Do we need a petition to make it possible to change the starting city-state?

For different reasons (for example: for me it is fly-in fly-out method of employing) not every player had opportunity to track FFXV: ARR changes. Now the choice of starting city-state is not obvious. Some players made a mistake in their starting city-state. It makes the game process psychologically uncomfortable.
Do We need a petition to Square Enix for city-state change to be able?

I don't really see the need.
Aside from a few starting quests and cutscenes, everything's basically the same. Hell, you're not even considered a legal citizen where you start.

My main problem is that there's no free way to enter/exit La Noscea when you can just run between the other two. But that's another problem entirely.

you start in the state that has the guild for whatever class you are. it makes sense, and it tells you exactly where you will start in character creation. beyond lvl 20, it has almost no bearing on your character anyhow....

I felt the same way, that they needed to give us a choice of where we started. People always defend the lack of choice with: "It doesn't matter, you're only there until 15 and then you choose your loyalty when you do your Grand Company."

That isn't an excuse.

The story quest is quite different in each area (though with mirrored fights) and the Scion you're with is different in each area. To some people that makes a big difference and is important. I know it was for me.

That being said, there is a reasoning for it. Your class quest and hunting log monsters are all in the area your guild is in. And if you're starting a new character, you can't actually pick up a second class until you get to level 10. So it's kind of a necessity on new character servers. There's enough reason for them not to change it. So if you want to be from a specific city, just choose to start as a class from that city. If you've already chosen and didn't like it, then just make a new character and play through the story quests to 15~20. You can experience the story and go back to your main. There are no differences in dialogue after you choose your Grand Company, so there's really no reason to change your starting country.

Yes it is. When you highlight the class during character creation it shows either city as the backdrop.
As for changing it, why would you? You need to start where your guild is or you wont be able to do your class quests til past level 15 airship quest.

I learn from other players use this method; For an example, I want to be ACN [SMN] but I need to start at Gridania.

1. I create character and select CJN, Lancer or, Archer. These classes start at Gridania.
2. Reach to level. 15 [You have to complete main story quest.]
3. I go to Limsa
4. I change to ACN.
Result: I am ACN but my city-state is Gridania.

That's all. I think it probably waste your time. Keep in mind, level 1-15 is very easy to reach.

keep in mind, you are a lominsan/uldarian/gridanian (hope I remember the words right) only after you join the GC Maelstrom/Immortal Flames/ Order of the Twin Adder, before that your city state have no value

I've got the same problem. For me the starting point differs much. The Devil is in the details and the quests in different locations are not completely the same. If you play for the story it does matter where to start.

Got to beat this thread back into the Abyss. 1st Job = Starting state/city/fish market. Whats the diff? Prefer Mog that drink wine or your fellow passenger almost got hit by an arrow or chase by pirates at sea?

THIS is a problem especially for legacy players. We can't just delete the character and reroll another class. I had the same problem and posted a while back:

for you, you mean and it is your own fault for skip everything. My city state in 1.0 was Gridania, and in 2.0 is Limsa lominsa

As someone with (two) Limsa Lominsa citizen certificates on my wall, holy crap please let us change our citizenship.

When I logged into my 1.0 character, I didn't think something like that would change for my character, I didn't even notice it had defaulted me to starting as a Gladiator and therefore Ul'dah, and if I had, I wouldn't of thought it important because it was an established character. My character was a Lominsan! Why would that suddenly change for my character in 2.0?

It may not bother or be important to some people, but it does bother me.

When starting the game and selecting a starting class, you will be assigned to the city-state where that class resides. However, we understand that some users wish to belong to a different city-state even though they started with a specific class. We are currently looking into a system that will allow you to change your city-state affiliation, and we are doing our best to have this ready for patch 2.1.

Your starting city-state stops mattering when you do your first dungeons; the storylines merge at that point. Your city of origin is not even identified on your character sheet any more, as it was in 1.x. What matters after your first few days of play will be your Grand Company, and you won't choose that until level 20, and it is, I understand, changeable.

Actually it lists your city on your profile page under character settings.

I'd simply would like to be able to get the stories from the other nations and not just the one you happened to pick. Might have no real effect in the main story side of things when you are choosing the Grand Company but it is a different version of the first 15 levels roughly up to the mage and gargoyle fight. Plus the less important reason, 3 city-states...3 achievements...1 for completing whichever you happened to start in with the other two just sitting there.

Unless I missed something where you could get those stories somehow later on.

What benefit would there be to change your city-state unless you can go back through the beginning of the main story? As it is you can't repeat quests, so I really don't see the reason why someone would want to do it apart from RP reasons.

