Molly's ARR Stat Guide

Since I can't share this on the beta forums for people to shoot holes in, I'll share it here. I made a general guide to ARR stats. Please feel free to let me know of any issue you might find in it. I'd like to make sure it's 100% accurate.

That was pretty good! I do hope that you will keep it updated. It would be worth re-reading on your part though, just to correct some minor grammar errors that won't have shown up on spell-check (eg "waist" instead of "waste")

Thank you for all this work, and thanks be to that guy you got so much of your information from (your listed source). I printed out both your work and his, gave the packet its own laminated binding, and keep it at my side for use in game.

OP, what about defense for tank? Most tanking gear has optimal defense, but what about slotting a piece of gear with more STR/DEX but less defense over a piece of gear with less STR/DEX but more defense?

Hopefully things don't change too much in phase 4 and release so we can start committing all of this knowledge to memory again.

DEX adds block/parry rate, STR adds damage mitigation from blocking and parrying. VIT is only HP, so without the other two it won't help all that much. As long as you equip HQ high iLevel items made for a tank, you should get plenty of VIT. In a lot of cases, the BiS item will have VIT as a main stat already.

But again, you can break some of those rules. You could, for example, use Rubelite rings and stack VIT on them. I'm gonna stack DEX on mine, personally, but I could see going the VIT route. Sometimes the highest iLevel item for the slot has VIT rather than STR, or DEX, in which case I'd add STR first then DET. Given the way melding works, I'm gonna go for quad melds in every slot that I'm using melded gear.

I'm curious about Attack Power/Attack Magic Potency vs Determination. Has anybody tested the relative rate of returns for those?

Determination has about a quarter of the effect of Attack Power (ie STR) at level 50.

Haven't quite worked out the numerical impact of Defense yet. It's tied into your level, so at lv50, the same defense score will mitigate less damage than it does at lv45 against an identical enemy. It's also seemingly non-linear in its reduction (in fact a graph of test results comes out as a waveform...).

It's a great guide. ARR should have a lot of people new-ish and completely new to MMOs. Explanations as accessible as this are very helpful for those when they're ready to peel back the first layer and become better players.

Be sure to re-check your initial findings in phase 4. (This advice probably applies to anyone trying to work out such things, but you mentioned something that I think they're still working on.)

Seriously... AMAZING!!!!!!!! I've been so confused about arc/brd stats and what the hell to do... this information of course means I will need to re-spec my gear, but thats how the world works. You're so awesome you just made my liffe so much easier!

Hell yeah. I've watched the considerable changes to formulae and stats (amongst everything else) from Alpha to Phase One/Two and then again to Phase Three; I've no doubt that Phase Four will be different again, though hopefully that'll stay somewhat the same through release...

No worries guys. I plan to keep my guides updated so that if something changes with the damage formulas. People can still refer to them to get the most current info.

Oh, sorry. I was thinking that to add attack power materia would be better that determination materia then but I only now realized there is no attack power materia after reading Molly's guide. I didn't realize there was materia for some of the derived stats but not others... That's what I get for making assumptions.

Here's the next potentially stupid question then. Do we know what base stat each derived stat is derived from? It's not immediately obvious to me from reading the guide which base stats determines for example skill speed or even accuracy and determination even if I could make an educated guess on those.

Really I'm just calling them derived stats for lack of a better term. Mostly because I'm used to that from 1.0. Really derived stats would be like Attack Power, Parry (since Parry comes from DEX), HP (since HP is from VIT), etc. For most of the actual derived stats, we don't have specific materia we can use any more.

You have done a lot of great work Molly, but as a tank there is something glaring that stands out to me. You mentioned that the dexterity stat increases the rate at which we block and parry. Where did you get that from? I looked at the Doctor Mog source you mentioned and he definitely did science out some pretty good information about the damage mechanics, but he made no mention of dexterity and its presumed effect on block & parry rates. When I played phase 3 and got to the point where i needed to start allocating my first set of stat points, one of those little tutorial help boxes came up and described dexterity as impacting how much damage ranged attacks do but said nothing of block & parry rates.

Don't get me wrong, I am not arguing that dexterity does *not* affect block & parry rates (most likely, it does simply because it works that way in many other games and just makes a lot of sense). However, I need to know for sure. I would feel really stupid if I invested heavily in dex materia for my gear only to learn later that this stat is worthless for gladiators and marauders. Despite the likelihood that this is true, I need confirmation. Can anyone definitively say that it does or is it something that people are just saying but don't really know?

Real tests will be needed of course, but the beta manual says for DEX: "Increases ranged attack power and the chance of blocking or parrying an attack."

A few things in the manual have changed since phase 2, so you might want to check it out.

I find it worth mentioning the in combat mana regeneration is a is based off max mana.

I haven't tested too intensely, but mana is roughly 1.7% of your max mana a tick. This translates in to 60-ish mana to get one more mana a tick. This isn't a big deal, but it can help conjurer who doesn't get a mana regen skill until high levels.

I would of tested it more, but I frankly haven't accumulated enough piety gear.
