DX11 Crashes

[Darkstride]

Like many others, I have begun experiencing repeated DX11 crashes to the point where the game is nearly unplayable.

Prior to Shadowbringers, I had never experienced this issue and played with the same settings I am now (GTX 1080ti). During 5.0, I experienced a few crashes over the course of the MSQ, but it wasn't game breaking. I restarted the game and continued on.

Now within the past week or so, I experience DX11 crashes repeatedly every day at various points throughout the game without warning. The game just stops moving and I get the "DirectX Fatal Error" popup. Over the past couple of days this has become even worse and it freezes everything causing me to restart my PC. None of my hardware has changed, and this is the only game I experience the issue with.

Below is a list of various "fixes" I have attempted. Today the issue still continues:

- Used DDU to uninstall video drivers and installed most recent Geforce Driver.
- Tried rolling back to an older driver that was in use prior to Shadowrbingers.
- Re-installed FFXIV
- Used MSI Afterburner to lower clock speed
- Set FFXIV to Windows 8 Compatibility mode
- Disabled all startup programs for a clean boot

I still get crashes. Sometimes I can play for an hour, sometimes it's a couple of minutes into the game. There is no consistent location, time or event that appears to trigger it, which is why it causes the game to be exceptionally difficult to play. Last night I played for an hour without issue, but today I've crashed 3 times in under 30 minutes just trying to queue for roulettes.

Are there any other suggestions? I am doubtful that I have any sort of hardware failure given that this issue appears to be common and only takes place with FFXIV. There are various threads across this forum and others with the same or very similar DirectX Fatal Error issues. However, there seems to be no definite reasoning or solution.

I am still having DX11 crashes when loading/teleportation into major cities.

-The second post is more specific to loading into the Rhalgr's Reach or any dungeon that uses that areas loading screen.

I had hopped that the bug fixes and minor tweaks in the 5.01 patch would have fixed these issues and while the errors have slowed down while out in the main world I still can not load into a city with out it taking 20-30 min to have a stable enough game to teleport out.

Support Please provide us updates on what is happening and when we can expect fixes to occur so that we will be able to play the game we are paying for.

I just tried rolling back to an April driver (I previously had tried the most recent driver prior to Shadowbringers' release) and underclocked my GPU quite a bit. It's been stable with no crashes for an hour or so now. Fingers crossed. The biggest issue is the randomness. It doesn't appear to be linked to anything in particular. I've crashed standing still, in dungeons, in FATES, in Trials. My GPU is not overheating and there's no red flags as to what's causing the crash.

Same here, experiencing random crashes all over, no particular reason of crashes detected. They appear when i walk, stay or speak to NPC. Crashes started today, before that i played okay since last Saturday...I don't want to regret of buying this game and hope it's getting fixed soon.

I've been experiencing the same issue since Shadowbringers launched and quite frankly its gotten to be so annoying, I've almost flatout stopped playing. It happens anywhere, anytime, doesn't matter what I'm doing or where I am at, I crash a lot. I don't know why or how to fix it(if there even is a fix)

Same thing here. My game started crashing yesterday. I didn't install or uninstall anything, it just started happening all of a sudden. There doesn't seem to be any specific trigger, it just happens randomly. Sometimes the client crashes right after I choose my character and start loading into the game. Sometimes I get the error after an hour or two of playing the game. It can happen anywhere, though usually it happens when there are a lot of other players' characters nearby. I've tried everything that OP did except for reinstalling the game, which probably wouldn't help anyway. I really hope that it gets fixed after the next maintenance.

I'm going to tack on here as well. I've played Shadowbringers with no problems up to around two days ago when I had my first dx11 crash. Then today I've hit three crashes in a span of 30 minutes. I haven't installed or updated anything in at least the past week. Not quite sure why it would start crashing all of a sudden.

So far I've been able to play tonight without a crash. The only major changes I've made since I posted was rolling back even further to an April GeForce driver, and using GPU Tweak II to lower my clock speed by -125 or so to keep FFXIV from having an overclock tantrum. I've always played overclocked with no issues, though, so I'm not sure if that's even the culprit.
I also set my GPU fans to run constantly instead of auto adjusting. I had read somewhere that something might be causing the GPU to think it is overheating even though it's not, so in turn it just shuts itself down. This likely had no actual effect on the crash, but I did it and it's working so I'm keeping it that way.

I made a couple of other minor changes that likely had no effect on crashes, but may be worth mentioning. I noticed that if I Alt+Tabbed out at all, the game seemed to go into overdrive and push my GPU harder. I turned on the "limit framerate while client is inactive option" as a result. I also uncapped FPS in the game's settings and instead capped it at 60 FPS via the Nvidia control panel. The framerate holds at 60 consistently, where it seemed to get sluggish at times before.

Out of the changes I made, the driver change is most likely what helped. I had rolled back prior to this, but not quite as far, so perhaps that was the issue.
