I really hate the duty finder

I literally cringe every time I have to use the thing. The potential for it to screw me over is so great because it is so poorly designed.

Number one problem is the wait time. I shouldn't have to wait longer than 30 minutes for any dungeon. Otherwise, what is the point? Sometimes I just have an hour or two to play and by the time the duty finder pops, my time is gone.

The excessive wait time leads to two other issues:
1) After waiting 30+ minutes I get completely bored and start browsing on the internet or doing other stuff. Then duty finder pops with its 30 second warning and I miss it.
2) I switch to crafting to try and alleviate the crazy wait time by being productive. I'm in the middle of some HQ syth and duty finder pops. I have to break my syth immediately and switch jobs and click go. Most of the time I don't make it.

So I'm left with option 3 which is having to just sit in one place and stare at my duty finder window for 60 minutes until it pops so I can click it within the 30 seconds it give me. Could you possibly make this at least a little more user friendly???

Other problems are also exacerbated by the excessive crazy wait times. AFKers, people who leave mid party, people who leave upon pop of duty finder, undergeared people -- none of this would be that big a deal if you could immediately pop in with a new party of people.

Adding insult to injury is the fact that when you finally do find that special group of intelligent people and come away with the win, your efforts earn you an instant disband with no option to repeat.

Please tell me there are massive improvements coming for this tool. Please.

All I can think is imagine how sweet it would be if the duty sound would be loader and pop up even while being outside of the game doing something else on your computer. Just like dota 2 for example, you can't miss that sound and you can hear it doing other stuff on your computer

You can enable in-game sounds while the game runs in the background. Still hear other stuff, but you can stay in an inn room and turn off BGM and it should be quiet other than the queue pop.

I did not know that. Thanks for telling me. Still I wish the same would stand out a bit more as I can imagine it's still fairly easy to miss

You know what really grinds my gears? Queing for AK with a pre-made 4 person group and having to wait 25 minutes for an instance server to have a slot for us. Thats effing ridiculous.

Is it possible to run into AK and bypass this? If so, Duty Finder really needs some work.

@OP *raises eyebrow* it takes you over 45 seconds to change your gear? I've definitely gone downstairs to grab a drink, which expands to throwing the ball for the dog then stopping in at the bathroom and missing my queue pop but I've yet to come even close to failing to throw on a new set of gear. And yes, if you set up the options correctly you can make it notify you with a sound when it pops.

As a DPS I expect the 30 minute wait for a dungeon queue, you can't expect the DF to force people to roll tanks/healers to alleviate that. Though SE has been talking about implementing a bonus for playing roles that are needed most at the time, which should help a bit. As dragonflyseksparade pointed out the only real issue is the fact that we don't have a dungeon server which can handle the overwhelming amount of AK farming that goes on everyday.

Having to plan in a 30 minute wait before even starting a dungeon while already having a full group is garbage. What do you think happens when you make 1 dungeon for myth stones? Upgrade the dungeon servers already quit wasting are time! And act like a leader in the gaming industry, not a whiny company that fails 2 launches and asks us to be patient. Some HQ pieces take about 2mins~ to craft, give or take.

Um, if you're AFKing out because you're alt-tabbed, how about turning on game sound when the game is minimized? Its in the settings. Problem solved.

I had an AK pop on me as soon as I started a 1star green recipe. I clicked fast and completed the item, I hqed it with an 80+% chance, closed my crafting window, changed to whm, and clicked ready with about 5 seconds to spare. I suppose if its the first time you've crafted something or you're still new to crafting it may take that long, but 2 mins is a long time!

You can guarantee HQs if you take your time ~

depends on your crafting gear and what other cross class abilities you have. based on my gear and limited cross class options, ~80% was the norm for that particular item unless I get an excellent condition popping up.

Even now that I have cross class abilities, it certainly doesn't take me 2 minutes to get to 100% hq chance.

I have most of the useful ones. There's a very slow but sure method you can use to almost guarantee you HQ - roughly 60 out of 62 of my last profit synths (mostly 1star synths) have been HQ.

HQ everything while levelling up new crafts too, at least post level 20 or so.

No gambles involved and it's slightly on the slow side, but 100% HQ rate all the things!

when i was leveling and used DF for dungeons i runed the game in window mode and watched youtube/films in window mode as soon something was ready i was in. you can drag the df window into a corner so you can see it when it pops while you doing other stuff

I should of been a healer or tank x.x

It'd be nice if the 'pop up' timer was increased to two minutes. I've gone to grab a drink, answer the door or attend to another short errand and literally missed hitting 'accept' by mere seconds upon my return to the game.

Actually, healers and tanks got heavy waiting times, too. Serverplaces are getting rly rare these days..

I usually try to just fight random mobs/ hunting log/ or levees. Levee's don't always work though because if you "commence" during one you fail the levee. If only you could pause the levee or something. *shrug*

I'm on PS3 so I really don't have the other problems, but I really don't understand why it takes SOOOOOOOO long. I'm DPS- I'm expecting a longer wait than healer or tank...but sometimes I'm waiting for 45 mins- 1 1/2 hour. Yeah!

Save your gear sets! Then it's just one click to fully gear up / change class! That'll save you SOME time, at least!

Then drag them to a bar, so it takes less than a second to change, if you aren't in combat.

Maybe healers, but I never have as a tank. Any dungeon at all, any of them, is an instant invite. The only time I wait on a dungeon is AK if there's a wait period to actually get in, but I already have a group the moment I sign up. The longest I have ever waited for a dungeon invite is about a minute or two, but 99% of them are instant. The longest wait periods are actually primal fights (in which the regular primals people have no reason to do twice so there are less in the queue), and even then for hard modes Ifrit is more or less instant, Garuda can take a few minutes, and Titan can take up to 20 at times, but I attribute that to largely where the community is at in content.

If people took their time and talked people who are new to this game through a dungeon maybe, just maybe, they will treat other players the same way.

If people just act like a$$holes then everyone will act like a$$holes.

And what do you get with an mmo with a bunch of a$$holes?

And that is what you get for anonymous cross server duty finder, no more reputation on server to watch and care, so lets be assholes.
I never understood Blizzard, they made mmo game (ie. community based) then they ruined community with LFG and LFR.
Cataclysm was best example, it is first "MMORPG single player game without roleplaying" ever.

Never had to wait much as tank , that's probably because there is only a few of us. I can understand people not wanting to play tanks tho , just like healing , it isn't everyones cup of tea.
