Double Melding for A Relic Reborn quest

i am more putting this up in frustration and aggravation and hoping that maybe ill get some tips but for the last month or so i have been devoting my time to trying to farm gil and buy items to attempt a duel meld on an obelisk for my Gae Bolg and i have spent a total of 55mil and failed 6 times to duel meld is there any trick or is this just plain old blind stupid luck with the intent not to be actual game content but a time/money sink in what is already a choppy game to start i just hope that the directors words that in 2.0 the relic quest is going to be completely different and require more time/effort then dumb luck and gil the phrase "Relics aren't for everybody" should never be spoken to anyone who plays the game they should require effort and a sizable amount of time i would be willing to spend 6 months working on this if i new half the quests involved wouldn't be all about denial

It's luck. The only thing you can do to help your odds is...

1. Try to use the lowest value materia. Your double meld odds will be better if they're both the lowest instead of higher.

2. Melding onto an HQ obelisk will increase your odds by 5%.

...but having spent as much money as you have on that, you probably know those two things. I'm not getting 55Mil out of 6 failed attempts though, so I'm not sure how you managed to spend that much.

since the whole atomos exploit with seals and dawn drops being sold to vendors for pretty high amounts the prices on my server have sky rocketed so each savage might VI is 2.5mil+ need 2 for each 5mil there the obelisk are about 2-3mil then 20k for the matter to meld the materia so times that by 6 and its roughly 48mil give or take prices going up and down i just think that its not in the best interest of the games content to leave something like this in it

if X2 meld is gone in 2.0 you know how many players going to bitch that got there relic done? ya no thank this is a good money sink and time sink.

Your biggest mistake was attempting to meld your own instead of flatout buying one already melded :(

It's not really a money sink though considering the money is circulated instead of just disappearing.

Well all i know is if SE don't pull there head out there arse and stop putting things like this in game its going to fail on 2.0 time have changed games are all about the casual player now RNG and luck should never effect quest progression

The chance of success is just too low to go for it and hope for the best if you don't have the gil to expend. I had to blow through 12+ attempts (50 mil) trying to double meld an Astrolabe before I realized I had to stop. 18%~ has just too much risk.

Sorry but it's called a Relic it should never be easy it should be something hard to get for hardcore players that why there so many good weps that casual can get. If it was called AF weps then i understand but there not i know that mmo are about being casual but sadly there a lot of hardcore players playing ffxiv from FFXI and they also have to make sure they happy.

I would like them to change the meld into a crafting recipe. Weapon + 2 needed materia = untradeable finish for the quest.

Relic , imho as it stands now is no where near the same difficulty and dedication as it was in XI. The stats are not game breaking by any means either (Like the gjallarhorn was, etc) Legendary however...I hope will be :) I don't really like what SE did with relic in this game...at all. It is not even that special looking.

Question about "A Relic Reborn" quest: How do you flag the quest? Do you need to be a 50 crafter, do you need to participate in Hamlet?

Go to hamlet and get 3 beastmen seals to drop from each one. Grab a copy of "on the properties of beastmen" from your grand company shop. Take these and go talk to Rowena on the Ul'dah strip. She'll tell you what to do next.

True but all the relic would have a upgrade when they make new level caps. The idea yoshi-p had was that one day the Curtana would become a powerful Excalibur. With that idea in mind you can see how the base relic now are not game breaking or even special looking when you think of them just as a base. That also make players want to go for the base relic with the idea on there back on there mind that they did not waste time and money getting it when later you still have to do it if you want to get that badass Excalibur.

Every level cap raise he said they be new upgrade to relics so that a good idea and reason to get the relic now if you really want that bad ass relic later. If you want samurai relic then ya i guess you would wait but you still work on one of the base relic for the jobs now too then.

I'm with Babydoll on this one. The relic quest in FF14 is pretty crappy compared to FF11. It's way more luck based than it needs to be. While it was time consuming to get a relic in FF11, at least the main randomness factor was how much currency you'd get per Dynamis. I know most of the time if one person fronted the money to go they were entitled to all currency that dropped, so you'd feel like some real progress was being made.

I dunno, maybe it's 6 of one, half of a dozen of another, but I guess it just sounds much more forbidding when the item you need to progress is a fortune to buy or a total crapshoot to craft. (maybe the gil re-denomination will make this mentally not sound like much?) And don't get me started on the hamlet drops.
