[TO THE TANKS IN THIS GAME]I salute you for playing this broken Role

I have seen my friend tank he plays in JP server and been traumatized by the bad client server latency and RED danger zones, every time he gets out of the red zone and stay
way far away from it he still get damage from it. poor healers have to suffer

AND MOST IMPORTANT THING is the STUNS , he was off tanking chimera and and assigned to stun dragon roar as soon as he saw the spell bar been cast he clicked on shield bash WHICH should have stunned the monster- canceled the casting- but it didnt the spell was casted and everyone blame him for not stunning soon kicked replaced after few tries, i dont know if that the case in US-EU servers but i have noticed:

Even PLD takes alot of damage EVEN when using his -dmg reduction spells on the big spells, i played ffxi and loved how PLD where the kings of magic mitigation and physical , i thought they would be the same in FFXIV:ARR but compared to FFXI PLDs they are crap.

I bet everyone will switch to evasion tanks in the future like SAM or NIN and most MRD will switch to DRK instead of Tanking

The deal with the shield bash is likely caused by the diminishing returns kicking in. If other people with stuns try to help stun, the stun becomes less effective until it won't work for a short time.

I had the same problem with Chimera last night. Other players were trying to be helpful, but this is just one of those fights where you have to trust your interrupter and hope for the best.

If you are talking avout rams voice( which is the only real danger in that fight) a BRD os supposed to silence it. Shield bash gets diminshing returns amd eventually stops working.

huh? tanking works just fine. learn to play ur class better if you are having problems tanking then you are probably doing something wrong /shrug

NIN will most likely be a DPS like it was originally intended. Remember: Players made nin into a tank in the first place. Nothing about a ninja in general spells "tank". SAM too will most likely be another DPS type.

This is not true. I have killed Chimera about a dozen times now with the same Paladin interrupting *every* voice, both dragon's and ram's, without any DR problems. The issue is other dps/tanks trying to interrupt, or your interrupter is missing.

As previously stated, put one person on who is competent and this fight is a breeze.

Latency on a JP server isn't broken, that's working as intended, he'll just have to wait until server transfers are up and go to a NA server. I'm in the west coast, still get 100 m/s on the NA server, so its really only good for EST in my opinion.

2nd, that stun issue is most definitely someone else using stuns and messing him up. Its just like Ifrit, one tanks, one stuns, if suddenly someone else is using stuns, the off tank won't be able to stun and cracks will form (aka dumb dd facerolling, or dumb smn thinking - use ifrit on ifrit). IT should be spammed in chat if they keep doing it, STOP USING STUNS, STOP USING STUNS, ONLY OFF TANK USES STUNS!. If they don't speak english, drop party, forget about it, its not worth it.

I used to get hit all the time from "red zones" while tanking early on levels until I noticed I had to turn to face the mob. Maybe it has all been coincidence, but really would get hit no matter how far away or directly behind the mob. I started to strafe instead and kept facing the target no more hits, like I said could be random or could be that I just got better. /shrug

Not the OP. As you can see, he says Paladins (shield bash) run into DR on their interrupt and can't interrupt every voice - which is incorrect - which is what I posted.

Maybe read what I quoted first?

You can use a Bard or Monk for one of the voices as a silence, as this does not effect the DR of a stun. I prefer this method too, it's very pug friendly.

But a paladin can get both voices as long as other players just let him do his thing. That's all Scerick was trying to point out. Which is if a PLD reaches the stun DR that means someone else stunned something during the Chimera encounter.

A lot of the confusion about the red AoE markers is that players think that if they clear the zone before the attack animation goes off, they are fine; this is incorrect. When a mob begins an attack or a spell, the casting bar will begin to fill. At the instant the casting hits 100% and the bar disappears, you need to be out of the red zone. Some attacks, like breath attacks, have an animation that lasts a good 2 seconds after the casting is completed, and many players use the animation as a reference point for getting out of the danger zone. In actuality, you should be watching the casting bar and move out as soon as possible. Once the casting is complete, you can move right back into the red zone, even before the animation finishes, and you'll be completely safe from the attack.

If it's a pure evasion tank probably not, as they don't really work. You are ghod-mode all the way up to the time you fail to evade, then without the mits to survive you just go *splat*.

I don't get why people feel the need to use the word "traumatized" when talking about video games. Is this issue so bad that they had to go seek counseling?

A bit of an explanation for "Diminishing Returns".. OP looks like didn't understand it, probably others don't either, and maybe even some corner case I don't understand too.

