What do you think about spamming FATEs and Dungeons ?

Hello everyone.
I don't speak English very well but I hope you get the idea.

I'm currently between Lv40-Lv50 and all I do is spamming FATEs with other players or spamming Dungeons with my friends, I mean it's like playing the same level again and again at Mario games right ? except Mario is challenging but FATEs just participate at killing 2 or 3 mobs and you'll get 10k-20k exp
and spamming FATEs 30 times for 3 hours just to get to the next level ? from Lv42 to Lv43

I mean don't get me wrong I like when things are more rewarding but only when you do "interesting" stuff for 3hours like "meaningful quests" <<< which is lacking. not just FATE spamming !!
However, the Dungeons are much more fun although 3 mobs at each corner from the start to the end is meaningless !!
Bosses are interesting. 3 monsters at each corner not!

I have alot of thoughts in mind but my thoughts doesn't matter, does it ?

You don't need to do fates. I only do them in between dungeon finder and levelling DoL.

Start an exp party and venture out somewhere dangerous. Sure, you won't get the same exp/ph (geez...this isn't a job!) but you'll have way more fun.

Also, work on you hunting log, if you haven't already. This helps massively when levelling other classes.

I repeat. YOU ARE NOT FORCED TO FARM FATES! And I agree, there is no skill involved whatsoever using this method.

I love hunting log between Lv10-Lv30 it gives you a huge bounce and so fun to go from area to area to hunt different monsters specially when they're above your lvl. I did everything in the game I only do Dungens and FATEs to lvl up and unlock story quests.

And yes no skill involved whatsoever in FATEs but in Dungeons skill needed .

I think it's about right for an MMO that mimics the "standard" design these days.

I'll pass on hours and hours of fate grinding when the fate mobs dissolve in less time than it takes to apply an instant cast. And the fates themselves end about 30-60 seconds after the horde gets there. Coerthas has worn me out.

IMHO: If they are going to mimic Rift and GW2's form of dynamic content then they need to mimic the way Rift and GW2 scale them up based on zone/area population.

Dungeon xp needs to be at least doubled.

Oh here I was trying to figure out some formula for how that could do it in another thread, but simply scaling it up based on players in the zone would promote the social side of the server, rallying people together to actually achieve something! I would love for some of the NM's to actually feel like bosses, or missions like Defence of the Hive in Quarrymill to actually require some defending!

I'm pretty sure the FATEs were meant to be like 'dynamic quests' akin to GW2, but instead, as mentioned, it is one button instant cast spam, and aren't very 'questy' at all! That, and I don't recall an actual quest that gave me 23k experience for 60 seconds of 'work'.

You are seriously overestimating the value of the hunting log. After level 20, you *might* get a level off your entire log for that level group. The word "massively" is a huuuuuuuge exaggeration.

Before you ask this question you should ask yourself:

What do you think of spam killing the same SINGLE MONSTER type for hours to level up?

Seriously, how is that better than what we have now? Because that's the alternative most people are begging for. When you're doing fates or dungeons, you're moving around, you're fighting a variety of enemies, there's more stuff going on. At WORST, it's more exciting than the typical kill colibri monster for 3-4 hours we had in FFXI.

Fates and dungeons are far better than what most games offer you to level up.

Grinding is grinding, and nobody can invent a level up system that changes that. If it takes time, it's going to get dull eventually no matter how you design it. I'm not fooling myself- its a simple fact. there is more variation in fate and dungeons than there is in single mosnter grind parties. You're the one who's fooling yourself if you belive otherwise. Both are grinding, but one is less terribly boring than the other.

no you can't, lol. And how is this different than a rotation of fates with different enemies anyway? In FFXI, this is actually discouraged. Moving around to fight different things pre abyssea was often dangerous and not worth the trouble. Post abyssea, you're punished for killing a variety of monsters- you NEED to kill the same ones over and over to get the best XP.

TL;DR. There's only so much you can do to make leveling fun, especially past the first time you do it. Leveling up is a starting point, not the whole game. I can't understand people who live for the grind of leveling up and ignore all the other content in the game.

The problem is that you don't kill a variety of enemies during FATEs, you spam your instant casts for 40 seconds, then go sit back in town until another pops up and you do this again. If the FATEs went for the 'intended' duration, or lasted 5-10 minutes each (depending on the FATE), then it would be far more exciting. It would even bring dungeons in as an alternative because they'd be on pretty even footing; Dungeon takes about 60 minutes and nets you X experience while 60 minutes of FATEs would also net you X(x) experience, not XXXXXXX experience.

At least in a mob grinding party you can actually do a rotation and 'fight' the enemies.

do whatever you enjoy. if FATEs are annoying you, switch over to Dungeons; if both irk you, you could even go explore maps (I get like 30+k exp for completing 1 set of map in late 40s); if none of these interest you at all, and you have no more quests to do, then maybe take a break and level another class/gather/craft or help out FC/LS mates with stuff.

