This game is a masterpiece and best money spent beside charity

Just finished the lvl 50 main story quests.

i mean wow, this game absolutely rocks. the cutscenes literally mop the floor with the cutscenes of any other mmo to date.

every other mmo (beside tsw) sacrificed much of the immersion and atmosphere by being a mmo, but definitely not this one.

i do not care if this game does not have enough content for the (probably even cutscene-skipping) no lifers. It will definitely have enough for me, since i enjoy the whole palette of content it offers.

I too am iffy on the cutscenes but I definitely appreciate the variety of content.

In fact, I only got to Brayflox in the main storyline before I just got so wrapped up in finishing the storyline for all the Crafting classes. They are great! And you get a fun "AF" tool at the end! How cool is that?

Then I got caught up in making millions of gil on the market right now which is completely out of control. 800 gil for a basket of Fleece!!! In 1.0 that would have been 8000 gil. 8k gil for one basket of fleece. Completely insane. Screw the storyline and endgame, I'm hitting the market hard while I can, so I can buy myself a mansion :D

yeah, the prices are crazy right now. makes me believe the buyers of the overpriced stuff all buy gil (atleast on new servers) and then get hacked and then get used as spam bots.

Until Garuda, the story is a poor final fantasy knockoff that feels more like fan fiction than a numbered title.
After Garuda the story is pretty much over.

I agree with OP. The juice is worth the squeeze.

I found the story one of the strongest aspects of this game. However, the story between the major spoilers after Titan and the long build up to Garuda was the most excruciating and painful part. SE sure has a twisted sense of humour if they think I like being trolled from level 40 to 44.

In addition: Coerthas Central Highlands. Everyone I knew who first entered this map was absolutely taken away by how beautiful it was. Yet, after the story, they all left to Mor Dhona so glad to be out of that annoying arc.

Don't get me started on those terrible VAs.

Other than that, decent starting story to base further stories upon. I felt we became way too famous way too fast in the early levels. The whole "omg, you're a hero!" thing was cheesy when I hadn't even left the starting region yet.

There were way too many annoying busy-work quests between anything interesting happening.
Overall, the story gets a C+.
Judging just by the story up to Garuda would be a D-, for sure

My favorite part of the game is when someone disconnects on hydra and you don't get credit AND have to wait 23 minutes to be kicked out. It's the best countdown simulator I ever spent $30 on.

Now that I think about it, there's a few parts in the story I felt could've been better. I still did enjoy it, but I agree with what you're saying. In fact these quests I find, and now looking back, had made pivotal parts of the story quite jarring and out of the blue. Combine these parts with poor build up and the delivery just makes these parts feel out of place, so much to say "wait, did that just happen?". This is great for affect, but I feel it doesn't quite work right when you go back to doing the same thing after the story dramatically shifts. Climactic parts should be felt in the buildup to the next, not completely thrown out of the window.

Case in point: CCH. That was more a filler than an episode of Naruto.

Apologies for being so vague. It's quite hard to critique a story when the game is still new, and not everyone has been through it yet. :(

What I've been disappointed with is how all the NPCs in the cutscenes are like using /emote which our players do for their expressions. Nothing unique or nothing like FMVs which Square usually does wonderfully. (I'm talking about you mostly Cid..)

But I agree, I'm very satisfied with the game in its entirety.

Absolutely agree, this game is basically awesome. It's amazing to see how literally packed full of people the world is, no matter where you go. I think Yoshi and his team did a miraculous job of re-making it. (Thanks you guys!). I haven't felt this good about a mmorpg since Burning Crusade. This game is at the top of the mmo genre right now, and without a doubt they are still hard at work perfecting it.

A few tweaks here and there and this will be the new standard, if it isn't already. Go ahead and flame me if you disagree; I've played them all and this one truly hits the mark.

Which says more about the state of the genre than this game

I disagree but it was worth the 30 dollars at least. Many games aren't worth the paying price.

With the recent advent of negativity (on the forums), i feel the need to update this thread.

FFXIV gives me that adventurous feel i missed in other mmos. It also has a great sense of community and the rudest thing i've seen by far was the gold spam.
People do not spam chat with mindless trolling brubbel, they enjoy the game and help eachother, or casually chat.

I also believe that the negativity on the forums will drastically lessen after the "free" month is over, and good riddance to them i say.

Really? Is hard for me to agree with how small the world is. But to each his own.

I don't get why people say the world is small, and I played copy paste fantasy 14(FFXIV 1.0).. What do people really expect from a relaunched mmo, that the world was completely remade in?

Oh boy, if you're impressed with ARR then you should really go and review the cutscenes from 1.0. In my opinion the writers who came up with much of the story content, especially crafting stories, for 1.0 did an amazing job. Unfortunately not a lot of people got around to seeing much of it. I'm sure it goes without saying that I'm not the only one concerned that a lot of these stories are left without closure in ARR.

The storyline is amazing, the music is amazing and I like the graphics too. However how long can one stare at a masterpiece before being bored?

I was a little disappointed in the quality of the 2.0 cutscenes.. They made Gaius look so strong in 1.0, but his end was rather anti-climatic in 2.0.

TSW has way better voice acting, but yes FFXIV has more dramatic scenes.

I would say TSW comes ahead in both story and cut scenes, as well.

I wish they voiced all of the main story cutscenes...

I think the thread's title is incredibly hyperbolic, but I'd still say it's a damn good game. Thought I couldn't stick with an MMO apart from FFXI but I think I'll be proved wrong here.
The storyline's... okay for an MMO (compared to say Aht Urghan or Chains of Promathia, which were great for an MMO). I switched to JP voice acting and it's quite good... when it actually happens.
I really like the art style in this game, both visually and audibly. It sets itself from other recent fantasy MMOs, and feels more "FF-ish."

If the rudest thing you've seen is the gold spam...I wanna switch worlds. Lvl 50 stuff is a hell hole.

The music and the story is awesome. Felt very Final Fantasy to me.
