Mog Station is overpriced.

I didn't get it because I'm sick of dresses in this game. The clipping issues and the cardboard stiff movement is what got me to put the first eastern dress in the armour to collect dust. (also, for some reason the back of the 1st dress looked kinda...derpy. the front was really adorable though.)

Little bit off topic, but I seriously hope we don't have to go back on this thread every time they add a new piece of glam to mogshop....

The ego of some stranger telling me that I am somehow fundamentally wrong because I bought myself a statue and emote, or a play dress so my irl wife i play with can feel pretty in game.


I and people like me use to be like you. We were "hardcore" but as you grow you just don't have the time, but that doesn't mean you should be excluded. Casuals outnumber the harder bunch, that's just a hard fact, so it is kind of important we are catered to, our subs keep the lights on, and our cs buys upgraded those lights to florescent. Go raid, go have fun, and kill that savage once for me. But please stop badgering me over what I do with my own money.


With all respect and no malice, that is the honest answer, at least from me to your very good question. If they ever add p2w stuff I'll be there with you. Until then, I'll and others will do what we like and sort of ignore this crusade. Crusades are for the young, I got stuff to do.

You're grasping at straws here. SE is not a user (player), SE is the provider of the content.

Taken from the actual terms of service:

2.2 Real Money Trading, Farming and Power-Leveling. You may not sell, purchase or exchange for real-world money or value any in-game currency, accounts, characters, in-game services, or in-game virtual items. You may not play the Game for the purpose of acquiring virtual items or advancement in game play on behalf of a third-party or for the purpose of selling any virtual assets to a third party for real-world money, specifically including "gold-farming" and power-leveling services.

This is SE defining what RMT means based on the TOS which is freely available to all.

You (the player) may not sell, purchase or exchange for real-world money or value any in-game currency, accounts, characters, in-game services, or in-game virtual items. You (the player) may not play the Game for the purpose of acquiring virtual items or advancement in game play on behalf of a third-party or for the purpose of selling any virtual assets to a third party for real-world money, specifically including "gold-farming" and power-leveling services.

At no point in time is SE (the player) or the user. Neither is SE at anytime a third party that you (the player) are playing the game for the purpose of selling virtual assets for real world money.

There are only 2 parties in a direct relationship here. You (the player, user and customer) and SE (content provider and merchant of a service/product) There is no RMT here at all based on your flawed understanding of RMT. A merchant (SE) putting a product on sale to a buyer (player) who is fully aware of what the product is and has the option of buying or not buying the product for a real world currency. There is no third party involved here.

Third party in legal parlance is "A person who is not a party to a lawsuit, agreement, or other transaction but who is usually somehow implicated in it; someone other than the principal parties." In the context of contract law, a third party is one who does not have privity of contract with other persons to a contract."

The contract SE has is with you the player and this third party is somebody who is not part of your contract with SE when you ticked the "Agree"/ "Read the agreement" button. You entered into a 2 party contract with SE when you chose to accept their terms of service- you and SE.

So if SE is putting something on the cash shop, there is no third party involved since what they are offering is a product to you which you can choose to buy or not to buy. There is no RMT involved.

Whales do not consider anything to be to pricey, they can buy a pretty little dress on the mog station for $90 and they see no issues with it. You won't convince them otherwise, You know the old saying, a fool and his money, etc. Just let them be, and at least hope SE puts that easily obtained money to good use. and stop catering to the cash shop as hard.

Well.... Yes, that's pretty much exactly how it works.
If you are happy to spend that kind of money on it and are satisfied with the purchase, then it's not overpriced for what it is.

I mean, there are plenty of instances where people are willing to spend more money based on the fact they prefer the end product.
I'll spend more for lunch a restaurant A instead of less at restaurant B since I like A's food more, despite both being perfectly good at filling me up.

If I own a fancy car, or had a large house renovated for a substantial sum, it may be overpriced to another, but it is not overpriced to the user who paid for it. Simply because if it was overpriced, I would not have bought it.

