I hear that Blizzard will be implementing an auction house for Diablo 3 wherein you can sell your ingame goods and gold for real life currency. Blizzard will be taking a 10% cut. It's interesting to see how it will play out. Quite a bold and proactive approach to the RMT market.
I think it will end up being a bad thing. The problem with RMT is that it takes an in-game investment, a powerful item that may require skill/effort to acquire, and cheapens by making it attainable by less worthy players who happen to have a fat bankroll.

Its interesting in theory, but the reality behind it is that RMT wouldn't be a problem if it were just about the money being spent and who gets it --- its about the individual player and how they invest the currency they acquire, and how if you give someone who didn't work for it a million dollars, they likely wouldn't treat their spending of the money like they knew the value of a dollar.

Your assuming that everyone looks at the game the same way as you. Some people just don't care at all about gear, and find satisfaction from actually "playing" the game. These people see gear collecting as a boring time waster and would rather buy the gear so they will have more time to do fun things.

Other people don't see gear as a measurement of skill. They are usually long time gamers, who have alredy collected the world in gear on various different games, and dont want to be bothered with it anymore. (These are the kind of players that cause nerfs usually. Because completely naked they can play better than a noob with perfect gear, so when they finally get perfect gear, they achieve god-like accomplishments.)

I understand that some people get a great boost of self satisfaction after collecting a piece of rare gear, and that they feel cheapened when someone else gets that gear easily. But you don't have to look at it this way. You still put in the effort for the gear. Be proud of your effort if u want. It has nothing to do with someone elses effort.
Honestly i feel that this whole area of contention in the game is due to petty, low-self esteem, judgmental people pushing there perspective off on other people.

Also, sure there is risk that some completely worthless player might end up with good gear, but SO WHAT! Worthless players end up with good gear in the normal game. And these players are easily spotted. So what is the big deal. The way I see it, every worthless player that buys his gear with RMT, is 1 worthless player that won't spend points on gear the good players need.

(i have never participated in RMT activities)

When i first heard of RMT,
My honest reaction was "Awesome, people can make a living playing video games." As a long time lover of video games, this was very cool.

    Basic Game Design question:
After the first time something is done in game, what is the point of redoing it? This question addresses "Replay Value" which matters for all games but more so games with monthly subscriptions.

When you remove gear as reason to repeat a fight you have to come up with other reasons. In a game where gear matters no other reason is ever as strong. When there is no strong reason that monster isn't fought often if at all.

Also, have to be mindful of the continuity factor--cruor is the currency of abyssea, so where would they get the fat bankroll for supplying your gil? Next on the list would be zomg I hate running to a maw to buy my gilz...just let me do it with Horst and company.

Just a bad idea in general. Cruor is too easy to farm. Gil is too easy to earn. Money in general just doesn't have the impact now like it used to. I spent well over 2mill upgrading certain items last month, and I'm still about 1.5mill AHEAD of what I spent. And I never farmed or crafted specifically to earn gil. That's just off crap that has dropped while I was doing my normal crap in the game.
Most of my normal stuff that drops in Abyssea ends up dropping due to full inventory since the average event I attend tends to last 4 hours or so. The exact reason I wanted access to my inventory in abby cause I could make sure I had plenty of space to store stuff to npc later. I carry a lot of gear and have low inventory space. Maybe a npc to buy stuff in cruor would be helpful, better than dropping to the ground anyway.

come to think of it... it is kind of odd that you can't sell the doom tabars and stuff to an abyssea based NPC for cruor. Good idea.
