Small Campaign Tweaks Suggestions! (part 20?!)

We've talked about this before, I've tried to dig it up and can't (My Search-fu is weak). either way, I thought maybe its time to bring this up for the millionth time.

Some Suggestions to update Campaign Battles:
Some time ago, We were blessed with an Exp/Allied Notes overhaul of Campaign. I believe they also buffed the mobs HP a bit, But I was wondering if we could do a bit more to update Campaign? Post your own suggestions, Mine Below:

*Allow us to Skill up In Campaign - Most Campaign Enemies are pretty low level, but this would help newbies and some players skill up a tad while enjoying the Combat of Campaign. *blah blah no exp lost* - This is 2011, Exp is a dime a dozen, This is no longer a valid reason for the nerf. Please :)!

*Un-Nerf Fortification Exp - This was nerfed for obvious reason Back in the day. please for the love of goodness Un-nerf it. No one bothers re-capturing zones because hitting a Fortification for 1 hour nets you 500 Exp. Its stupid. Please for the love of all thats holy Un-nerf this. When i can go to Abyssea and Kill 2 Mobs in 30 seconds for the amount of exp i get hitting a wall for hour, Something is wrong.

Heres hoping this is coming... At the very least, I'd really like them to un-nerf Fortification Exp, I dont need to get 9k a run on Forts, but 4.5k Would be lovely. You know, Something about 500.

Yes, skill ups and capturing areas definitly need adjusting. I never invade enemy areas because of this, fix it please.

Also, I'd like to see a raise effect given to all KO'd players at the end of campaign, with a 25% xp/notes penality (So people that are KO'd still get something).

If possible, players that DC during besieged or campaign and return can be allowed to receive their rewards (like the VW fix was supposed to do for VW but didn't...). There's few things worse than DC'ing and coming back to no notes, xp, or imperial standing after waiting for the event to occur and spending an hour or so of your time to do said event, just to DC near the end and get burnt when you relog.

Better average rewards from campaign coffers, such as more single currency and the occasional 100 peice.

Adding a second wave of higher level mobs, or perhaps adding a few higher level mobs to the current mobs, they could be called XXX's bodyguard or XXX elite shock troop, etc, whatever. Just add a few higher level mobs, it';s not as fun as it used to be because everyone walks all over the mobs. they all don't need increased levels, just a few to make it something more than it is but less than it was. right now, it's a shadow of it's former self.

The problem with this is that you still deal with lotting on top of it, especially if you did 90% of the work getting those lots and total strangers just joined your Union.

Honestly, I'd like to see more ancient currency as an incentive for Campaign Battles as well, which is why I support a conversion of large amounts of AN to 100 notes. Since you can get something like 200 currency a night (some can get much more, some less) from doing Dynamis for two hours I think it would be fair to be able to convert the amount of Allied Notes you'd earn from something like around three hours of Campaign Battles into a 100 note.

Buying Currency With Allied notes would be nice. But Can't make it too Easy or Relics will become even easier. Which would cause a lot of player lash-back. Which SE should consider.

A good trade off for that would be for us, to in return, also buy Alexandrite with Imperial Standing.

That's why it should be balanced to be a higher time commitment then Dynamis. Also considering how expensive it will be to buy one 100 piece in Allied Notes if it takes at least a few hours of work, you'd be spending quite a bit of potential gil from the sales of other things.

What's the max AN you can get in an hour? I can do numbers based on whatever result you give me and calculate how much potential gil it could cost a player to go the 100 piece route depending on how expensive one would be. Ideally it would be a fair amount above the market value of currency obtained from Dynyamis.

I don't see why not since the new Nyzul areas are supposed to have it too. As long as the amount takes more man hours then the previous alternative it should be fine... if you have a limited amount of time you'll just do the older methods or Nyzul whereas if you have a lot of time on your hands you can slightly boost the amount you get in a given amount of time at the cost of it being inefficient against farming gil (or even converting IS into coins/VW stuff/attachments and selling those) to buy Alexandrite.

I'd also imagine that both of these would require a fairly high rank/medal. I'm sure people would appreciate having a nice reward for having the highest rank. This brings me to my next point...

I think there isn't a big enough reward for the highest medal... I mean, you get weapons that only really work in Campaign Battle and a bunch of items that are broken outside of a Campaign Battle... so the reward for doing Campaign Battle is... getting better at Campaign Battle. I have a hard time giving my usual suggestion about similar latent effect items (such as Besieged and Assault latents) of making a key item that makes them function everywhere at 99 since some of them have effects like STR+25 on a neck piece - perhaps this would work but I really don't like to suggest things that SE might shoot down for balance reasons without checking it twice.

To give another unoriginal idea repeated again, even despite them being limited to Staff and Sword, I'd really like to see the weapon skills the Campaign weapons give have a questable component (perhaps such as "perform this WS 300 times" which would encourage more Campaign Battle). Perhaps to offset it other NPCs that do special WS could teach players everywhere how to use a weaponskill or even two... I know a Serpent General or two who has a weapon skill people would kill for example.

