    *sigh* not this again.

Basic business tactic, the largest number of people play in Japan, the least play in EU they try to inconviniance the least amount of people, ie EU players.

Thats the reason they do it it just business nothing racist at all.

    /thread here.

Why not make it so maintenance only hits the "prime times" of those 5 time zones?
Probably because "prime time" is from 10 AM for people who do not work, and 6 PM for people who do work. So it is always "prime time" for someone. Personally though I wouldn't mind if we had maintenance during the day so that kids had to go out and play. Now it always hits evening when you want to relax after work.

They've actually been trying to keep it somewhat balanced I guess. This one kicked off around midnight their time, lunchtime on the US east coast, 9am out west. So, it is actually more likely to be a reasonable time for services to be down for the US and JP.

Just sucks that EU usually gets stuck in the middle, loosing at least half their primetime most all the time. But there isn't much to be done when you are dealing with 5+ hour maintenance cycles I guess.

Until they find a way to reduce the downtimes, it's going to be a mess.

I live in Europe and been playing since the US release and i agree the constant timing of maintenance (planned) hits us right between the hours of 6pm to 11pm. Which for those of us that work wipes out play on that day completly.

Fair is fair and its really about time someone else had a turn at this.

    What the heck?
Its like midnight-5am in japan when most maintenance occurs, stop saying they're doing it during normal business hours.

They just schedule it for after JP prime time, plain and simple. Why they do this, I do not know because they have never said, but I would be willing to bet its because that's when the least amount of people are actually playing the game, even though on every server I've ever been on this is not the case, the real time the least amount of people are playing is actually right before JP prime time.

If that was true, it would mean the average Japanese technician's work day is from midnight to about 6AM. I don't know a whole lot about Japan, but that seems a bit weird even for their standards. I'm fairly certain it's to avoid mainly JP and secondly NA prime time, which were the first places it was released for, and still hold the bulk of the playerbase. If, however, japanese technicians don't mind bending their sleep schedules for profit, it would be best to do it at around 4AM~6AM. That's out of their playtime altogether, after EU prime and before NA prime time, at least before EU events usually end (excluding certain Abyssea stuff) and before NA events usually start.

He didn't say anything against all EU. And I approve.

This... and make it a consistent thing. Outside of emergency maintenance (which is what they classed this one as), they should kick off all maintenance in the same time frame, on the same day of the month...like the 2nd Tuesday of the month at 0:00 GMT (take it's cues from the big companies like IBM, MS, etc....they've been doing this for ages). Maybe midnight GMT wouldn't be best... but you get the idea.

This way everyone knows when it's going to happen, and can plan their events accordingly. Whether it is a 5 hour or 11 hour maintanence window--you know well enough in advance that an update wil happen on that day, and can simply not plan to do any major events that night.