I've seen a few quests where people commented that they're from Gridania, just like me (for example, the sellsword quest giver in Camp Dragonhead), so it's not entirely discarded after the main storyline merges together.

I'd love to be able to change my starting city in my character profile, I was quite distraught when I logged into my Legacy character to get back in the action and had it changed to Uldah instead of my original starting city of Limsa just because I had logged in as the first class selected (gladiator). And yes this would be for RP reasons and it matters to me.

if the starting city matters that much then just choose a class thats starting in the city u want, this is not a big deal. put your pants on and man up.

since you need to actually join your guild at the beginning of the game, and not only have to do their storyline quests, starting in a city state that does not have your classes guild could be problematic. A good idea would be to have the ability to replay the story mode quests after completion of the story. One game that did this well was Defiance. it allowed us to replay the story as our stronger version, and allowed us to enjoy watching the great animations. I wonder if they would have that as a feature eventually to replay the story mode of all three city states or the entirety of it altogether...

Same here! Not so much for RP reasons, but just knowing that I'm not a true Ul'dahn has REALLY bothered me.

Yeah that's not a problem for new players, but some of us made a mistake when we imported from 1.0: we didn't know that starting city and class were linked, so we simply didn't change our class during import. New characters are prompted to do this, but not 1.0 imports. So it's a mistake a lot of people made.

Nice idea but please remeber to add the class guilds to each city otherwise having an archer start in say Ul'dar but the guild in Gridania would cause a few issues like starting your class quest lol,common sense would assume this wouldn't happen but oversights do happen lol

As a Legacy player with all level 50 battle jobs in 1.0, I started in Limsa as Arcanist to make leveling it more efficient with the story quest XP. I don't like pirates or the way LL folk talk or their story, but it was a conscious decision to to start in Limsa as the benefit of starting as Arcanist outweighed the few days I spent doing the pre-20 main story quest in Limsa.

If given the option I would switch to Ul'dah in a heartbeat, but it's not something I spend any time worrying about.

There are some quests that identified me as a "fellow Gridanian." My starting choice coincided with my choice of home state, but I'm glad there will be an option for those who weren't as fortunate.

I don't really understand why people are so hostile to the very idea, though it's nice to see they don't represent the actual people working on the game.

This is all I wanted, thank you. I don't care about the starting quests; I just didn't like that my character profile in game and on the Lodestone was forever branded with whatever city-state matches the class I decided to start with.

AGREED I don't like that I was branded with not the city-state I had wanted from 1.0. If i had been more aware I would have just started with one of the Limsa jobs but I wasn't and I hope I can get this corrected.

great...now every guild will have to build an embassy in all the starting city states. because you know, every 10 minutes you will hear someone asking where they can do their class quests....at level 5....just watch.

Utterly and totally the wrong question: the correct question is WHY NOT ALLOW IT?

As usual, you approach it from the perspective of someone who doesn't want to do something arguing that there's no reason to allow it and therefore the devs shouldn't take the time to do it.

However, to answer your question, each city has a different set of quests before they merge. It's nothing to do with 'RP' it's everything to do with seeing the WHOLE STORY.

Except they didn't say that they will let you pick your city when you create a new character. What they said was "We are currently looking into a system that will allow you to change your city-state affiliation" Which I think they are saying about allowing you to change it for currently made characters.

Hopefully this will also let you complete those city unique quests.

I could careless about the quests to be honest I just want my character profile corrected with the city I want to be from and was from in 1.0

I thought there could be a representative for each guild at the adventurer's guild to start anyway. Start as no profession. Walk up talk to the guild reps and then choose. City state based on job is silly. Who gets to see the orders head boss at lvl 1 anyway. Later quests could lead you to the guild hall at the request of the guildmaster.

I've been needing this. I want nothing to do with Ulsan. Having Ul'dah in my profile, tarnishes me and I'm ashamed to even be apart of that city.

It's ugly, the city is crowded, and no color whatsoever.

Once you do the 2nd lieutenant rank quest (should be the last quest for your GC) it allows you to switch to whatever GC your heart desires...

Starting State/City should just be removed from profiles and only display the current Grand Company you're affiliated with. You can think of your GC as the city you wish to be apart of and I'm sure a lot of those that care have the same GC as the City state they wanted to be apart of.

Just simply remove the little bit of text and icon on The Lodestone and people won't have to have this problem of the stigma of a starting city icon they don't want to see. You don't have to go through hoops to think up a way to make everyone pick the starting city they wish to be apart of, keep it simple Dev. team! And move on to more important things.
