new players please do Guild hests

For those of you who are completely new to a MMO( or others who have transferred over from something else) please Run guild hests, it will make all the difference when you jump into a dungeon and play your role. Reason i am posting this and saying this is because i just got done doing some runs(about 12 in total) and in abut 4 or 5 of those cases i ran into 2 Tanks and 3 Cnjs who didnt fully under stand what they were supposed to do. Obviously i helped them out and ran through the best we could but the GH's help and explain your role in a 4 man group and let you understand what to do. So please run your guild heasts :P).

Amen to the tutorials. They're quite well done actually. You forgot to mention the massive amount of xp you get for finishing a guildhest for the first time, as an added incentive.

Remember the best results come from using both the carrot and the stick.

Shoot I already know how to spam Stone on WHM.
In all honesty I forgot all about Guild Hests, I will have to give them a go.

I also encourage every new player to do all of them once for the EXp it gives ;)

some new player doesn't know how to open guildhest, because you need to talk to some battlemaster in your starting area..
imo it should be auto opened once you reach level 10

(and do you realize that guildhest is like a simulator of your next dungeon or trial?)

I'm a complete noob to MMO's , but the first two dungeons went without a hitch (almost).

I would love to try these guildhests but I haven't seen any. Where do you get them?

it's at the battlemaster npc of your first area (if you are marauder then it should be la noscea)
pretty sure its on swiftperch, western la noscea

oh cool... i didnt know they included 8man guilsleve.. :) i was kind of wondering how a xungeon works with so many ppl and if it was like 2 healer, 2 tanks and 4 dps :).. good to know these also have 8 man practice ...

The introductory Guildhests are a must.

Basic Training: Enemy Parties (Level 10)
Under the Armor (Level 10)

Both the above are very fast and should cover roles in a reasonably non-lethal way.

Basic Training: Enemy Strongholds (Level 15)
Hero on the Halfshell (Level 15)

Reinforce on what the two starter ones did and get the point over that you must pay attention to the objectives - especially in Hero on the Halfshell. How many of us have screamed at people to quit attacking the turtle!

All these are fast to complete and also not a bad way to get a bit of extra coin and experience as you are questing.

I encourage people to do them all before the story quest dungeons.

And please please please read the directions for the GuildHests. They exist to teach you how to handle certain situations. You don't just run in and zerg things. There's one where the goal is not to kill something but weaken it and sleep it. Just read the directions and make sure everyone else has, too.

I'm not familiar with terminology at all. Every game calls it something different.
Are these guild hests the missions the guild master sends you on or something else?

Guildhests are like mini dungeons, you get them the after you start leve quests and they are a good way to gain exp in a short amount of time. They really are vital to learn how to team instead of solo and this is really useful for all characters but more so for DD classes I would say as they seem to be firmly fixed into the "run in and nuke them" mindset which will not work in a group

My problem is they start out too easy and thus teach nothing. The first two amount to: Pop up 50 help items which you should ignore because your group is going to just pull all the mobs anyway. It's faster.

That means that people going into the level 15 instance, even if they did the level 10 'hests, are taught to zerg.

I usually recommend Guildheists to the new players, especially when I run Sastasha and I see they are struggling.

Some take heed to my advice, some, well, think it's insulting, but I tell them, if they don't break this zerg mentality, attack anything they please and expect the white mage to heal everybody constantly, they're in for a rough ride in the later dungeons.

If DDs do that when I'm healer I'll warn them the first time. At that point I'll give the benefit of the doubt and assume they made a mistake or didn't know better. The second time I'll let them die. And I won't Raise them. They can HP. If they do it again, I won't heal them again, and will ask them to please stop or leave. Or I will. If they still do it again, I'll leave. I'll take the penalty. It's better than the headache.

I'm new at tanking...but I've discovered that the marauder works better if he doesnt't stand still. Did you know there's a sliding slash move? Just discovered it the other day.:)

That's pretty much my mentality when I'm healing. Had a DRG in Sastasha who would just run in and aggro everything but the kitchen sink. Did it twice in the first 5 minutes of the dungeon, told him to stop and let the tank pull and I'm not healing you if you keep that up. He continued with his merry ways, and I followed up on my word. I think he died a total of 20 times. Tried explaining the mechanics of dungeon parties, but I think it fell on deaf ears. We finished the dungeon, somehow, I think it's impossible to fail that dungeon. Before we parted ways I politely recommended Guildheist to him. Don't know if he got the message considering he ignored every bit of advice me and the other experienced player were trying to give.