No matter what you do, do it often enough it becomes a grind. However, the prospect of getting 50 (for a myriad of reasons - I am very motivated by the ability to don the full AF for example) usually provide sufficient drive for players to get over the "grind". That being said, if EVERYTHING in the game feels boring to you, then maybe this just isnt the right game for you and do not feel bad to face it and accept it :)

I have to level 8 classes to 50 in order to be able ot achieve the max utility I desire, quests are only enough to feed 1 maybe 2 classes, so that means the other 6 classes have no way to level other than fates....keep fates the way they are

I think it is super duper boring.

I learned how to play all my classes in FFXI leveling up in exp parties, I only learned how to tab bio/aero and spam stone leveling SCH and WHM in FF14. I learned what every single ability did, how to use it, how much damage it did, how much enmity it generated, how it skillchained, what were effective combos, how to manage my mp, what stats were good for my class, what food was good for my class, how every other class worked in a party set up besides my own, what was my best way of healing or dealing damage, etc. In FF14 I learned that bio and aero are good for tagging enemies quickly and Blizzard2/BLM is the best for tagging mobs and gaining exp in fates.

Just because this is the case, it does not make it good design. When did you plan to get all these classes to 50? In the next 2 months? How long are you going to keep resubscribing when you've completely maxed out all your classes? How long are others going to keep subscribing when they've maxed out all their classes? The current state is going to end up hurting SE just as much as it will the players when everyone has maxed everything, and start logging on less and less until they stop subscribing.

What worries me more is when you join one of these groups and see an excess of tanks/healers, and you know they'll be 50 eventually and have very little clue in a dungeon/raid. I'm currently working on WHM now after levelling SCH, so I have the general idea of healing and positioning as a healer, but even I poke my head into dungeons to figure out the differences between the two classes and find out how it works in a 'real world' scenario. I guess it is a good thing I have made some good friends to run with at level 50 when I get there. :)

Better scaling fates for high population zones would be great too.

I come from the background of the old-style leveling parties of FFXI, where players just sat in one place for hours on end pulling mobs that you fought in order to get EXP. Occasionally you would stop to let the healer rest to get MP back (or not if there was a BRD in the party with Mage's Ballad), but for the most part it was hour upon hour of just sitting in one camp, farming the same mobs, and once you got past a certain level, you'd move to another camp and do the same thing.

For me, running FATEs and dungeons for EXP is a significant improvement over the EXP parties of the past that I had participated in for two very important reasons. 1) You're not sitting in the same place doing the same thing. Sure, the tasks you do may be repetitious, but you're always on the move to that next area and the tasks you perform in order to get the gold rank change so you're not always doing the same thing. 2) Income. While it may not feel like a whole lot (and it probably isn't, since XIV has a notable issue with the amount of new money coming into the system), you ARE getting significantly more income in the form of Gil and Free Company Seals than you would be just farming monsters. On top of that, running dungeons appropriate to your level while running FATEs gives you the chance at really good gear that could last you a significant amount of time, again not something you would get if you just farmed monsters.

It's not a perfect system, as the income could be better and I'd like to see a slight boost to dungeon EXP, but I consider it a massive improvement over the old EXP party.

You're correct "quests are only enough to feed 1 maybe 2 classes" but I don't ask to change FATEs !! We need more verity of contents that are interesting and make us experience good times of doing them because of them.. When I do FATEs I only enjoy when I achieve the next level but the 3 hours spamming isn't fun, it's just waste of time. I rather waste my 3 hours in something useful and rewarding, and FATEs aren't useful but rewarding.

Since you guys talk about GW2 I have the game I stopped playing 6 months ago but I actually played it for 100+ hrs and what's interesting about it is I only discovered 60% of the map and every new area I go to there's alot of different [Heart missions] and amazing dynamic events and badass bosses that sometimes kills all the players around.

but here I already tried all FATEs to Lv49 and discovered all the map in 4 weeks.

No one said we wanna get rid of FATEs and Dungeons, actually having them much MUCH better than not.

+ more content and [Hard long quests] with more than 10k exp

i think the trouble is not the FATE, but the exp gain from dungeon and leves. (people tend to forget leves, or use it only for craft/gathering)
people do fate, why? because is the best ratio exp/time, better you get gils and seal if you are good enough.
when a dungeon can end without gaining any gils or loot. (the rng can be a b.... sometimes)
leves don't give enough exp or gils, without forget they are limited.

we know the 2.1 will bring dailies, but they really need to think to how balance the gain of exp/gil from dungeon and leves, maybe when they will have do this, the fate will be less zerg.

I wasn't saying that, either. I put that is so that someone reading my pose knows where I'm coming from when I say how much I enjoy FATEs and Dungeon running.

FATE is fine the way it is but need some tweak. Mobs need to last a lot longer so that its not 2 mnts zerg. Dungeon xp does need to be doubled, more daily rewards for running random dungeons, and more incentive for higher levels to level synch down for lower dungeons (which they will do in future patches). Right now, I do agree that most people would rather do FATE grind party than training how to play the game doing dungeon run. This will be causing a huge problem later on when everyone at 50 and trying to do harder contents.

My problem is people are making it sound like it's a better alternative when it's really not.

Leveling gets dull for a while no matter how creative or inventive they get. It's just a fact of repeating any given activity.

I've yet to meet a MMORPG that can stretch out progression long enough to keep people playing without making any aspect of it at least somewhat repetitive and tiring after the first time you go through it.
