 1-shots before the boss?

yeah, but you can bet they wanted people to wait for them when they were watching the cutscenes!

I wouldn't complain to much about ones not waiting for ones to finish cutscenes or they will make it where can't skip any of them and force you to watch them every time.

When I was new people actually got upset with me for watching videos and I'd get insulted over it. "Can't believe you needed to watch a guide for such a simple boss," or "you're ruining the experience, just go in blind."


Anyways, on topic, I always do a ready check before the cutscenes happen in raids. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.

This. More people should do this.

the general rule is if it's like 4+ people sure lettem watch the cutscenes and wait but if only like 1 or 2 people are watching it? just lettem watch it and pull they lose what like 1 minute of the fight? and for those going "oh but they'll miss one minute of the fight". it's almost as if they can just reque for it (which for newer raids most people would especially if they didn't get the pieces they were after) or or and hear me out here it's almost as if we have a daily roulette for it that does have the chance of giving them the raid. 1/24 of a raid does not get to put the stalls on the entire AR thats final. or else we'd all be waiting when one person says "BRB need a drink of water" cause it's absolutely vital that one person gets his drink of water before we pull and he's back before the boss is even at half/three quarters health anyways at best

AR roulette has it's own issues but this isn't the place for that

i am with u op. it really shows the quality of some ppl. however at this stage it cant be resolved.
I am from elemental and most of the time ppl will wait or do a ready check to see if someone is new and want to watch cutscenes.
