    1v1 pvp?

Sorry if this has been asked before but how come this game doesn't have any 1v1 PVP? I mean there is a gladiatorial arena in Ul'dah but you still cant face anyone 1v1.

The search feature for the forums is a bit difficult to navigate so no worries
"Sorry - no matches. Please try some different terms."

    Is your link correct?

for a decent 1v1, all classes has to be balanced. not sure it's the case.

You could always do it in a PvP linkshell? I know groups sometimes just duke it out 1v1 when they are bored.

As Babette said, they would have to nerf every class to hell and beyond in order to make it work. And since pvp is such a minor thing on their list they not going to do it. They dont even patch their pvp game modes. They just throw some elements together, telling you its super cool and thats it.

Balance in dueling is not the best way to create balance for PVP as a whole.

    Some Job's fortes aren't for killing & that's OK.

A healer won't necessarily be as effective of a duelist at killing as a DPS which specializes in it (sure, they could sustain themselves long enough to triumph, but that's the strat & it's feasible).

A tank won't necessarily be as effective of a duelist at killing as a DPS which specializes in it (sure, they could defend themselves long enough to triumph, but that's the strat & it's feasible).

Some Jobs will naturally be more dependent on allies than others & that's OK. Or more of a team-player than a solo one (also OK).

Job Balance in FFXIV's PVP is actually pretty great if you utilize your entire kit & pay careful attention to statuses. For instance, most people don't know the sheer beast that is Blizzard II in PVP.

I've mained each of the trinity in FFXIV's PVP in all formats, they're each viable in their own right & shouldn't be balanced for dueling... there's a reason dueling balance takes the back-burner in MMO's & it's because they aren't 1v1 arcade fighters, they're Massively Multiplayer Online games.

All to to say, I support dueling for this game (albeit, segregated to a degree, given the mass of players opposed to it bothering them), it just shouldn't be catered to per se. The Jobs are designed with group-play in mind & it should remain as such so as not to diminish the vital balance of group-play PVP.

Exactly. Let me quote myself from another thread on the same subject:

Does every feature have to be so perfectly balanced? I'd rather this feature exist for fun and be terribly imbalanced than to have it not exist at all. Just don't tie anything to it - no achievements, ratings, points, or whatever else.

I wanted it, want it, and will always want it.
Duels don't need to be balanced. They just need to exist. Given the right tools - such as a dueling system - players can make their own fun.

SE doesn't really want you to kill each other. They want you to keep doing pve content with pvp. After all, nothing is more fun than achieving objectives and killing nodes, right?
