I had the idea of "upgrading" your job to an advanced version of it a long time ago. Now, I have a lot of ideas and I don't want to post them all. Since this thread is already started, let me show you what I thought of.
It is very hard for SE to come with an advanced version of each job, so I thought it might be better to combine two jobs into one (Three might be an option?). You would have to have leveled both jobs to 99 (and perhaps have some skills that need to be capped) before you can upgrade both jobs into a new one. You will no longer have access to those old jobs. Your new job is level one, but you can wear any gear that has one of the old jobs on it. Now I made an example list, but thats all it is. I had some trouble pairing some jobs, like PUP and SMN. Other jobs were very easy to pair up, like BRD and DNC. I don't want to step on any peoples jobs with this, so if you have any alternative ideas you want to share, I would be interested.
WAR&MNK: Fighter
Strongest DD in game, lowest eva/def etc. All in/High risk.
BRD&DNC: Performer
Bind Songs and Dances together to perform them at the same time. Samba songs will overwrite themselves and Waltz songs will overwrite themselves.
BLU&BST: Pictomancer
Creates copy of target beast to fight besides you. The copy responds to Blue Magic you cast.
RNG&THF: Hunter
How about some SATA Sidewinders? Escape JA or other nice combinations of the two jobs? Someone else have some nice ideas?
PLD&DRK: Magic Knight
Tank with both black and white magic.
WHM&SCH: Geomancer
Entwines Scholar spells and White Mage spells into stronger effects. Helix/Storm adds elemental effect to White Magic. Example Stoneskin+Firestorm makes the SS effect receive double damage from Water element, but half damage from Ice and Fire. Allows Haste and Cure to be entwined and with proper grimore to have Curaga/Hastega built into one spell.
BLM&RDM: Time Mage
Meteor, Haste 2, Demi, etc.
SAM&NIN: Assassin
Movement speed job trait. TP gained when evading attack. When out of range to WS, automatically draws you in on mob to make it hit (you need to face it).
DRG&SMN: Caller
Summons various versions of Bahamut. (Could be a "Summon/Call" via JA/Magic or a "Transformation")
COR&PUP: Jester
Ultimate Hate controller through puppet. Strong DD, very high hate gain, but has JAs to shed it to pt member close to puppet.
TL;DR Version: Lose two 99 jobs, get one "Advanced" level 1 job, combined from the two lost jobs. Example list above.