If u really want an objective value of what overpriced is, that is when you find a value that nobody in the market is willing to pay a price for. That is when the value of an item does not equate to any satisfaction derived out of the payment. Before that point is reached, all this constant cries about items are overpriced are pointless because every value before the critical price (where nobody is willing pay) is purely subjective.

Why are you even trying to second guess the happiness or satisfaction of these people? same for the people who paid said prices for the items on mogstation, are you telling me these people are not happy and dissatisfied with their purchase? reeks of envy to me masquerading as trying to pose an intellectual challenge.

How do you even define rational. You are taking the high pedestal and taking on this "holier than thou" stance now.

Are you always able to afford everything in the world? Do you like the pricings of everything in the world? there's always going to be times when you find something way out of the budget and say "well I'll pass this time, I can't justify the purchase or I cannot afford it." Full stop and move on Or is it that you have always had your way in life so far that you never had to make such a decision

This is the reality and based on this reality you make a choice. If you can't afford it or do not wish to part with the money, so be it. That is just how it is.

What you are essentially saying now is

1. I want the item
2. I want the item cheaper because I cannot afford it
3. I want the item cheaper because I WANT it to be cheaper
4. SE must listen to me because I am rational and I am right
5. Everybody who paid $18 is not rational because I am rational for wanting it to be $3 tops

And yes, I may or may not wear this dress the next month if something exclusive comes out. I may or may put the dress into a rotation once a month or once a year or every alternate day. Who are you to be second guessing me on what I do with the item, my money that I paid for and what I should be feeling? On what grounds are you basing to tell me I should not be satisfied with my current purchase and I should be feeling guilty because I paid $18 for it and I should be just like the rest of your camp that says items should be at max $3 and I am irrational for paying $18 for it.

I am not defending Mogstation in the least. Get your facts and arguments right. I am simply saying, if you find an item overpriced, don't pay for it since nobody is forcing the item on you. Just as a product is displayed on the shelves of a store, the consumer makes the final choice whether they want to purchase it and whether they derive any value/satisfaction from paying that price.

Are you going to go to the car sales centre and tell the staff "hey your car is overpriced, its not worth $X because it is only worth $Y in my opinion. A rational response to this thread would be the complete opposite of what you are doing. Instead, it would be "I bought the item but do feel that this isn't a good deal with the dress being for one character at 18 dollars. Hell, you can't even wear this on alts without paying again and I feel that is dumb. You are being the opposite and claiming superiority over your bought item to others because "you like it" but you don't stop to think about others. It is all you and your defense of the cash shop.

IN FACT, I can buy the item right now if I chose to do so, but seeing the price, THAT steep for one dress that isn’t even account wide for instance is absolutely dumb. I feel that the price is a ripoff for these reasons. After all, even a set like Minfillia’s that comes with more stuff is cheaper than this. How do you justify the price of this being expensive when it is 1 item?

Aren't you telling people how they should feel about spending their money? You're telling me RIGHT NOW in that sentence of yours HOW I should be thinking and feeling about my purchase and what I do with my money.

Nowhere at any point am I being superior simply by the fact that I like my purchase. Is it wrong to be satisfied with my purchase? Should I be feeling guilty and "not superior" as you put it about my purchase because it cost $18. How does me liking something I bought make me superior to the person next to me. Or are you suffering from some inferiority complex that anything that doesn't go according to your way or does not ascribe to your values takes on elements of superiority?

Me paying $18 for something has got nothing to do with me thinking about you or others. I was offered a product by the merchant SE on an online platform at a price of $18, the item (digital data or whatever you want to call it was titled "Far Eastern Matriach's Dress", I liked the presentation and images on the online store-front and I paid that price of $18 to the merchant. TLDR: I saw a product I liked, felt that it was worth my $18 (obviously not worth $18 to you) and I bought it. Simple.

