Somebody mentioned that at the launch of ARR exisiting members will still be on the same server as we left. Is this correct, and if it is why aren't they setting it up for us to chose a regional server at the start?

To the best of my knowledge, you will be on the same server your character is currently on by default, regardless if the server physically moves to another region. SE is also allowing you a one-time server transfer in the event you want to move, with the exception of moving to servers designated for new players.

I might have missed that JP rep or interview (though unlikely since I've been following these pretty closely) but they really should have an announcement on what's going to happen to existing players VS regional servers. -

Even if, seeing as they never mentioned that the existing characters will be somehow transferred by them and that you can end up in a server not in your region I would say it's still pretty safe to assume we will get a chance to choose. I don't see a reason to worry about that too much. -

yes, they have stated a few times on clarification. you will be allowed a 1 time server transfer if you want to go to a regional server, but you will NOT be allowed to move to a sever designated to new players unless you create a new character. also, after that one time move it will be quite a while before they consider adding the server transfer option so you will be stuck wherever you move.
i only remember it because i was under the same opinion, but went to show my entire shell when i seen the post. -

are ps3 players able to come to our servers or are they all forced to a new server? i'll hate the idea that i'm not playing with every country and ps3 players like in ffxi. if they are all on same server, i can bet playing either a pc or ps3 rich server you will see a big difference in how they play or run events.

Okay, thanks for the info but this preliminary decision they are making about existing players being on the same server(supposedly Japan) at launch and not being able to move for awhile is going to cause some issues in my opinion. Okay we start playing, make a free company, getting people joined, our friends, etc. and then down the road we get this option of moving.... Which I assume everybody will do to go to their regional server (eu or na) and thus splitting everybody up...
Why not give us the choice at the start so we can go where we want get settled in and not have to worry about it later... -

it was clarified that you will stay on your server on arr relaunch, but you will be able to move to the regional servers like the server merge was handled. if there's room on the regional server you wish to move to you can move to that regional server one time only. the only restriction is you cannot move your old character to a server that is a new player only regional server.
