Is there any way to create new characters without actually doing it...?

Since Yoshida said there will be a converter from our 1.0 characters I was wondering if there is anyway to create a characters without the option being currently active? Meaning just creating the appearance of the character not actually starting a new game with it...

Unless they give us a 'character creator' to play with. No.

So I would essentially have to delete my active character option and create a new character then...? ^^"

Where exactly you want to do this tho? the obsolete 1.0 ? or once ARR starts?

On 1.0... Since only are 1.0 data saved could be converted for the ARR character creator that will be released...

Create new character designs and save them so I can import them on the ARR character creator... I'm taking it that I'll have to delete my active character it seems...

Nothigns stopping you from creating a new character that looks like your old one. Why would you have to delete your old character to do that? At the same time, why would you want to do this when you can just use your old character?

Unless you aren't a legacy memeber and only plan to get the one-character-per-server subscription, you dont have to delete anything to make a new character on any given server.

It isn't a matter of making it when ARR comes out... I want to make my character now... since any progress I do on my current character won't change it won't really matter if I delete it now and create a character... Although I say this I probably won't just delete my character just for the sake of creating new character designs to import... I guess I'll just wait till the ARR bench mark...

There is going to be a character creator. Also the first phases of the beta your imported data will not be avialable, so create away!

You're not making it very clear what exactly you want though. Are you not intending to play your original character? Are you just wanting to play a new one during the beta (in which case, you will be so I"m not sure what you're talking about?)? Or something else? I don't know. All I can tell you is you don't have to use your current data in the beta if you don't want to (though progress in the final phase will carry over to release, so you'll want to use your "real" character then)

Edit: Oh, do you mean in the current version of the game before it shuts down in 2 days?

In this case, yes, the only way would be for you to delete your character in-game and make a new one. I'm not sure why you'd want to bother with this though, because there will be more character creation options in 2.0, so you'd be missing out on potential customizations.

I don't think you can create a new character even if you deleted your active one.

There is a tool coming out within the next couple of months that will allow you to create characters for ARR before the game is released. Hold on until then.

Id you are talking about re-making the look if your existing 1.0 char when ARR becomes official, I think the answer is yes, you will be allowed to remake the race/sex/look of your existing 1.0 char once it is ported over to ARR.

Renaming your char, is something YP is still looking into.

You can't create new "mules" in 1.0 , you can delete your old char and use that spot to create a new char but that char won't be the one ported ,the chars created on the benchmark will be portable

As stated by others, when the benchmark is made available this should become possible.

I didn't realize character appearance was saved locally- which would have been the initial concern- so if you did delete your current character for a slot to make a new one that data should be saved locally and you could import it into the benchmark when it is released.

Why can't you load the current character data's? Current character data is saved locally and doesn't require any communication feature. I have no problem with the gear with the default gear. It is stated you can redo the character make in ARR but I would like enough time to play around before launch.

Yep this is why I ask this question... I wanted to create a new character so I could save the design locally... But reviewing all of your comments I'll just wait till the benchmark gets released...

you could do so, your current character is already saved in their database, so is possible to just delete your character now, but to make sure nothing happens.... back up your local FFXIV folder within your "My Document/My Games/Final Fantasy XIV" folder before attempting to do so :)

Why would you even create a char now in 1.0? We are getting more customization options for 2.0 so I don't see the point.

Just a thought, and I've been itching to create a new character design and starting over so it seemed like a good opportunity... but since 1.0 is almost over I really would only have time to design my character and since we are getting the benchmark soon anyway, I might as well just wait...

I think the first benchmark is just that, a simple benchmark. We're supposed to get a second benchmark that is more of a character creator. I'd bet that we will be able to import chars from that.

I do wonder though how this tool is going to work though. Sure it can let you create characters for ARR before it comes out.

but, you are still going to run into the problem of all our existing characters having their looks already set. Will you be able to import your character designs for your existing characters that are "already" at lvl 50?

Or will the character creator ONLY be able to allow you to create NEW character designs? Now I understand that this character creator will not be able to change your race/sex, but only change your look.

Secondly, if all your available character slots are full, how are you supposed to mess around with new characters when you won't have a slot empty to create a new one?! You after all only get 1 character to play with unless you pay for additional character slots.

Or will it be like you create a character design template that you can import in the character creation process to make your character look like what you designed in the character creator benchmark?

I think because 1.0 is no longer running, even if you do delete your current character, you will not be provided the option to create a new one. The option to create a new character is not available.

We just have to be patient :)

For myself, I could spend days on character creation, I had so much fun creating my Lalafell :D

It is still possible to create a new character even during these last few hours.

I just created one out of curiosity. ^^;

In ARR you have many free char slots with no extra fee.
