So, earlier Reinheart translated this:
I was wondering what exactly this meant. Would we be allowed to color different areas of the hair and skin? If so, I would like that very much. What do y'all think?

It's probably your highlight, which is what you had in 1.0 as well.
Oh yeah in English it's known highlights... forgot about that... sorry.
I looked up on google 'hair mesh' and showed the same hair highlights and stuff so I just kept it that way in my translation.
I dunno about two colored skin but I can agree if you can change color of your tatoos and stuff.
Or if you can go into specific details like nail color.
No Shego and Dr. Drakken? :(
my characters hair doesn't blend with the highlights like it did in 1.0, so im rather disappointed.
Well, 255 255 254 and 255 255 253 are separate colors.. lol
I am in agreement though that crazy ass hair colors would be annoying - I hope Yoshida isnt falling to that kind of style..
(Mostly it was the neon colors that bothered me, like in 1.0 people had pink hair but I guess it wasn't so bad at least on my screen).
Mesh just refers to a polygonal mesh.

Think of it perhaps like a colour slider or selection menu similar to something like the sims that just edits the previously "white" texture that was created as a base for the colour:

EDIT I forgot to mention packet-size as well. This is a great addition! They are constantly worrying about packet size so to be getting this much freedom is fantastic.
Packets being "Your PC > Server > Other players" and "Other players > Server> Your PC"
Alpha was missing some lighting, those should be in Beta so that should fix it up a bit imo.
I remember YoshiP or the reps mentioning it, or maybe was in the interviews I read... The character models was still missing something in Alpha for sure.
Everything. .
:D
Lol kidding I meant that the neon colors are the most annoying to me - I get its an Asian / Japanese (anime?) thing for all the hair colors (since normally alll you could get is black) so I try not to cry too much but if someones hair looks like it was dipped in radioctive goop (so bright it looks like its glowing) then I'll be like.. Orz SE Orz
(Double standard here, the radiant gray and white dont bother me :P - just stuff like this where my eyes are hurting)
In 1.0 I didnt see anyone that had a hair color that bothered me, so - just hoping that one of these new colors isnt a blinding "glowing/neon" green or something.
WoW actually had some annoying hair colors but imo the whole color scheme was annoying to me, I never got fully into that game because of its graphic choices (which I know some people love, to each their own :) )
Please let that be sarcasm, which it probably is...if not;
Anything can be modified at any time, you could revise the games engine and or its various components if you wanted even after release, Alpha/Beta/Release gaps are the perfect time to re-do:
Cue FFXIV developer video for Alpha/Beta for the original release:

If i've replied to the wrong person 'sorry' might not have read the flow of posts right.
Oh lol on you. You think the looks of alpha was the limit their graphic engine could reach? Did you for example see Ul'dah pic from last letter? which uses extra shaders, and filters etc? Just cause they don't use HDR lighting in alpha, doesn't mean the engine doesn't have the function. It probably has that function, though they aren't using it in-game.
Yoshi said himself that he asked the graphics guys to fix the graphics for alpha, cause it wasn't high enough standard. Alpha is just bare minimum, but Yoshi demanded more than that; otherwise it would have looked worse. They can easily add skin shaders, etc afterwards. Did you for example compare lowest settings in 1.0, to highest settings? it's absurd difference. Alpha probably didnt have highest settings available even, so the difference between alpha, and released version can be immense.
Ya, just look at the lighting differences in previous post-link, and tell me nothing CAN'T change :)
^^; the (lol) at the end was supposed to symbolize the sarcasm. Sorry for being unclear! I was just trying to show how silly Valmonte's post about the graphics was.