Take your lvl 18+ GLD/PLD and go shield bash any enemy.
Watch the stun debuff that shows up. Notice the length. It'll be some seconds.
Once debuff gone, stun it again.
Watch the stun debuff. Notice that it now stuns for shorter period of time.
Keep repeating. Eventually it goes to not stunning at all.
If you go long enough, it'll reset for the full amount again.

Same thing goes for Blind from PLD flash. Does it for silence too? I haven't tested Silence specifically.

As for Chimera, remember that PLD actually has a Silence skill: Spirits Within. People have already pointed out that other players need to not stun. That combined with alternating like Stun, Stun, Silence, etc should be enough to lock Chimera out of the important casts.

nin and sam will never be tank... they are offensive class not tanking class.
dark knight will probably be the next tank.

You're also lvl 30 and haven't seen a single piece of the harder content. Wait till you get to those things that 1 shot the entire raid if your interrupt doesn't go off in the 2 seconds.

Shouldn't post statements when you don't know what is even being referred to.

@OP - Latency is a big issue when it comes to interrupts and avoiding things. Hell even using my cd's I have to know beforehand when to pop them because they usually won't take effect for a second or two after. (Yes they show as being gained but if you are hit immediately after they will not negate whatever damage it was. For instance I popped Hollowed Ground on Titan's Mountain Buster and still took the entire blow because the game didn't register it in time). Best I can say is tell him to transfer to an NA server and maybe get a little better but still isn't very good

Actually I also have more than one toon.

The role is difficult sometimes but it has it's good and bad.

This was the most important part of the whole thing. Why in gods name would you expect latency to be good when he's playing on the JP servers, and yet you go forth to blame the game instead of the obvious latency issues that would exist when communicating with the JP servers. Foolish.

Not many games get tanks right the first time around. If they're not broken they're OP. Just gotta wait and see what the future has for us in store. :cool:

Only issue so far I've had as a tank is that healers have better threat gen then I do as a tank. Seriously freaking healers pump out the threat. So much that if they gain threat it's hard for me to get the mob back without having a taunt.

Actually the only suggestion I mafe was to use a brd because there is no DR. Im giving him a solution to his problem. A brd is an easy mode way of doing the fight. Im sorry for confusing you.

Use a second Paladin for managing Chimera voices.

Spirits Within the first voice, Shield Bash the second, Spirits Within the third, Shield Bash the fourth and so on until you win. You'll never be caught without one of those two abilities up and he won't build stun resistance.

It really only takes one Paladin to manage everything.

The guy who quoted you is correct. This is not true.

Shield bash will work every time on Chimera if the PLD is the only one doing it. In general, Shield Bash will work 3 times in a row on a mob. On the fourth, it will resist. However, if you allow the mob to use another ability in-between your Shield Bashes, it resets the Stun resist.

So a PLD being the only stunner, you could have the following situation: Ram's voice, Dragon's voice, Ram's voice, <insert random other ability>, Dragon's voice.

You could stun all three voices in a row, then as long as you let the random ability go, you'll be able to stun the next dragon's voice. The problem that occurs is other players "helping" with stun. Every time I've ever wiped on a boss because my stuns were resisted was because someone else was stunning as well. As soon as I told everyone not to stun at all, there were no issues.

It should be pointed out that bard silence (blunt arrow) and paladin silence (spirits within) share the same 30 second cooldown duration. Spirits within does not affect the DR on shield bash so honestly it's probably best to let the bard focus solely on DPS and not have to worry about watching for a spell to silence. Let the OT, who let's be honest is only really there to interrupt voices handle it all.

That's not to say that you can't use a bard to do it, if you don't have a paladin OT then the bard should be doing it most likely. But if you have a paladin off tank (and why would you make a group without one unless you simply couldn't find one) then optimal route is going to be to let the paladin handle all the stunning, and let the dps focus on dps.

Wow seeing this make rolling a Tank even more depressing and why they are so short in supply. As a DPS you just stand there and poke it while Tank have to time their Stun perfectly and make sure get out in the red ahead of time because latency can kill you.

Then when everyone died, it's "Tank do your job!." or "It's the Tank fault!"

Playing pally in this game with THAT latency is just suicide.

Just wanted to mention a few things:

1. A single bard can't reliably interrupt ram's voice due to 30s cooldown on Blunt Arrow and chimera being able to cast it more often than that. However, two bards alternating blunt arrows can take care of the problem.
2. There's no reason to interrupt dragon voice as it doesn't hit melee jobs stacking on chimera and range jobs that stay at max range can easily run out of range (you need to move about 15 steps away).
3. Stun and silence don't share the resistance, so if your group is coordinated enough you can alternate between those two types of interrupts and interrupt more moves.

I'm playing on Ultima (JP) and tend to only Q with JP players. I've never had a problem avoiding red while tanking. :x
