I just want to hear it from somebody.. please tell me putting my retainer up in Gridania while I go logging in Coerthas isn't a complete waste of my time...!

Gridania is a ghost town on my server, so I don't imagine many people checking through the wards there if your server is in the same situation.
gridania is a ghost town in every server with 2 chocobo to 3 chocobo, and LL is semi ghost
Why would you use anywhere buy uldah? Shooting yourself in the foot otherwise.
And if Ishgard will have wards, probably Uldah will become like Gridania and LL. The 3 cities should have something unique or useful to 'lure' players in them. Maybe every city could have some sort of tax on some products that another in particular hasn't? Example: Metals: Gridania=tax ; LL=tax ; Uldah=no-tax. Or something like that.
Than to populate them, need to open other type of enterntainments in every city (casinĂ² in uldah, music hall in gridania, etc.)... to avoid the ghost cities, like happens in the most of mmorpgs.
- Never put my retainers in there for months
- Seek for something, sometime
From a thread I just posted in:
By requiring retainers to be in a stall, you're effectively capping the number of retainers that can be in a given ward. With this type of setup, Ul'dah would fill up first, then Limsa, then Gridania. You could always spawn an extra ward in each city once all three cities are full, but I think competition for stalls would be more interesting.
They have been threads on this allready. Either people don't search for them or their hard to find. I'm going with lazy.
Depends on the servers, and what you're selling. Yes, Gridania is sparsely populated and stuff, esp. equipment don't sell well, unless its noob equipment; since most peeps tend to gravitate toward UL near their 20s. But I can still make decent business by selling materials in Gridania, especially for carpenter and leatherworking.
AH that is connected between all cities. But that would just ruin the game for some reason.
As it stands, players are discouraged from adventuring around the other two areas...
I haven't used any wards in 3 months and that hasn't caused me any problems so far. I'm just glad I don't have to see that place.
I don't use the wards in Gridania much, since I am not there much due to it being mostly deserted (a vicious cycle, that!). But the wards in Limsa are actually pretty active from what I've seen. Definitely not as full as Ul'dah's, but I sometimes leave my retainer there to sell and I have a decent chance of finding what I want to buy. Just yesterday I was looking for two specific and somewhat uncommon crafting mats and I was able to find them both in Limsa.
Now that you can summon retainers while they are selling, I find it a lot more convenient to put my retainer outside of Ul'dah.
I see more retainers up in Limsa than in Grid on my server, but obviously Uldah blow Limsa out of the water :T
It's better for the game economy to use a single market.
I'm from Gridania but I usually sell in Ul'Dah. However I had to pull my retainers from Gridania since my inv was full. From there they could either stay off duty or set up shop in Gridania. I was going to sell logs and clothes, so maybe the logs would have sold.
I have a few characters from Gridania, so yes, I put mine in there. And when I need something I check the wards there.
I would rather not add to the lack of population in Gridania.
I am on Besaid. ^-^
Random idea: What if they made a free teleport between wards, but you could only exit through the ward you entered? (So you don't get a free teleport to another city, but access to the wards.)
From withing the wards, go to the door where it asks you if you want to leave or search, but also have the option "Teleport Limsa/Gridania Ward," where you can park your retainer and search items there.
Edit: Meh, decided to make a thread about it. Maybe the community reps will see, and maybe people can add more ideas.

Nope, nobody uses Limsa Lominsa or Gridania anymore, they're all packed into Ul'dah. That's what the problem is. What's so great about Ul'dah anyway, compared to the other two? Personally, the desert landscape is the least appealing to me, out of all three areas, but that's how it goes, I suppose. Square Enix should work on discovering what it is about Uld'ah that has players flocking over there and balancing things out so that players can enjoy all three cities equally.
And when Ishgard comes out, depending on what you can do around the city, it'll probably become the Jeuno of this game. I think that's inevitable. Since it's new content, Square Enix will want to make it more appealing than the other cities, and the rest will come.
I hate desert in every game
make me hot and lonely
I see plenty of people in Limsa and Gridania on Fabul >_> Likewise people still put their retainers in the wards and people still browse the wards.
I think it's because of the circular design of the city that makes it easier to navigate. Everything is close together. If you ran out of anima you could walk there from 1 other city since it's halfway, making it an ideal choice for leve exchange. I think that's really all it was.
If SE would delete Gridania and LL completely most ppl wouldn't noticed and the rest probably wouldn't care anyway.
I use the Limsan and Gridania markets mostly - I very rarely touch the Ul'dah ones.
Reason - I'm not online every day. So if I want my stuff to actually sell while I'm away, I need it to be in an environment that does not constantly crash and expel my retainer.
I miss LImsa SOOOO freaking much... so sad that no one is there D:
Gridania is fun every so often, just hate how there is no 'free roam' feel to it
I will say that I do use the Limsa wards more than I use the UlDah wards simply because I'm there more. And they really aren't that desolate. The only problem is that if you want a rare item, you will likely not find it in Limsa. More common stuff? Good chance. Limsa isnt as deserted as some would lead you to believe... at least on Besaid
Figaro's Limsa remains relatively populated too. Our Ul'dah is thus bursting at the seams of course.
I think most people put their retainers in Uldah because....
Uldah tends to be the center of activities, if you wanted to go to grid or LL you can either walk east or west. Most common activities for SP tends to be at Broken Water and Halitali, on the lower end Nanawa and Nophica. Also Uldah isn't a dead-end city, Once you reach either LL or Grid you can't simply go to Grid from LL or vice versa considering time, you'd have to traverse through thanalan first to get to either. Convenience always attracts players. If something connected Grid to LL, maybe it wouldn't be the case. That's just my 2 gil XD.
On another note I'm tired of waiting for chocobos. I say we outfit dodos for transportation.

XD <3 dodos they're so funny lookin :O
To be honest, I think you can make good profit outside of uldah, but your probably better off sticking to expendables, like crafting materials, crafting/gathering tools designed for the town, and arrows and such. If I'm in Gridiana and I ever bought any crafting material, I be more likly to buy logs there or at least check there before heading to Uldah. Or if I'm doing leve's in Gridiana I be looking there for arrows and stuff.
I go to grid for cheap shards on Lindbulm. I haven't seen LL markets in a while. last I remember it was full of retainers selling sheep skin for 20,000 a piece or something.
Yeah I have had a hard time selling finished items as of late regardless of + quality. though +quality materials have sold like candy. Like buffalo straps +3's those went quick for 400,000 a piece XD.
i personally dislike grindanina. But i do almost all of my shopping in limsa and put my retainers there.
I can say i started up in Limsa but ultimatly i have my char parked up in Ul'dah exclusivly for the daily leve quests with my friends ,i end up going to limsa ussaly if im on for longer durations tho i do prefure the city layout and designs would love a reason to set up shop and stay there tho!