I'm sure I'll think of more obvious stuff to say that isn't exactly original later but there is just so much that could be done with the content to make it more equal with other options.

Adding more Campaign Weapons would be nice. I know theres at least 10 or So Campaign-Hero-Specific Weaponskills...

So on and so forth. Theres a lot of Campaign WS that would be cool to have access too. So much potential in this event, But its left dead in the water. its a wonderful idea, Could be more than a fun side activity with some effort from SE.

Could easily be revamped to be more rewarding and fun.

Currently all I do Campaign for is Getting exp on some of my lower jobs (90~) And building Allied Notes for Voiddust :O

Better idea, update those WS's to be half decent (most of them are super sucky) and allow the player to take on a quest to make the WS permanent. Make it like the Mythic WS's, get the weapon go use it a certain number of times in campaign battle, then trade it in and it becomes yours forever. I would absolutely love to have Uriel Blade amongst others, but currently not enough reason for it.

Another change, I would like at least, is to have the 3 nations hold off on sending in troops until a certain amount of damage is taken by the fortifications. Send in the healer NPCs in the beginning, but have players be the main force and only send in the attack NPCs if the fortifications take ~33% total damage needed to end the battle. Have a second wave of NPC's come once the fort takes an additional 33% damage. Basically don't send in waves of NPCs unless the players are struggling in the battle.

Skillups are always welcome.

I also wouldn't mind getting the campaign-WS. Throw in a few campaign-spells for the mages, I'm vaguely aware of a cure weakness ability Reviviscence, can make that a spell for healers.

I still like the idea of customizable weapons skills, so why not the campaign ones? Have a quest where you get 50k exp from campaign while equipped with the weapon and it gets a point that can be turned in the add an effect to the WS. A player could add 5 different weak effects onto the same WS or add multiple levels of a single effect to strengthen it. The WS is fully unlocked for a player once a WS has been upgraded 5 times. Special bonus to a particular effect if reaches 5/5 on a single effect. WS can be reset to base effect and built again, but WS is lost from other weapons until 5/5.

Examples:
MP Restore: 10% damage dealt => 20% => 30% => 40% => 50% + 25% MP Restore to party based on damage dealt.
WS Damage: +5% WS damage => +10% => +15% => +20% => +25% + Aftermath: Occ Attacks twice
Enfire: 5% of melee damage => 10% => 15% => 20% => 25% + Sphere: Enfire 15%
Critical: 3% chance to critical => 6% => 9% => 12% => 15% + Aftermath: Occ Doubles Damage
Save TP: 10% => 20% => 30% => 40% => 50% + Occasionally does not consume TP
AoE: Small circle around target => Line => Cone => Large circle => Large circle around player + Stun

These are examples so some are probably OP, but the basic idea gets across. You could upgrade one effect to get a special bonus or spread out points to get multiple effects. Personally, I think we have plenty of WS for damage, for utility we should be allowed to design what we feel we need for our playing styles. I'm less familiar with what mages would like for a customizable spell so if someone likes this method they can take a stab at some spell ideas.

I would be happy with the great sword weaponskill. Cone terror: yes, please. Actually I would be happy with just getting the weaponskills, and having them natively, not on a weapon. Since most of these will be situational.

The only issue I'd imagine there being if they added new weaponskills based on what various heros have is that some weapons would have way more then others (Sword and H2H namely).

Still, I'm for it as long as heros such as the Serpent Generals share their secrets too. :D

I'll list some threads from my subscriptions list, and some that I found with a quick search. Mostly I guess for my own fun (yeah, I know that's weird), and to see how many threads will come up without really digging in really deep. Some might find them interesting and didn't notice them before.

It's quite easy to see most of them are requesting for skillupses, and that's no surprise. There are, however, quite a bunch of other ideas thrown around, too.

Personally I don't think I have anything new in mind, none other that I didn't list here:

• A Few (More) Campaign Suggestions!

Basically, the ones on top of my mind I guess would be:

