Should we expect a rank cap increase and some point in the future?

I've been pondering this for a bit and I'm usually pretty good about keeping up to date and I don't believe this topic has really been addressed (most likely cause tons of other crap is in dev atm and this isnt too important), but ranking up seems pretty dang easy if you have big group, link leves, and invoke aspect a ton. So with the leveling being almost as easy as many casual mmos and the fact that fatigue is planned to be removed, do you guys think they will increase cap to 75 like in 11 or what?

About 50% of the world you can't explore because the mobs are between level 70-90 so I say it is not a question of if they will do it but a question of when.

R52 story mission has already been discovered in the .dat files, so it is coming for sure. My guess PS3 release.

This was a part of the old design, I think... Hopefully Yoshi-P wants this to go into a different direction though.

level cap increase is likely coming, got to remember this level cap is the one the game shipped with, this cap was only supposed last a few months, most likely till march at the latest. We got loads off stuff they would probably just have to turn on, like armors that npcs use, higher end camps, skills in the .dats.

What do you think the final level cap will be? I'm hoping 100 cause I like round numbers.

I expect 75 at ps3 release honestly. maby a few increased to like 60-65-70 before ps3 release.

What ever they decide I hope they do it all at once, I do not like the incremental increases that most mmos do, it always ends up negating all old content.

In spite of this... I hope we stick to 50, smaller numbers tend to be better in the long haul

We will see a raise to rank 60 or 70. The DAT files have indicated the existence of other armor that we cannot acquire. Darksteel and Mythril armor being two examples. Mythril has no variations. Darksteel has three variations (white, gold, and plain).

If you think about it, there are also pince-nezes as well that we cannot acquire.

These are items earmarked for players past rank 50. I imagine they will become available when Ishgard opens, with a cap raise at the same time.

However, I feel they need to make the EXP curve a little more gentler between R44 and R50, as it becomes very steep and frustrating to go through for the average player (and no, I don't speak of the Hardcores. ;P).

level 99 is standard throughout all FF games, XI is making its way to 99 now after spending entirely too long on 75 if they were ever going to increase it. This game feels designed for a higher cap and I do believe our rank will be increased steadily to 75 and then upwards to 99, I think if they did learn anything from XI is that if they are going to increase cap, you can't make 80% of your end game content specific to that level. If they do raise cap in XIV content will be released for 50, 75, and then onwards, that would be the smartest direct instead of a huge chunk of the game being made for 50 and then releasing 75 later with no content. Plus 50 is a weak rank, if there weren't mobs higher than 20 ranks of us, I would say 50 is gonna stay, but the appearance of 76 and higher mobs just lets us know those are IT++ to a party of 8, and eventually they will raise cap.

they will probably rebalance exp from 30-50 when they increase the cap, and the addition of higher level leves and behests will make it a bit faster, but yea, i hope they make exp not take forever, and try to create content that you can do to level up that isnt super grindy feeling. dungeons may be this.

They better have a better method for gaining ranks then leve's by then because I honestly don't think I could face R50-99 doing leves ; ;

I'd really REALLY like them to increase it to 75... but if I have to grind to 75 through forced leve concentration camps I might eat my own face. I really hope they make party grind exciting (and more viable) then it is now. The idea of leves to 75 makes me a little ill.

id prefer some other options, even besides your reg exp parties, im hoping dungeons are entertaining and give decent exp, rivaling anything else we ve seen. Some quests and adventure exp would also be good.

Considering there is at least one main scenario quest in the game files that's R52 I'm pretty sure they intended to raise rank around PS3 release.

The most obvious reason its delayed is because increasing level cap can be difficult, even for games like XI they had to do it in stages and they probably will this time because you have to supply a bucket load of content. You cant be expected to grind 50-75 and still be using that level 36 velveteen that is so good! lol

I know we use a lot of old pieces now but that was because they were around when Tanaka was in charge, Yoshi might want to ensure we all got 50+ gears. Like the ones we've seen in the image he showed us. AF like gear.

Fair enough- but here's my concern... Each job has 4-5 endgame weapons at the moment, and 3-4 sets of gear to mix and match. The bonuses for these is for the most part minor (where I feel it needs to be). My concern is that I don't think it would be good for the game's mechanics if there were gears designed over the power of what is currently end-game gear, even if the level cap was increased to 70 (effectively giving more points and elemental affinity points to juggle). So let's say they release the job system and each job has a maximum rank of 50, so the pLv is increased to 70. They could approach it a few interesting ways... Namely that job-specific gear could be mixed with job-weight gear. Having several several options for pLv based gear 60-70 as well as job specific pieces (for Rank 45-50). The point is, that the room for failure is rather broad in this regard- lest the game become a series of raiding for gears, or MvP hunting for gears grindfest (and no, that's not raising the level every other day, type of grindfest, that's playing chances for potentially wonderful drops grindfest- something the next generation of MMOs doesn't need).

