we received more codes earlier this week so for the time being it should still print on the receipt. if your friend wants a physical copy i would go to the store and reserve one, as my store got the games in today and only have 6 left to reserve. i would imagine that this would be the case with most stores including walmart and bestbuy.

Finally got around to pre-ordering the digital download from Square's store. Paid my money, got my 18 digit code immediately, redeemed it for my 20 digit code, applied to my account, and done.

To the OP, talk to the actual guy at the register, and see if it's possible. If needed, mention the term "back up code", and even explain this post to him/her. Give it a shot, and make sure you can get a refund if it doesn't work. -

I literally just got my code from ordering a digital dl version from gamestop online. It couldn't have been much more than an hour or so ago. So, I would say that as long as your friend can purchase the game online it should be easy enough to get a code.

He said he knew "nothing" about a code and even said he was looking at the website and it mentioned nothing about them (he wouldnt turn the screen for me to look). So I went home and emailed gamestop.com about my code and after 2 weeks they never got back to me.
Fortunately I found a post on the beta forums about the "backup" codes. Apparently they are few and only given out if you can prove you saw the advertising for a code (atleast this was my experience). So just go in prepared(I brought my smart phone with the gamestop site pulled up). Not every Gamestop may be this way, but the one near my house was.... :( Once I proved to him that I saw the advertising for it, magically "Oh, the *code*" .... lol -

Called my local gamestop and they said no more codes. I just bought it from the SE store and got it all set up fine. I dunno gamestop can be confusing, I have had employees tell me false info before so who knows.