• Skillupses, yes, it would just work.
• Shorten the time between Evaluations (not that it affects me as I've got the Medal of Altana, twice, already).
• Re-locate the NPCs who give them Allied Tags as it is sometimes quite messy nearby them Fortifications which makes the process frustrating, especially if you want to join a Union, which has a few second delay for whatever reason between one of the options and even more frustrating will be getting Temporary Items.
• With that said, how about distributing Temporary Items in the same manner as in Besieged? There could be some sort of a payment implemented where you could choose either to have them or not have them and with a Medal of Altana, you would of course get them for free in any case. Perhaps the Medal one possesses could define how many/which items one would get. Oh, the possibilities...
• Adjust Fortifications, seriously... I'm sure there is something that can be done, if the EXP/LP yield can not be raised. I understand that one doesn't want players to just whack-a-wall for points, be it AFK or not, but yeah, this needs to be dealt with.
• Move the NPCs dealing with Sigil closer to where everything else is. For example, in Bastok, you have to run all the way to the exit to Port Bastok/North Gustaberg [S] to get the Sigil, and perhaps other items, and then all the way back to warp to a locations. Same goes with if there is a battle in Bastok Markets [S], and you run to get the Allied Tags, but forgot your Medal has expired. It's a very trivial issue, yes, but very annoying to have to run back and forth that much. If the PS2 memory resources are limiting the NPC amount around where the OPs and Warp NPCs are, then, move some of the other NPCs away as there are many that are not used at all.
• Make your opinions that are delivered to the leaders matter. I have a feeling they do matter, but no one really notices it and this, they do not give their opinion to them at all. Give some points for it, or have it really make a difference, that everyone can notice, especially now as not so many players are doing Campaign in the first place, this could be helpful. Though, seeing how little people are taking interest on Bastion, which has quite awesome effects to everyone in the area, the effect(s) would indeed need to be quite drastic.
• Auto-Reraise wouldn't probably be a bad idea, especially since the NPCs will Warp away immediately after a fight ends. I can't really think of how that could be abused, even...
• Enhance the Livery gear so that they boost your movement speed more, and in more areas, perhaps all the areas within allied-control. As a side-note, still haven't really noticed the other enhancements of them do anything...
• Add more useful gear, or ways to upgrade the old.

Oopsies, in the end, I could probably go on for quite a while... In general, I just wish this would not become like any other event that has been left basically alone by the players, being just a speck on the memory-lane, wasting space and server resources. It's a great system, and I've had some of the most fun times in the game while doing Campaign. It could be expanded upon, and renovated for the players of today in many ways, I'm sure.

Just some thoughts~

I for one need something to do not belonging to a LS and being 99% solo. If my fiance works, she's gone 13 hours while i'm at home some days doing nothing. Doing dyna 2x (once on each char of ours), salvage x1, assault x1-4 depending on how you wanna word it, and limbus (every 72 hours), I'm often left pondering something to do, most times its WoE for the pure fact there is nothing else solo to do (99BST) and sometimes its campaign. Besides getting back Medal of Altana, and getting the sword with AoE triple dmg, I cannot see any reason to do this. I want a reason to do this. Give me one please?!

Right now I'm doing Campaign for 2 Reasons

1) Easy Exp for some of my Jobs i left behind (MNK, DRG, etc)

2) Voiddust. 2k Notes = 1 Voiddust. Really helps if you spam Voidwatch often.

When trying to get my DRK from 97 to 99 without going back into Abyssea I went out to campaign to get some notes for cells/rank up for Fiat Lux.

One of my battles I spent beating on a Fort in For Karungo-Narungo for 20 minutes. If there was a Confederate mob up somewhere, it was pulled way away from the fort. Choose between beating on the fort or looking for a monster without widescan, I choose the former. After 20 minutes the battle ended and I got 57 xp. Whoo Freaking Hoo.

I relate this story for 2 reasons:
1: To support uncapping Fort XP. After this I just avoided area's not under Allied control to not waste my time. Because
2: Many times someone will 'catch' a group of incoming monsters to solo for XP. This has been happening since the inception of campaign, sure. It's always been annoying however, waiting on a battle to end for 20, 30 minutes because someone is gently trying to cuddle a beastman to death.

After what NeoNyzul seems to be though, I expect anything on this page about as much as I expect a Unicorn to visit me from the Land of Krom, to reveal that I am the once and evertrue Prince secretly exiled at birth to prevent my evil step Uncle from using me as a puppet to control the throne.

Sadly, they have not even bother to tweak or revise WoTG other than trying to make WoE slightly better (and still fail miserably). It would be nice if they could focus on fixing WoTG contents on next update. There are so many nice possibilities that is left unexplored here.

Bumping an old thread here, but if they do that I think they should remove the restriction of "Campaign only" on those weapon skills and just restrict it to the Shadow Reign era. Otherwise this thread is full of win.

Yes Please! exactly what i was writing in the other threads^^

SE will never adjust campaign because they don't want to admit that the reason why we don't get Strongholds and fiat lux is because they completely f*cked us on giving incentives for players to actually go fight fortifications. When that comes around everybody leaves, and some people even have it in their heads that it would be better if we just lose all zones just so we can keep doing defensive campaigns, get more exp and A.N. Its a shit attitude but its true. The sooner SE realizes that this is content we will probably rarely or never see, and admit that they f*cked it up, get over themselves with the damn skill up nerf because of the introduction of Abyssea. Than we might see some awesome stuff, but because this has been on the table for a long while and has yet to even get so much as a sniff from reps. I don't see it happening, which sucks cuz I love Campaign, pretty much grew up on it back when I was 70-75 and fully merrited on Campaign....

yeah same here i'm such a campaign addict thats why i keep going bumping all the campaign threads anywhen and keep them at the top til something happend

There probably is hope, but due to the lack of funds and/or people working on this all, it's not high on their priority list, and so, for Campaign renovations it will probably take quite a bit of time to start happening.

Maybe somewhere in 2014 or 2015? ^^;

They did mention their interest on improving this content in one of the several threads, but indeed, if it will ever happen, it will be in some Distant Worlds, I imagine...
