When you add new content, based on old zones please use duplicate maps as separate files and don't just use the same map files for them all.

Modders like to make updated maps for content, and although developers are under no obligation to make allowances for this it makes it impossible to make modded maps for specific content. Since they all use the same basic map locations.

For instance Sortie uses the exact same map files as for Skirmish, and so if someone makes modded maps for Sorties they will also display in Skirmish.

More accurate to say the people that use them

Oh well? I mean really, what sort of ridiculous request is this? Its not happening. They aren't going to change how they do anything because of the convenience of modders.
I know it is a simple thing here, but it doesn't matter.

They always used to duplicate maps, only recently have they started reusing the same files.

For most of the games life, if they added a skeleton to the game they would add a new skeleton dat and this allowed them to make minor changes such as weapon changes. Now when they add a skeleton they instead link to an old dat file of an old skeleton.

The main reason seems to be to make smaller patches, to not have the "it takes ages to install" complaints the game used to have.

There is nothing wrong with that, however I think in this particular instance its better to have the maps duplicated and maybe they just don't think of it from the point of view of players that use mods. Maybe they don't care, which is fine but I'm just making a suggestion.

All "modding" is against the TOS so why would they accomodate it? I mean really?

A blanket ToS exists as a way to stop people doing stupid things and so hey don't have to write a 10 thousand page set of rules, the developers don't care if you mod or not and in many cases it helps the game.

Specifically talking here about map modding, which is widespread and we all know it.

There is no demand, there is no expectation, only a request and an explanation.

They can choose to ignore it completely, I'm still allowed to ask for something.

I'm on Bahamut, the second most populated server. It's a good compromise. The insanity of Asura just drove me up the wall. I couldn't even do Salvage.

Uh, no, the rules are binding and they certainly do care or they wouldn't enforce any of them at all. It's not just "hey, rules exist play nice okay?"
A rule being widely broken doesn't mean breaking the rule is actually okay.

As am I allowed to say why asking for it is nonsensical.

It's not nonsensical at all, lots of people use modded maps and if they make it so people can't make modded maps it will hurt the game.

This is the same reason Square won't add anti cheat systems to FF14 even though people cheat constantly in pvp and dungeons, because they need the gpose modders (that are against the tos) on there or will lose a lot of money. Every other modern mmorpg has anti cheat, 14 is the only one that does not.

It's 100% because of the modders doing weird things with their characters on balmung.
