Is there a comprehensive listing of the units of measurement used in Eorzea? In particular, what are the units for measuring volume? I am aware of the following.
Length (from shortest to longest): ilm, fulm, yalm, malm
Mass (from least to most): onze, ponze, tonze
I can't recall finding a reference to liquid volume or any recipe measurements more descriptive than a 'pinch'. On the other hand, I barely got into crafting, so there's a good chance I missed some terms.
(I posted a similar topic prior to the Lore board's introduction, though the question I was most interested in was never answered.)

I can't think of any separate unit ever mentioned, but that's just going by my memory. Some of the guys who save all the game dialogue to file might have more to say about it though.
At the very least, even without other words for it, they could use cubic ilms for volume, or square malms for area, etc. I know you're looking for equivalents to cups, pints, quarts, gallons, acres, furlongs, etc. but like I said, I don't think I've seen anything like that. -

We went over the ones you know long ago, but it's worth putting them in the lore forum. We'll start with that. Known volumes are hard to guess at and don't seem to have been mentioned much (if at all)
1 Ilm (Im) = 2.54 cm
1 Fulm (Fm) = 12 Ilm = 30.48 cm
1 Yalm (Ym) = 3 Fulm = 0.9144 meters
1 Malm (Mm) = 1,760 Yalm = 1,609 meters
1 Onze (Oz) = 28.35 grams
1 Ponze (Pz) = 16 Onzs = 453.6 grams
1 Tonze (Tz) = 2,000 Ponzs = 907.2 grams
Rule of thumb is to just use the USA's system. Why? Because to almost any other country, it will fit right in with a fantasy atmosphere. It'll be completely foreign to them. Why? Because the US is one of only three countries (others being Liberia and Myanmar) that have not converted to the metric system.

My concern about the onze as volume isn't that I believe it couldn't be done that way, it very well could. I just think the in-game evidence is tenuous at best right now. After all, they apparently didn't even alter pints to a new term. So make that question mark really really big. -

I think it would depend on the context in which onze is being used. Fluid ounce is a measure of volume. A plain old ounce is a measure of weight. Letters sent through the post office in the US are measured in ounces. Something like Robitussin is measured in fluid ounces.
Edit: Also after reading a bit on a wiki page about fluid ounces (just to make sure I wasn't giving an inaccurate statement about fl. oz being a volumetric measurement) pint is also something used in both the metric (imperial) and US measurement systems.

Oven temperatures and weather temps, too. Most recently was a law change forbidding butchers from selling things in lbs, caused a pretty big outcry, but it happened. The miles & miles per hour are the last on the list, apparently. EU countries (er, those that switched to Euros :)) are all metric.Quote:
