I don't I need to talk about what's wrong with Gridania just FIX it SE!!!!!!!!
How do you fix what isn't broken?
That's a lot of exclamation marks for a zone you only have to go to if you're doing a story quest or class quest of some kind. >.>; Seriously, calm down. lol
I love Gridania. Some parts of The Black Shroud is trivial though.
They said they going to try and remake some part of it :) just wait it coming
Yoshi P: "Well, folks, what do you think? Should we change Gridania?"
Devs: "I don't know, boss. We could do it. There is this post on the forums where the guy used 24 exclamation points."
Yoshi P: "24? Nah. If he'd used 25, maybe. But if he only used 24, then he can't feel too strongly about it. Let's move on to more important subjects."
Devs: "Well, we're running out of exclamation points in the forums. Apparently, one guy used up an entire year's worth of exclamation points in one forum title...."
The squares and angles of the Black Shroud make it look manufactured and cheap.
Hardly fitting of a twisted forest.
Travel around the Black Shroud zone is horrible
just implement the chocobos
The entire black shroud needs to die in a fire.
But to be fair, some of the areas where rank 70-90 mobs roam are pretty neat.
And Ul'dah has no corridors between the guilds?
Gridania is very nice.
In Black Shroud, instead, some parts should be more open. I would love to see some parts similar to these:

Where you can actually pass through/under the trees. And some clearings (with very sparse trees) here and there.
(like this: http://wbrody.com/clearing.jpg)
lol i almost wish they dont change the forest so mr. exclamation mark pops a vein
Thats so beautiful. I imagined that is what the forest outside of Gridania would have been like. I really don't like the labyrinth/grid feel of the zone. Looking something like the images from your post would would most likely increase the population of that city as well. Nobody likes ghost towns.
There is a reason that area of the game is so empty. Nobody want's to play in it. Worst zone ever created in mmo, you feel as if you were in an endless loop, everything looks the same and you can only go forward or backward.. ugh. Hate this place. They could delete the whole area and most people would happy probably.
Real productive thread you got there. Ps- Grid's probably toast soon anyway.
Plus, shouting isn't going to make them appreciate their players anymore and fix things faster. #Sheesh
When they first announced Grid as being a city in the forest. I was thinking something like "Zitah with houses and building built in the actual trees" kinda deal. Where like the biggest tree in the woods was a tree Fort for the Seed Seers.
I personally like Windurst Woods better :( oh well
Gridania is fine the way it is.
The black shroud needs to be burned down and restructured to be less of a giant tunnel maze.
lol Some of my ls-mates rage a bit about Gridania. It's beautiful until you have to travel around in it. I love the look and sound of it - I will have to agree, it is a bit aggravating to get around in. My main mi'qote character is from Gridania but my Elezen is from Limsa... I couldn't bear the thought of creating another character of the forest.
Funny thing is - both characters frequent Ul'dah more of then not.
If they fixed Gridania/Black Shroud, they might as well fix EVERY OTHER ZONE. Seriously they're all terrible with the exception of Mor Dhona. The cities are way too small/uninteresting as well.
You haven't played many MMOs lol.
Cities are the perfect size, most MMOs I've played the cities are even smaller and have nothing of importance but a few key NPCs for the "storyline" and the obligatory warehouse, AH, Weapon, Armor and item NPCs.
Theres nothing wrong with La Noscea >.>
Idk. I look at the map and I see Each the area around each camp and Aetherial node look very much different from each other, including areas off to various directions. Especially South Bloodshore, The Isles of Umbra, and Moraby Bay. It is the only starting area that has a unique look to each different area. Plus the music is the best of the 3 starting areas. Nevermind the few caves with moles.
The only place slightly unique about The black shroud is where the sylphs live, northeast of Nine Ives. Thanalan is pretty much the same everywhere you go.
It is one of the few zones in the game with fitting music, I'll give you that, but it still suffers like every other zone in the game. Not really hating on it in particular just the world design in general. I bash XIV a lot but many of its problems are fixable while the world design one probably isn't.
Well take another good look at La Noscea map and you will see that it is really way better than the other two, music and shapewise. It doesn't need to be bothered too much more than placing dungeons wherever they feel like placing them.
It's the best starting area, yeah, but it's still not that great. More variety, less caves with moles/fireflies. At the very least it isn't nearly as bad as Thanalan/Black Shroud. I'd just like to see maps that make me WANT to explore. I covered every area in the game when I was playing and was left with bitter disappointment.
Perhaps they should add more landmarks into the areas specifically, like random shrines throughout the Black Shroud, or blowholes near the coastline of La Noscea, or even dancing tornadoes off the each of the walkable regions. La Noscea has one good thing; the sub-areas are stunning. Cassi Hollows is just beautiful, and Mistbeard Cove, while not spectacular, is definitely unique. In terms of the actual landmass, it doesn't really need to be touched upon; it's definitely more unique than the Black Shroud.
even the twelve hate the black shroud
I think this is interesting. I think the Black Shroud has the most unique areas. There are the white trees, the glowing tree, trees with birdhouses, cliffs, ponds, lakes, streams, bridges, etc. The problem is that it's so hard to get around in the Black Shroud that no one explores enough to find those areas.
I'd like to see the maze-like qualities cleared, and the Black Shroud become more open. I just always assumed it was intentional, to recreate the feeling of getting turned around and lost in a forest. I'm just not sure that benefit is enough to justify the inconvenience.
The only thing unique about the Black Shroud is that it is the Black Shroud.
If you were to explain your position to a friend on the phone without using coordinates you would be helpless at best.
There are no landmarks and you cannot even see the path (the one you see on the map)
It is as generic as it gets, periode.
Even after so many years I still could discribe various locations of the surrounding area of San d'Oria. I remember the charm walking around and all the little landmarks....
Gridania is just a bunch of X, Y, L shapes, flipped and rotated all over.
*Sticks finger in ear and winces* "What?!!!"
