It's not really different than what we have. Same copy/pasted player animation, just a different effect.
All of the Weaponskills except a certain number of rare ones are the already generated player animations rechained in a different order and then a big flashy screen effect to hide and make it look awesome.
Those spell animations look REALLY good. OH god why can't we have this? I love the Chant du Cygne *.*
Even though they may have so of the same animations etc.. they still look way flashier than the crap we have in XIV. There is no reason why we can't have ws animations that make XI's look like trash especially with the graphics this game has

They could afford to be flashy cuz of the turn based battle system. It would be cool to see an MMO like that. Just like FFXII battle ;P FFXII looks more like an MMO than FFXIV XD
Anyway, I don't complain about the model animations, but the spell effects. And I don't know if a simple resize will do the trick lol Previous spell animations had an intricate animation. You look at them and you notice the planning behind them :D FFXIV are just (pardon my word) lackluster XD
How did I guess that you did not post the original level 1-50 battle effects but the high level ones from the last year? The effects that should be amazing considering they are tailored for the higher levels when effects need to be more shiny, and the team that made them had 8 years of experience in working with the engine.
Post the original 1-50 effects and we'll see whether they are so "spectacular". Few were, but that applies here too.
I just don't like tiered weapon skills. In FFXI, every weaponskill kinda had a "twofold" or "threefold" or some sort of multiple-attack to it. Some just had one attack but did multiplied damage. Most of these were based directly on your attributes, such as STR, DEX, etc.,
The weaponskills in this game don't feel the same. I'm either using brutal swing or trunksplitter all the time. Maybe brandish when I need to AoE. Where's my raging rush or steel cyclone?

Because in this game, you do not start as the Master of the Universe slaying Gods from the get-go. You grow as a character and progress to those kind of encounters. I think it is an important aspect for an MMO but hard to get right.Quote:

Granted, the current effects are going to get more impressive with this change and probably in the future as well. They just don't need to be completely overdone, or they won't have anything better to give us later on without going nuts with the animations. The game's gotta retain it's classiness.
I do not think the trailer(intro FMV?) animations and effects were that good either...
The BR effects should be better from the start, though. The principle should be that they have to be generally more impressive than anything you can do at that rank alone.
Eh, I don't know, if there is nothing similar then axe users got shafted I guess.
Then again, some classes like Archers and Gladiators got pretty cool looking skills this time, unlike in XI where there's nothing particularly impressive before Sidewinder or Vorpal blade... It all evens out in the end, for the most part.
Wheres ShoulderTackle and Combo, i mean come ooon those were low rank skills and look cooler than all of my pug skills(aside from my rank 50), besides i still use my Concussive Blow even at rank 44 thanks to the fact that we get a Concussive Blow II and it has a side effect to it, im not saying i need to Omnislash at the start of the game, but give us a little more variety Concussive blow looks fine but then theres Aura Pulse, Follow Through, Haymaker, Jarring Strike, and the terrible Pounce.
And lets not even go into GLA someone needs to make a video of all the GLA skills while the song "Spin me round" is in the background.
down side to flashy gaudy over compensating weapon skills?
LAG ffxiv was set up to be have 15 member groups if we had gaudy ws we would lag up pretty bad. I like the ones in ffxiv. I'm not big on flashy skills that look awesome but the damge being poor.
Do becareful what you ask for. If we end up with a laggy game ima be peeved. I had to keep turning off my effects while doing aby just because of the lag of 18 ppl spaming ws and casting spells.
PS and sorry to be mean, but we already got a few topics pointing out ffxi ws are "better" then ffxiv. You guys gotta stop being stuck in ffxi. Its kinda annoying at this point.
It's hard to not be "stuck" in FFXI when XIV should have been an evolution of it, not de-evolution.

15 Members? From the last letter released by the producer, it looks as if developers are gearing FF14 to be even more 'solo' than it is already now. Aren't they actually reducing the number of total party sizes for group quests in the future? With smaller party sizes, I think they can bump up the flash. I think?

I would love skills with the variety that these have, not necessarily the same flashes/symbols. I think that is what a lot of people would like. They do not want to see 5 moves with vertical flashes with variations of light effects. We want different body postures, different attack patterns, it makes us enjoy a battle more. If they can implement things that go along these lines I am sure a majority of people would be happy. Does not have to be "Flashier" just changes in character movement/attack pattern would be sufficient.
As for that link again, your making me remember over 5 years ago. Good times. :D(not that FFXIV is not)