Why are even reading so much into this about thinking about you, him, her or others. I was simply a customer buying something I liked with my own money, not SE's money and certainly not your money. Why should I be made to feel guilty about spending my own money on something I like as if i committed a crime against humanity.Why do I need to be part of your camp that says people who spend $18 are irrational, are inconsiderate towards the community because we paid $18 for something and that $3 is the correct price.

You say you can buy the item right now but you CHOSE not to, that is the point all along. You made that choice of not buying because you feel it is not worth the value and a ripoff. Why do keep going on and on about it being overpriced when the term overpriced itself is subjective because everybody has different definitions of overpriced and then you start to add on things like people who paid $18 are not rational.

Don't like the price, don't buy it. What is so difficult about this concept? And what's with all these weird and irrelevant justifications about rational consumers and $3 items. Purchasing a car from a renowned car maker does not equate to defending the car maker. All it shows is, the consumer liked the item/brand/service. That is all. Pardon me if I misunderstood your post. You used excessive sentences and caps locked things so I felt you were raging at people that are against purchasing these items. You also told people to cancel their sub and said we were harping. To me, you seemed like you saw people not liking what you purchased and broke down into a huge rant. I assumed you were not rational for calling others out on legitimate complaints, etc. Let me get to the point. You bought the item, and that is good for you if you didn't find it overpriced but you never responded to my point about how I can buy 3 costumes for less on another game and instead you took the easy way out and said don't buy it if you don't like it. I ASSUMED you were defending the cash shop based on your purchase and passive aggressive remarks to others.

And again, I thought your superiority came with your previous posts. If I got the wrong impression, i'm sorry. Still, our disdain for the mogshop is still feedback whether you like it or not. What irritates me the most is people constantly saying they will buy x for x. I mean, sure that's nice and all but not everything has to be on the cash shop. Some of these items can very well serve as crafting recipes or event items in game. As for the meaning of overpriced being subjective, I find it hard to believe anyone would think the purchase was satisfying, but that's just me I guess.

They said some stuff that was unnecessary before but that last big post by Blim pretty much sums up everything. There is no point in trying to argue about the value of things since everyone is going to have a different opinion and calling people irrational just because their opinion doesn't mirror yours is pointless and unnecessary rudeness also.

Some people just don't think $18 is overpriced even if you or I think it is and no one is right or wrong in this case really. It's all just opinions.

I kind of think of it like this...some glamours in-game cost millions of gil. I think the new Poncho they added recently was going for like 9 million on my server. Now 9 million to most players is a lot of gil to spend...a lot might think it is overpriced...but then you have those players with 120mill+ to their name (and also can make gil easily) and because of this 9million to them is chump change so they probably don't think of it as overpriced especially if it is something they really want.

And the in-game spectrum is even more vast than the spectrum of wealth IRL. I myself hover around 5-10mil gil, which I think is plenty, and it affords me enough gil for what I want in-game. Are there things that are beyond my in-game wallet? Yes, the HA Healing Coat, for example, was over 50mil when it first arrived. Did I complain? No, I went hard at farming the mats and making it myself; to this day, it is still one of my few 'crafter' self-achievements. However, I know plenty of people where to them 50mil is a drop in a bucket. They can easily buy up whole market-loads of materia for melding and not find it any trouble.

I personally find the min-maxing of crafter/gatherer gear "overpriced" in both effort and/or gil, so I don't aim for it. That is, however, my choice. Are we going to call those who min-max stats irrational? Are we going to look down on them for the gil/time they put in? So why are we trying to paint the same label over those who use their RL money to do the exact same concept? To each their own, I say; particularly if we're talking small scale like virtual items.

Objectively speaking, there is a limit to where 99% of people will look at a price for a particular product and go 'that's overpriced for what I get' but that limit is far, far away from $18 for a pretty dress. And SE knows it. They're a big company, and they will have market analysis of whether they can make a profit or not. They'll be far from that limit for a long time to come.

My guess is they're charging extra for the new outfit because its dyeable and thats their excuse.

