Windows & PS3 Theme (plus Lightning!)

Here's a link to the Windows and PS3 theme. I've downloaded the Windows one, but opening does nothing - I think it's supposed to add it to My Themes, but it didn't. :(

There seems to be a problem with the theme. I've found references to files that appear to exist on a Japanese version of Windows only.

I got it to work by extracting the .themepack file and change a few settings within the extracted .theme file.

I'll try to post my changes later. Posting with a smartphone is tough... (^_^; )

Nice one kitty-Cait! I used Winrar to open and extract the download and manually created a theme by right-clicking the multi-selected .jpgs and choosing "Set as Desktop Background". There's a .wav file in there too for Shutdown. :)

Too bad microsoft still doesn't allow real custom themes (= window decoration change) without patching system files -_-
Also, the downloaded .themepack installed without problems on my system, and it's an English OS... though running with JP codepage for non-unicode programs.

Which Windows version are you using Soukyuu? 7? 8 perhaps?

Quick instructions for getting the desktop pictures on Macs, FYI:

　1. Download the themepack file.
　　　* The filename is "FINAL FANTASY XIV-A Realm Reborn.themepack".
　2. Download a program called The Unarchiver. More info on its product site.
　3. Drag the themepack file onto The Unarchiver application icon.
　　　* This creates a folder called "FINAL FANTASY XIV-A Realm Reborn".
　4. The desktop images are inside that folder, in the "DesktopBackground" folder.
　　　* The images are 1920x1200 in size (16:10 aspect ratio).

I used 7 zip to open theme file, it works too. :D

It worked super-fine on my PS3!

Forgot to mention. Win7 x64 SP1 (fully updated) Don't think that matters much though, as usually the updates to the OS improve unicode/codepage handling, not break it.

The problem is indeed that there are reference to Japanese files in the theme. Either western operating systems can't read them, or they simply can't find them in your system.

I fixed it real quick. You can grab it here while Square Enix gets around fixing their own file.

OMG thank you! It now appears in my themes and I can select it. How do I switch between background/wallpaper pics though? First Midlander was there, now a Roe ... does it just change like a slide show? Not much happening. I was hoping to just choose one of the images as a wallpaper. What else does it do?

You can switch between wallpapers by right-clicking on your desktop and choosing "next background".

@Abriael: The problem is apparently, that the filenames were saved as ANSI instead of unicode/utf-8. That means that for western OS the symbols don't decode to anything meaningful, because we use a different codepage. So the reason why I was able to install it was indeed because I have my language for non-unicode programs set to Japanese...

In the new file, is the audio not there? or does it only work for windows 7?

Theme is neat and all for the PS3, but for me when it's on a wallpaper that takes up the full screen, I can't even read the white menu text in the XMB menu.

Abriael, I linked your article in the Beta forums too (Reinheart thread). In your article, it says to create a subfolder "THEMES". That actually needs to be "THEME" (singular) or the PS3 won't find it. ^^

There's only one audio file for when you close windows. The rest is all default windows sounds.

It's a slideshow set to change wallpaper every 30 minutes. If you click on "desktop wallpaper" you can customize the time, and uncheck the wallpapers you don't want. If you want only one, just uncheck all the others :D

Again, thanks! I've deselected the pics to leave the one background on my PC. I don't see a way of doing this on the PS3. No matter - not like I leave the thing on (like PC) or that even when it's on, that I'll have the wallpaper showing :p

Instead of doing this you can just rename the FINAL FANTASY XIV-A Realm Reborn.themepack to FINAL FANTASY XIV-A Realm Reborn.rar and extract them with Winrar. 7zip works too. And I imagine any other program that can extract files.

Abriels worked well for me. Although instead of using it I conbined all the stuff from this theme pack(wallpapers), the older theme pack(sounds, wallpapers) and the theme I use and love for the windows menus.

Me too! The first theme released back in May (the Win8/IE10 collaboration) had two wallpapers and 7 sounds, while this one had 7 wallpapers and one sound (a sound that already came with the first theme, so it wasn't anything new). I just put the new wallpapers in the DesktopBackground folder of the old theme and combined them for super fantasticness!

Edit: Now that they've fixed the NA theme, it appears that what seemed to be only one sound was actually an unzipped soundpack. There are 11 sounds with the new theme, and some of them are redone and fit better with the ARR sound scheme.

Can you still get the old Theme with the additional sounds?

Did you miss that my instructions were for Mac users? If not, boring Mac-relevant details follow. :)

I was a little shocked that there actually is a version of "WinRAR" that runs on Macs. However it's a unix command-line executable, which isn't nearly as simple to use as drag-and-drop with no rename. I didn't try 7zip for Mac because it requires the extra step of downloading it via BitTorrent, and that's already more complicated than the one download I suggested.

The theme file is actually a Microsoft .cab file. Many Windows file extractor utilities will unarchive them, but pure .rar ones don't (like UnRarX on Mac: "not a RAR archive"). "The Unarchiver" does, and also doesn't choke on the kanji in the sound filename.

I wish SE would make a mouse Theme. I know someone back in 1.0 made one and still using it but i love for there to be a new version for FFXIV ARR

Shame I can't tweak the PS3 theme to my liking, but it's still good. :)

I thought this was only for Win 8, so I didn't bother checking it out... until now.
Pretty neat! It worked without any problem and the only thing I changed was the Window colour (from that greyish one to frost).

The sounds are pretty cool, especially the ones for Login and Shutdown ^^
