I hate RMT because I'm supposed to, but the reality is that back in the day they were the main synthers, they were the ones flooding the market with expensive +1s and gear that others weren't really synthing. I remember that once Square went hardcore after RMT, I noticed the auction house started to slowly have certain gear/weapons disappear, where there was once 15 of them up and 12 of them were +1s, now there is 1 up once in a while and +1s were becoming a rarity. So RMT had it's upside, the did the work that others didn't. I won't ignore the downside though, I couldn't camp any NM to sell the drops, then they changed the drops so they would drop rare/ex versions, then Square screwed us with Octave Club barely being a shadow of what the Kraken Club was, why were we punished for the behavior of RMT with the pointless limitations put on the Octave Club? That always bothered me...

I agree with you there Apie, the Octave Club is a horrible rare/ex replacement, and with some bosses the rare/ex replacements are just as horrible to get as the rare versions were. I thought I'd grab myself a couple of sam items from Oztroja for partying with in CN. After 8 boss spawns from Hoo Mjuu and 1 spawn of Quu whatever the rest of their names are I gave up. In the time I spent there hoping to get some decent items I could've already surpassed their use in a decent xp group.

thats not really the case actually... nor can it be proven... ppl stoped crafting period. It was a "waste" to buy crafted gear cuz nm drops was better. Not AH is near empty cuz all ppl do is burn in caves naked or in low lvl gear. till af or aby af.

also wish. Yoshida never went to blizzard... he went to their booth @ e3 to talk with some devs he admired.
but as u guys keep pointing out ffxiv is a different game don't talk about it in ffxi forums...

In the tone of this part of your post, you already have your mind made up, otherwise you would have posted impartially about it.

Personally I don't give a parp about RMT, casino's or any of that kind of activity. It happens, disliking it won't stop it, and it's always going to be there (although it's massively reduced now). Fighting a little personal vendetta on it won't change the world, and while I won't associate with them, they do keep economies in balance, as they want things to sell, whereas players tend to crash economies by undercutting and saturating a market.

If you do want an impartial response to a question, try not making the question so heavily against the subject you are trying to get a balanced opinion on though.

    @ onion

That train of thinking is a bit flawed with human behavior. Mostly dipicted over history and current events. Only the tolerance is preventing change. Rmt do not help econamies... And markets need to go up and down if the supply is high sell low if the demand is low sell high. But with use of auction houses this can't happen as we bid on items, not buy out right. We are just under the illusion cuz we tend to get the item right away @ the price of said item past history. Visit a real auction sometime. Pretty much ppl take item which get appraised, then placed on bids... and it goes to the person with the most money. PPl just use the AH like a market and deem value on price history... which can be silly as anyone can set any price, which is fueled with a community who will put up the money for it, rather then question the price.

also what u see as "under cutting" and "saturation" is basic supply and damand. Which happen in any real world market. prices are never stagnet... they always go up and down.

RMT are a natural expression of supply vs demand. Their current methods used to acquire said gil is also a natural expression of supply vs demand.

There is nothing you nor anyone else can do about it, especially if their doing legitimate gameplay methods to acquire that gil (FC burn / crour burn). Also remember, modern RMT are not a room full of chinese players working overtime, their regular players doing it for money who are selling it to the gilsellers. This is why their able to "get away" with it now, their actually doing things regular players would do to acquire gil, any attempt at SE to "crack down"on them would just ban tons of regular normal players. Aka the gardening bans.
