[dev 1038] Ability to engage more than 1 non-leve monster?

We have a lot of useful AoE skills but we get nothing from killing a group of monsters even if they aggro us

why SE doesn't allow us to engage more than 1 mob? Is it about mob-training prevent?

maybe they can add "monster party system", ex: a group of 3 doblyns, a couple of dodos, etc

or just allow us to engage as much as we want

From what I've heard, this was somewhat of a problem in FFXI. Parties claiming large numbers of monsters and leading them back to a group of mages who just AoE spammed them all to death. Something along those lines, I never actually saw one.

The problem in FFXI was people gathering huge amounts of mobs from all over the zone for Astral Burns. However this could never happen in FFXIV as mobs return to their territory so you could never gather these large amounts of mobs.

That makes this extra restriction of only pulling 1 mob at a time in FFXIV ridiculous, the amount of mobs that could be gathered and AOE nuked would not be game breaking and it would also only be worthwhile if they were near enough to your level to yield SP in which case if you managed to pull 10 of them they would kick your ass.

I really can't see why we can not be allowed to engage a few more at the same time, especially as they give us a whole load of AOE moves which seem pointless to use at the minute.

not rally mana and smn burn parties are in out of the way locations.

i seen a few pulled for a few. even in abyssea we are pulling 2 mobs at a time. I'm surpised most abilities/spells are aoe but you get lil to no sp frpm killing a few mobs at a time. It was really not an issue unless the ga,e was full. But that was kinda fault of plauers for not really exploring the game or alt camps.

It wasn't a problem in XI, what SE did with XI was eventually reduce the damage done by AoE spells vs amount of targets hit, it also reduced drop rates if you get AoE kills, but if it was EP+ you still got the XP for it, unlike here, which just falls back to the game being unfinished as the whole point to every ability being AoE or Conal is because the original tagline of XIV is:

Many vs Many.

They need to expand the target system to include "subtargets", and have a group be able to claim multiple mobs. As it stands, they gain nothing if they take on add and have to deal with them in certain ways, likely immediately killing it. If multiple groups of targets are involved, like in behest, subtargets can also be toggled so that the group immediately locks on the next mob selected(look at, not attack). Have that role be part of a party leader, or a role they can designate, like the quartermaster role in ffxi.

To be honest, I'll kinda miss the ability to do trains.

It was fun going into the Palbough Mines, hitting one Quadav and then running through the whole place up and down all over, aggro linking every Turtle in range. Then getting to the exit and killing them all with a massive AOE wS.

I don't think this is a good idea to just go on a mass rampage. You'll have players going out and farming low level zones for crafting mats and making it hard for low-level players to grind on those mobs, a problem that already exists. A possible compromise could be 'parties' of mobs, the way they have them in guildleves. Why not have a pack of 4-6 wolves in one area that aggro as a group rather than as soloable mobs?

This is an idea : basicly make "linking mobs" like FF XI, putting them in a party.
In details, make some non-aggressive (or aggressive) mobs but linking. If a linking mob have a mob nearby of the same family, they form a party like in a guild leve.

then just limit the rank to get items from low rank mobs

If SE didn't want us to gather groups of mobs, why did they gave us the option of AOE in the 1st place????
Except for heals, aoe spells are so fail right now its more like a needle in you're feet when newbies start aoe'ing the hell out of everything mostly in behest loosing half the SP it would normally give. The system is real fail right now :mad:

You still get drops from yellow named mobs, just not exp/sp. So it has nothing to do with mat farming. They implemented this tactic to prevent astral/aoe burning. But basically because the mobs have a fairly small stray zone before they return back, they implemented a system that was not needed, and basically made aoeing useless outside of a few mobs in behest and leves. Just remove aoe attacks if you are that worried about someone killing 3 mobs at a time...

No, I just want to kill everything in one shot

Great points. :)

The only thing I can think of that is a bit unfair if we had Multiple Claims via AOE are regular SP Parties. Specifically, during the ranks where you dominate an area, but still get good SP per Hour (i.e., you don't need to move on yet).

So that'd be like the late R30's for Black Efts, or late R40's for Raptors. You *can* handle multiple Raptors if you're high 40's, so if you could claim multiple Raptors during Raptor Parties (when it's busy), then you could hog multiple mobs at once, driving out other Parties competing at the same time.

But someone also mentioned in FF XI that they eventually reduced SP or Damage per Mob in AOEs so maybe there's a balance that way?

The AI that the mobs had in XI was awesome, they should do it with FFXIV, where mobs didn't de-aggro easily, helps with grind parties, and to make people have to be a bit sneaky to get where they want.

Take the best from XI and slap it in XIV...XIV can still be its own game with similar mechanics to a predecessor.

this was the standard state of the game, people were training mobs far, trying to kite forever etc. the current agro range was their solution