Also, don't be afraid to speak up if you're unsure about something. Running through a dungeon for the first time? Speak up. Yes, there'll be those who will put you down, but there are people, like myself who'll assist as best they can. As long as people are willing to listen, I'm willing to help.

The first guildhest should have a warning like: If the DPS pulls the packs, mobs will do more damage. It's the one thats litterally harder than the others.

i like how you can't read the 50 help items that popup during the guildhest because everyone just goes in for the kill when it starts

hahah very true, most of my guildhest always have impatient and clueless dps

try to do them with the character that u plan to be ur main; so that you practice ur role for the future... (u can repeat them, but is nice to get the bonus exp in ur main class :P )

I think there is a certain level requirement, or it could be quest progression.
I only discovered guildhest between the levels 12-15 I think via questing, can't remember the exact level.
But i'm sure you'll discover by hitting a specific level or via quest progression.

Must be per questing because mine finally opened up tonight along with Inn privledges and the armoury vault.

Healers need to stop using Medica spam.
I'm glad they get caught in GH and stop that mess.

/rolleyes at healers that think they're "teaching dps a lesson" with dirt naps. No, you're not. You're just making your run that much slower. Those people that are bad in the later dungeons? They are bad because they are idiots, not because a guildhest was zerged through.

The first 3 guildhests don't even need a tank, you can heal a dps with every mob on them without issues. Same for the first 2-3 dungeons. I know this because I healed the first two dungeons with "tanks" that couldn't keep a single mob on them. Never went under 80% mana still. The tanks were very apologetic, but we carried them easily and moved on with our lives. Same with the first few guildhests, tanks zone in and pull the whole room, lose aggro on everything, it wasn't hard at all to keep the dps alive.

That is why I say they aren't worthwhile. Except for a healer throwing a fit about "doing it right", you can be done in under 5 minutes by just zerging the entire room.

Then you didn't get the point of the guildhests.

The problem is, people aren't taking the time to learn what the hests are trying to teach. They aren't meant to be difficult, but they are meant to be done a certain way to teach mechanics.

And yes, 80% of the people who suck when they get to dungeons, zerged through hests instead of learning their roles and doing them correctly.

The only time I've ever quit a dungeon first was when I was running Copperbell as a tank. I had a THM that would only use Blizzard II and Fire II and a healer that would only use Medica. When I asked them to stop, as they were making it impossible to hold hate, they told me to stop talking and just run the dungeon and that I was a bad tank for losing aggro. So, I left.

I have a black mage...she isn't much good in a group at level 11 except, she can caste haste. Otherwise not impressed with my attack options. So maybe not all the blame is on the people...might be the game mechanics they chose to keep.

Congratulations on completely missing the point of GuildHests.

Good luck having the time to read any of the tutorial tips in the first couple of Guildhests. The groups I was in for them breezed through the content inside 3 minutes each time, and the only way I could get involved was to close a tutorial window as soon as it opened. Even if you approach them with the right attitude you can pretty much guarantee you'll be the only one who does. As such I found them a complete waste of time.

Even then you get the right folk sometime. Even just running them and actually playing your role so you see what its like helps big time. Some do it for the XP, so do it to learn.

I haven't done any of these. any1 teach me in game? ;X

Sadly this is the case I have seen also and if wasn't a long time MMO player wouldn't have had a clue other than kil kill kill.

I'm new to tanking as well, and I did get into a bit of trouble tanking in my first dungeon. I got kind of focused on leveling, and forgot about the Gildhests too. I did go back and try them again, try are good for refreshing yourself on how to perform your role.

This is only my second MMO and I haven’t done any of the Guild Heists as yet, so I don’t mess it up for others in my party any tips for me thanks..:o

Read the instructions for the guildhests, other then that just have fun.

They start off pretty easy and slowly introduce different aspects, so you shouldnt have a problem.

Yup!! Did that on the beta phase. I was the tank and I kept hitting the turtle. Then I died and I could finally read the messages in the chat telling me not to do it. Also the healer wrote that he let me dying. I felt so embarrassed.. :D

They are very helpful indeed, 2 GHs per 5 levels post level 10 and that alone stacking with FATEs and current quests is a great way to level fast, but be sure to follow your storyline because it opens a lot of fun doors for you.