The "Eastern Outfits" were made for the chinese and korean versions of the game run a lot more like a F2P mmo by other companies than S-E
ingame glamour outfits in those countries sell at exorbitant prices regularly, like 200$+ is not really as rare as you might think.

those outfits are sold at that price in the original countries and S-E got a ton of "bring those outfits to NA!!" so maintaining the price point is very likely just what S-E was forced to do to even have permission to offer them at all

Don't want to be mean or anything but with the system, those having money but no time are not excluded as you said but those having time and no money (yeah, even with a full day job) are, in fact, excluded so how is it fair ?

I don't ask for the disapereance of CS, not anymore cause I know it's useless and I'm getting tired of certain comments regarding my "crusade" like said earlier on other threads, I'm asking for fairness, a way for those not having extra cash to get those in game and "not be excluded" :/

As i said earlier on this thread (i think), im absolutely not against the CS if he still the way he is actually: only for glamour (something supposed to be optinnal).
The problem in my opinion is that they were too many new CS items recently. The fact that the income of items is more important in the CS than the game is something that bothers me (well the price of some CS items are just a joke too^^).
As my Master Celef said, i think that put a way to obtain those items in the game with difficult quests or achievements (anybody though about achievements rewards ? Haven't read all the 40 pages).

So people like you can buy it and people like us could simply farm'em. Everyone should enjoy this way :)

I see no issue with this, so long as whether from the CS or via ingame the items are the exact same thing. Equal from both sides and the player can decide if it is worth it or not. Time invest or money.

Example: Sleipnir Mount
Defeat Odin trial XXX times, sync'd party only (no unsync'd cheesing it)
and/or
XX amount of Odin's Mantles

However, we are not SE :p

Maybe it is rude but I don't like the people that ENCOURAGE cash shop items. There is always a thread where someone says "I will pay x for that glamour or x for that item" instead of encouraging it for an in game event or something. That's my problem. I don't buy much of anything in the cash shop because I feel the prices are too high, but the arguments against it seem to me to be going in the wrong direction. It's simple economics. If more than six times as many people would buy something for $3 than bought it for $18, they should sell it for $3; otherwise, they shouldn't. I don't know that SE has found the optimal price or anything, but I think you're more likely to get lower prices by pointing out that you'd buy stuff if it was cheaper than complaining about it being too expensive. You catch more flies with honey than with vinegar and all that.

All that said, judging by how many Chinese dresses I've seen in game, SE is doing a pretty good job understanding their market. Heck, if it was cheaper, the demand might actually decrease because it no longer makes you stand out (it hardly does as it is!). I'd rather get everything for free too, but I don't know what reason SE has to do that.

For that matter, while I'd probably unsubscribe the day they added actual pay to win stuff to the cash shop, if I were Square Enix and I calculated that the gains would offset the losses, I'd still do it. What can I say, my idealism died a long time ago, lol.

I very much doubt SE is setting prices based specifically on what someone on the forum says they'll pay for something. The prices are set by the market. You'll notice they've been increasing; that most likely means more people have been buying each thing than they originally expected, so they're trying to find the optimal price point. And it implies that these are, objectively speaking, not overpriced.

That's exactly the kind of things i've thinking about. Nice example !
Imagine a super-long quest serie (like the hildibrand one but with some hard solo instances with NPC) to get the others mounts, like a huge mog storyline to get the 2 places mount.

Yeah, I don't have to pay, that is correct and they have no bearing on my game experience but I like to believe in a world where these things were actually in game items. That is mostly why we pay a sub, right? We pay a sub and we pay for the expansions for more content after all. I just find it a bit excessive that the items are put on the shop through people here wanting them because they will pay a set amount for the items. You can say I am whining, fine. You have all the power to do so. I'm just trying to be reasonable here and encourage content to be put in the game. For the scion outfits, we should be able to get those through storyline objectives or learning about their backstory, for instance. I know it won't happen but I think it would be nice.
