The End.
1/2 could potentially be the downfall.
Market Wards isn't that one.
Go away then.
You haven't even seen how it works yet.
Right... because wiping all of the data of current players would have made them really want to come back for 2.0...
Market wards will suck unless they are completly redone, but they are not game breaking.
In my eye 4 things are threatening to kill off 2.0.
1) Regional Servers if the population in all regions is not large enough to support a game where it only functions 8 hrs a day. IF there is only 1000ppl online a day... the server economy will crash and the game will more or less die out quickly even if it is strong in other areas... see Aion.
2) Population boom and drop. It will happen. SE needs to immediately server merge once the new game noobs leave. (too many mmos wait too long to merge servers.)
3) Lack of Endgame
4) Extreme casualness. What is killing WoW off. Listening to the playerbase is good caving into them is the worst thing ever. The customer very seldom is 100% right, honestly I will go as far as saying the customer is never right. Company need to listen but not blatantly do what the masses demand or you get clones and dull/insta-win/no innovation content.
Hey guys who's your favorite DBZ villain?
Mines would be Ginyu Force.

wrong, downfall is because of the grass, THE GRASS!
All I'm saying is, there's a big deal being made about balance and restructuring. If they've practically made a whole new game, what's better to balance than starting everyone from the start. Also, everytime you start a new game, do you not begin with the bare minimum? As for past players (including myself), we've all played to this point and had fun. If you're gonna whine because all your stuff is gone, then get over it, people lose data in some form or another everyday. I'm also not saying the game will fail, I'm clearly stating we'll just see this come full circle again :)
I'm failing to see your premises that support the conclusion that failing to wipe data would result in a "downfall." I'm going to challenge you to list them off in a rough syllogism.
P1: yadayadayayada...
P2: yadayadayadayida...
And so on. Because I'm not seeing anything that flows into the conclusion. In fact, the only thing I'm seeing is a couple of informal fallacies...
Eh to be fair, given FFXIV's current state, wiping the 20 people who play the game vs pulling in 720 people in their place..I think SE will go with the latter as it's clear they're doing everything to attract new players not necessarily appease the current small playerbase.
Regardless though, the only downfall to ARR is trying not to stand out and just simply fit in.
They should have closed the servers early and work on 2.0 full time instead of splitting themselves on 2 games... also people are pretty burned out on the current content which will still be there on in 2.0 >.>
I really hope they have new content day 1 and none of that TBA in 6months~ BS
EvEFFXIV Is Dying!
Lol if my character was wiped I would never touch this game again.
Downfall will be because of the lack of actual content to do at launch.
Pretty areas: Check
Battle system: Check
Crafting: Check
Gathering: Check
New UI: Check
Raids: is 3 enough...? I guess so Check!
PvP: Unfinished
Some areas: Unfinished
Chocobo battle system: Unfinished
Missions: Unfinished.
They arent gonna release content and stuff when there still have alot of bugs to fix. Servers will be bad again at launch but week or two down the road it will improve and maybe month after we will see content come at steady pace hopefully.
if you're gonna whine because other people have more stuff than you, then get over it
(you'll have to)
based on what, exactly? primal weapons: still in 2.0. GC weapons: still in 2.0. darklight: still in 2.0. relic weapons: still in 2.0. levels: progress saved in 2.0. gear/money: saved in 2.0. etc etc.
doesn't take much brain power to understand they're trying to both appease returning players and attract new ones. but as usual your posts completely miss the mark.
New players get their own servers. What the f#%$ is the difference?
All the work I've been doing to finish a relic before 2.0 in the short few months of my return, only to see them wipe all character progress? That'd be pointless and stupid to do.
If they do wipe everyone clean, many would quit.
Also: Why not... just make a new character? Anyone can have up to 8 characters per server now, and legacy people like, 8 servers >_>
Op you made a mistake when you said character data will kill 2.0 because it wont because new players get their own server which cannot be transfered onto for a few months.
But you are completely right when you say MARKET WARDS WILL KILL 2.0 or at least scare most of the new players away. Theres no denying that its a proven fact of 1.0 where the biggest reason people quit was because the market wards.
I'm wondering how they plan to support quest to lvl up for every class there is? Its either shitty repetitive quests or a total waste of time which could have been used better
To be honest wiping character data would probably be the best thing to do. Since they working from the ground up with this game. Most people will not experince the early game content, and go straight to end game. Depending on how the loot system works people will get loot and leave because do oyu need to do more? They have to have a lot of end game ready because 99% of the pop is there but they also have to have all the aerly game its a lot of content, that most MMO's cannot do at there launch. I dobut this game will be an exception.
Heck why don't we just make everyone buy the game again? XD
I know if SE wiped my character data I would not be coming back.
2/10 Waiting for beta to determine if things still suck
For the record, I'm not saying they WILL wipe date, because I know they aren't going to, I'm just saying that it defeats the purpose of "starting anew" and I could care less if people have more than me, because, there will always be someone better in every MMO you play. Also the market wards are a far cry from the effectiveness of an auction house. This thread is more directed towards "Balancing". So don't get all bent out of shape, 'tis only a statement.
Yea doing random questevents with dozens of people without communicating with anyone else. MMOs should encourage people to do things together - i don't want a Massively Multiplayer Online Single Player Role Play Game.
Oh,i just found a proper description for the MMOs past wow-release - MMOSPRPG
simple fix just delete your character and make a new one.
if SE wiped 2 years worth of work that would of been the down fall.
I hate it when troll topics work.... -_-