So if this is the case...
The Hope: Job specific pieces will be earned through leves and guild credit, these will supply buffs to specific skills. Non-specfic pieces will have a more broad spectrum of aesthetics and supply raw stats/elemental resistance, and will be acquirable by crafting. With a pLv of 70 and rank caps of 50, the game will sit at a comfort zone of "obtainable" and "well thought out" with plenty of the necessary "challenge" in the later ranks.

I'm pretty convinced about an increased cap level, which should be done atually soon so that the lack of endgame activities right now is justified by the fact that we won't stay at rank50 for too long.
I personnaly would love a rank99 cap (as most FFs) with a first increased at 75 (kind of middle ground between 50 and 99) with some quest to unclock higher levels (as in FFXI, it was fun to do those quests to be able to go higher in level). I also would like the rank99 cap to so many many years after the rank75 cap because it makes all the time spent to gather 'endgame gears' for rank75 obsolete and it's kind of discouraging in my opinion.
In any case, I would like to see a change about having 'endgame content' at rank50 because it is for sure not the 'endgame rank'. I'd rather here 'current rank cap content' or even content for everyone: Campaign/besieged that you could attend even at lower rank (and add unkillables mobs at rank50 in that content so it still can be used for when the cap is increased).

I'm hoping they increase it when they add that dungeon they talk about. A cap increase is needed to rebuild the economy through new materials and increasing it after the dungeon means that content becomes obsolete fast.

That is the whole point in doing it in the first place, FF11 had small increases its just they stuck at 75 for so long that everyone became shell shocked when they started to increase the cap again.

I would like to see them add 2-3 levels every couple of months until they hit 99 (there are loads of rank 99 skills in the dats)

It will likely be at or after the PS3 release... Perhaps to coincide with the first expansion pack.

99 is just where they put skills when the skills have no where else to go.. Kind of like the Oakland Raiders

I agree with this, I really hope they don't continually increase the cap. Fair enough it needs to go up, but continually creating new content and then making it pointless it just seems like such a waste. I liked that FFXI's areas didn't feel pointless (until Abyssea, now you're pretty much only using 3-6 zones most of the time)

Yeah I don't think I could alt tab while leveling to 50-99 either, I did that enough 33-50. Maybe the game will become challenging, and we'll have to pay attention by then(I hope). If the game continues to be this easymode leveling we currently have I doubt many people will stick around for 49 more levels, whether or not we do it in leves or group grinding.

Yeah I agree too, raising the cap RANDOMLY and making old content useless is bad design, it just makes the game boring and makes it feel like all your work was worthless, plus limits the amounts of things you can do instead of EXPANDING on the amount of things you can do.

I don't wanna spend too much time at work looking for this, but didn't someone mention somewhere possibly upping the level cap to coincide with the high-level dungeon release?

Something about this game doesnt seem great if the cap is 75. Just the equipment we have at R1-50 look like level 20 armor in FFXI. FFXI equip did start looking good till lv50-52 anyway with AF. Id like to see AF be shown in this game.

Just the equipment doesnt look flashy or awsome in anyway is what im saying. Its all reskin stuff or just the same weapon or armor but would have 1 or 2 things new attached to it. I know theres better looking gear out there from what the NPC`s gear but im just getting tired of waiting for it.

Hmm I really hope they don't raise it for awhile. IMHO they need to get the game more "fleshed out" for the current ranks. More NM's, more gear (where is my R40+ linen DoW/DoM gear?), etc. And as others have said, I have to agree that the thought of ranking up from 50-75 same way you get to R50 sounds somewhat painful lol.

And let's not forget that there is more to this game than battle! I feel kinda bad for saying this, but I simple cannot imagine ranking up DoH and DoL all the way to 75. My highest craft is only R34 and the grind to 50 looks so very long and monotonous as it is. I think they need to add more stuff for DoH and DoL before they raise the level cap; as it is they don't have things like behest and leve linking and party grinding to help rank up.

The question really is not if, its a given that it will happen eventually. the more pertinent question is how they will do it. will we be looking at the return of the Genki style quest, or will we log after said update and be able to continue ranking up until the new cap. Along those lines you have to wonder if the xp/sp we gain now at cap is being recorded in any way or if its just going to waste. i personally think its going to waste but who knows right?

They should increase it 5 ranks every 6 months, and every 6 months release new dungeons, weapons, armor, mobs, challenges etc... and NEVER stop raising the cap, even at 100, keep on going. Every 5 rank cap increase, SE should make it a little easier to get within the last 25 ranks of the current cap. So if the cap is 100, its easier to get up to 75 than it originally was. Then to not negate the older content/dungeons, enforce Level Sync/Cap for those areas. And each cap increase, make those mobs drop new stuff, and maybe even change the challenge of the battle.

I am for this, as this could keep the game growing forever. For Me... FFXI stuck at 75 sucked. I got so bored of doing the same thing over and over for how many years? I actually had to quit the game it was so boring. The way FFXI handled new content, killed the old content. It wasn't just cap increases that killed it, its how it was done.
