Housing Lotto - New Plot Acquisition Method

Okay, so hear me out... You know how when we open a chest on a Dungeon we get a timer to choose if we want an item or not? Why can't buying a house use this same structure?

You see a plot that you like, you go up to the placard and select "I want this place". And instead of telling me "No" and just leaving it at that, you put me up on a list of people that want the same plot. When the timer ends, everyone that put their name on the list just gets in a roll-off and you get the result via in-game mail or something...

What if the lists gets gigantic, like nearly half the server on each individual open plot that pops up? The chances of actually getting a house would be about as bad as they are now anyways. Except you would still be able to play the game while you wait for the timer to pop, which I believe to be fairly important.

What if people want to sign up for multiple plots? Let them, the loot system already carries a solution to that problem, just play it like the house is an unique item. You can "Need" 2 unique items, you cannot acquire the second item as soon as you get the first. Have houses be the same.

What about relocations? You have 2 options here. Either they enter a higher tier of rolling (Much like Greed and Need) or they instantly bypass the timer. It might be troublesome to then transfer the rolling people to the old plot, but it isn't impossible, is it?

What if people don't have the money to BUY the plot when they get it? Once again, 2 options, you can either charge them up ahead of time to roll on the plot and mail them the money back if they fail the roll (Bonus: This would limit people registering for multiple plots). Or have the person drop the cash on their retainer, if the retainer is caught without the cash, drop them from the list like they've just passed and reroll. I like the first option better.

What about bots? (Why does it always have to be about fighting robots?) Well, that is a bit harder. You could require the person to stay online to participate, maybe make the lottery be, like, a Duty or something that you queue up and show up in order to participate... You can even make it like an event, kind of like the saturday Jumbo Cactpot thing. But really, the only thing that stop bots are things that makes people's hard difficult such as positioning the confirming button on No by default, reminding me of the torture that I'm going through instead of just letting me mash mah button in peace. Kind of tough to think of a humane way to fight cheaters.

Ideally you'd be freed to do whatever while you wait for the timer, even log off and do your taxes or whatever. But even if you somehow make it so we have to stay there online in front of the place literally camping or channeling the sign, at least we can go AFK while the game runs the rolling on the background and I don't have to waste an entire day and night clicking my wrists off only to lose the plot to someone "Luckier".

I can definitely see something to be done about relocations. As I can appreciate it's not fair to someone at a placard that a spot they have been diligently waiting for is snapped up instantly.

I say this as someone who had an undeveloped Goblet plot for 3 weeks who then waited for a more suitable option in the Mist come up and sniped it from others waiting. I also have an ultimate spot in Lavender should it ever arise and wouldn't hesitate to do it again.

Yes, there's a cost for relocators, but Gil as a barrier, compared to a random timer are not comparative inhibitors. Ultimately, the entire limited numbers thing is completely BS anyway, and they have an opportunity with these upcoming Islands to do something, though I severely doubt they won't, the other option being that rooms in Guilds, or Apartments and physically expanded and ideally given a second floor. As while some will definitely want the outdoor aspect, it's a lot more bearable to get a place that's decent to decorate to begin with.

I'm not trying to start anything here, but I came from Tonberry and find housing to be much more Savage on Sarg, which is one of the smallest NA servers and still bigger than Tonberry.

I'm trying it on Behemoth, I don't know how it is on Tonberry byt at this point I'm recognizing my fellow homeless bums by name...

And thanks for compiling a list of topics already discussing this, ai've gone through most of them (Kind of disheartening that this is going on for that long and we still have to click placards at the mercy of a ghost timer.)

I guess the best I can do for that is having either the player queue up for a roll at getting it like it was a duty. Or literally chained to the Placard until it pops and then the rolls happens. Because one thing is for certain, one thing that everyone can agree with... The timers gotta go. And something gotta be put on its place.

The only alternatives would be highest bidder and that would mean cretins with way too much gil get to just lord it over people... Or I guess you can just queue people into a PvP Free for All, battle royale style. Last survivor gets to buy the plot.

Seriously though, we can't keep the timer. More precisely, my thumb can't keep up with what is necessary to buy a house with that thing in place.
