For the record, yes, I am still pretty against him making a return. End of an Era was meticulously crafted to be emotionally hard-hitting based entirely the implication that he sacrificed himself. If that was a lie, it was a cheap shot and it ruins the sentiment of the moment. Almost everything I've seen in this game says SE is better than that in FFXIV (inb4 "But, Lightning!"), so here's hoping they work around that, somehow...

It always annoyed me how "dead" is a four letter word for SE when it comes to characters. Tidus comes back, Aeris keeps on acting even though she "dies" rather spectacularly.
It just seems exploitive to the character. Let them die, make it sad. It's a good story. I mean how dumb would it be if Romeo and Juliet came back and said "We've been alive this whole time! :D" -

Louisoix and Nael van Darnus are gone. Reason why they're on the official website is because new players need an SE source (not a forum based source) to know who Louisoix and Nael van Darnus was, course 1.0 players returning also need this. Of course if SE decides to go down that road...everything is made out of aether, if someone dies and the aether returns to the flow...they could be born. But for Van Darnus he was absorbed by Bahamut, so that take that for a grain of salt but I'll say he's gone. He'll probably most definitely return in Echoes though.
As for Louisoix being Odin, for me it'd be odd if a person can turn into an Elder Primal. Their aether can be consumed by the Elder Primal/Primal but I really doubt he just upped and changed into Odin. If he had that power he could have combated the Garleans himself.
Also I still think the Daybreak blade is actually us.

People are always misinterpreting prophecies and translations, Louisoix didn't realize the Daybreak wasn't a physical sword it was us, the Adventurers who would become the Warriors of Light. Or maybe Louisoix knew it was us (after all those quests) and the Circle of Knowing (Y'shtola, Thancred, and I think Papylamo was the one in Gridania) were the ones who misinterpreted and thought it was a physical blade.Quote:

Personally, I've never thought, not even for a second, that he died. The way he vanished into the light during the End of an Era is just to much of an eyeroll for me. As far as I remember, we've seen NPCs die during quests, so SE doesn't shy from showing us death loud and clear. I have a nagging feeling that they're going to go all Gandalf on him, and I hate it. I do hope that I'm wrong.

More likely, Louisoix needed the aether-energy from all of the Echo-damned souls present to summon the one thing that could defeat Bahamut - Odin. We were banished en-masse as our lives (and even the aetheric-resonant memories of us in the mothercrystal lattice) were drained from us to fuel the awakening of the Elder Primal. Only after five years of Eorzeans praying to The Twelve, were The Twelve (from their vantage points as crystals circling around it) able to feed Hydaelyn enough aether to reconstitute us.
Zenaku, this just says the paths he roams are long-forgotten and not that he has been roaming them for a long time. This text doesn't prevent him from being summoned last week (or perhaps five years ago).Quote:

As for your points, you're technically right. The whole Monk storyline, told by the same guy who laid out all the lore about Midgardsormr and Crystal Tower, was all about how scenes of catastrophic death leave behind a ton of aether, though it's up for debate how much of it could possibly have been used to summon Odin after he funneled what had to have been a ton of it into channelingThaliakAlthyk for the time-limbo. Also, that wording is suspiciously open to Odin being new to the world.

I actually thought of this when I read the Bahamut description a while back. There was no mention of Louisoix's death. Even in-game they spoke of him as "gone", but never did they outright call him "dead". This is a rather obvious buildup to his return.
SE still has the ability to shock us with it, though. Maybe he's locked in extra-dimensional combat with Bahamut. Maybe he lost the extra-dimensional battle, allowing Bahamut to return to our world five years later. Maybe he's FUSED with Bahamut (I'm feeling a little macabre right now.) -

Let's say.. using their gadgets to trace aether disturbances to a particular place, through the Maze and as they converge upon the scene with us in tow, use their own nifty Scion powers to shields themselves and us behind them as their individual 'buddies', but unable to do anything to help Louisioux get blasted in the inevitable flare.
It would solve the mystery of what happened to Louisioux and Bahamut, but also fulfill the emotional climatic ending of his life, by giving us the 'better future' that he spoke to us of before hand. I could see SE doing that on purpose to throw players into an emotional frenzy so they go after Bahamut's head with all levels of rage.
SE is very capable of being dark, they've proven it. They sometime's like to go for the shock and awe approach in things and I can completely see Yoshida doing something this dramatic.

As much as I like the idea of this, it leaves open one massive hole: The landscape.
What was it that caused the landscape to suddenly and dramatically change? That takes more than just firey blasts. The world has "returned to its true form" if you believe the master ascian.
Something far more subtle has happened, which will not be explained by a simple time warp (or even a jump to the left). -

We don't really know how dramatic of an effect the aether can effect trees, plants, and shrubbery -- but with the Agrias' explosion in Mor Dhona and plant life seeming to go extinct in Mor Dhona within those 15 years, who knows what 5 years would do for Mor Dhona. Clearly it's back to pre-1562 6A.E. form or at least looks so in concept art and the tidbits SE has shown us.Quote:

Odin may not have been released when the Agrias exploded so he was probably sealed elsewhere entirely. While the Ceruleum explosion was powerful, Bahamut's Megaflare was even more so. Odin could awaken just as angry and ready to go as Bahamut had.

I believe that Bahamut used Mega Flare, but hearing the prayers of their people, the Twelve rise out of Eorzea in the form of Aether. Similar to the Mako streams erupting from the earth in FF7 to destroy meteor. This Aetherial flood cancels out Mega Flare and seals Bahamut away in Aether. This would explain why the Grand Company leaders survive Mega Flare despite being within the blast radius. It explains why there are suddenly large Aetherial deposits all across Eorzea that seemingly rise up from the ground reaching like talons towards Bahamut. The Aether was in a liquid, lifeblood form until it made contact with either the atmosphere or Mega Flare and that energy crystalized the Aether, in turn draining it of its power. Dead Aether being orange, like the drained teleport crystals in 1.23.
It does not, however, definitively explain what happened to Louisoix. Unless it was like an Aerith thing and Mega Flare killing Louisoix is what released the aether from the planet. Or simply Louisoix did not survive the proximity of the collision between Aether and Mega Flare. Or that he was incased in the same Aether as Bahamut. Meaning we may see him again when Bahamut breaks free of the Aether binding him. -

As for the GC Leaders being in the blast radius. I'd consider the entire Cartaneau Flats to be within the blast radius but let's not under estimate Kan-E-Senna's ability to set up a barrier with strength enough to stop a stray blast. After all she's a powerful Conjurer/White Mage. Let's not forget she also has the ability for prophecy, so she may have seen what was coming. -
